Thirty five
Yes, the garden in Alpha Anton’s pack was actually bigger than the one in her father’s pack, but Kyra did not end up enjoying her time there like she first thought she would.
After seeing that lady who Cynthia said was Alpha Anton’s best friend, she kept zoning out and her mind kept going back to the lady.
Because of this, her time in the garden was ruined, and she could not enjoy the scent of the flowers nor the beauty of it all. She decided to dismiss Cynthia and return to her room, but she kept having this ominous feeling, she could relax or sit still. Lying down and trying to sleep was a problem too, and she was unable to understand the cause of it.
Kyra released a sigh for three umpteenth time as she moved away from the door walking haphazardly through the room. Her chest felt so tight, and she was filled with the fear that something bad was going to happen. What it was, she did not know.
“Miss?” A masculine voice called with the soft rap of a knock to accompany it.
Kyra paused before she turned back and moved to the door. On opening, it. She saw a guard in an all-blue attire looking straight at her.
“What may I do for you?” She asked with a small frown. Why was a guard at her door?
The guard looked into her room through the small space since Kyra was blocking his entrance in, and then, back at Kyra. His face was a mask of indifference, and it made Kyra anxious a bit. “Alpha Anton requests your presence in the dining room. He says it’s urgent. Please come,” he said easily.
Kyra sighed. The decision to accept or reject was not in her hand. Knowing Anton’s character, he might just march straight to her room to drag her out. She was hungry anyway, so eating won’t hurt. It would have been better if she hid in her room all day and ate here but…
“I will be there,” she managed between her numerous thoughts.
The guard bowed and stepped aside. Kyra looked back into her room, and tapped her gown absently, before she looked straight on.
Her heart felt like it was about to explode from her chest, and she doubted that it was actually a nice thing. How could one man's proposition make her this scared? That didn’t seem right at all, but it was the situation right now.
With a sigh, she turned back, noting that the guard had not left his spot. She walked forward, raising her chin up as she navigated through the corridors, down the stairs, to the dining area.
Kyra paused at the door when her eyes came to rest on the same woman she had seen earlier in the morning while she was going to the garden. The lady with fiery red hair was sitting on Anton's right hand, on the seat reserved for the Luna. The same one Anton forced her to sit in a few days ago. Kyra did not know how to feel.
“Ah, I didn’t imagine that you were going to come without a fight,” Alpha Anton exclaimed with a smile. He was seated at the head of the table.
Since when was there an alternative that she could decline to dine when he gives orders? He always forced his wishes on her most times. The man must be trying to look good in front of his friend. A bitter feeling arose in her heart.
“Oh, why wouldn’t she? Everyone needs a good meal once in a while.” The lady said with a small tinkling laugh.
Kyra bowed slightly at both, unsure what she would say in such situations. She always had to remember that she was not their equal anymore. Hence, she could not indulge in such conversations.
“Ok, I think we are bothering the Miss. Can you introduce her to me, Anton?” The lady asked as she and Anton rose from their respective seats.
Alpha Anton laughed heartily as he stepped away from the table, moving over to where Kyra was standing. Kyra was a bit shocked because she had never really seen him laugh so fully before. It felt like something that was out of the ordinary, and was the most beautiful thing ever. He has only ever smirked at her.
His hands softly made their way to Kyra’s back. It felt warm, but at the same time, it was awkward since he was doing it in front of his friend. When she looked up at him, she noted that he had a soft expression as he stared down at her.
“Relax,” he said, simply because of how stiff she was.
And, then, he led her to the table. “Ok, this is Kyra Elliot, but she is not using her last name anymore considering the circumstances around her transfer to my pack,” he easily explained.
Kyra flushed scarlet at his words. It sounded so humiliating, though something told her that he had not meant for it to be. But, the thought of the slave transfer was burning her soul right then, and it took all she had not to cry in pain.
“And, this is my childhood friend, Tanya Tucker. We’ve been friends for so long that I now consider her my family. She’s been away but she just returned. I hope she will stay for a while.”
Tanya laughed as she elegantly folded her beautiful hands in front of her. “Stop it Anton. You know how much I love traveling but because you asked, I’ll stay for a long time before leaving again. Or not,” she said easily.
Kyra watched their exchange, a bitter taste rising at the back of her throat.
She managed to give a tight smile of her own as she tried to walk to a chair. She couldn’t believe that Alpha Anton followed her, his hands still on the small of her back. He helped her to draw out the chair, his breath so close to her that for a moment, Kyra imagined that he was going to kiss her. It was the most treacherous thought and she quickly squashed it.
“Oh, look at them!” Tanya chuckled as she dropped on to her seat.
Alpha Anton moved away quickly, causing Kyra to look down on her empty plate with a red face. It was almost as if they'd been caught doing something bad. This was even much worse than she had thought it would be. There was no way she would be able to look this woman in the eye now, or enjoy her meal.
“She is shy, Anton,” Tanya squealed.
“Stop teasing her already,” Alpha Anton scolded as dropped onto his seat at the head of the table so that Tanya was to his right and Kyra to his left.
Tanya whistled in response. "I’m not trying to do that.” Then she looked at Kyra and asked in a gossipy tone, “Are the rumors true?”
“What rumors?” Kyra asked as she raised her head up. Her curiosity was piqued.
She watched as Tanya winked at her. "The fact that Alpha Anton nearly killed Roselyn at a birthday party because she slapped you.”
