Morgan's Pain

Morgan's Point of View:

I looked out of the carriage for the fifth time in a row, and as much as I didn't want to admit it, I was hurting badly inside. My heart felt broken, and I felt a deep pain I had never felt before.

Although, I acted like I was fine. I even laughed with George, teasing him for bringing a lady. Deep inside, I was hurting. George has always been my true love, he was the only person that cared for me even when my family abandoned me. We both grew up together, under the same roof. And over time, my feelings for him had overgrown that of a brother. I loved him more than a brother would love his siblings, but I was scared of admitting if, because I didn't want to lose him

We both had watched Brunelle bloom into the young lady she is now. And as I cried my heart out in the carriage, I couldn't help but think about Brunelle's words.

Flashback:

Brunelle was trimming her flowers when Morgan entered, his hands were at his back, and he meticulously studied the flowers.

“You are getting better day by day, little sister,” Morgan had said with a broad smile on his face, and he nodded his head in support. His eyes linger on the white roses.

Brunelle had noticed him enter, but kept quiet. She didn't reply to him, instead, she picked up an empty watering can, filled it with fresh water, and sprayed the water on the sparkling flowers.

After doing this to almost all the flowers in the garden, she sighed softly, and turned to face Morgan.

“Morgan, it hurts me to say this, but I think it's time for you to let go, please,” she mumbled just enough for her foster brother to hear.

Morgan was surprised at her words, and he arched his brows, feigning ignorance. “I don't get you, little sister. What are you talking about? Let go of what?” he asked.

Brunelle gently dropped the watering can on the floor, and placed a hand on Morgan's shoulder as if comforting him. “She is the one George has been waiting for. She is the promised mate,” she whispered softly. “I have always known that brother George wouldn't reciprocate your feelings. He doesn't see you that way, and what happened today is proof of my suspicion. George loves you Morgan, but it's pure platonic. He has no romantic feelings for you, and he might never have. So please let go of him. I'm sure you will find someone else, who would love your body and soul,” she had advised with a grimace.

Morgan's eyes widened in shock, and his jaw dropped. It wasn't the words itself that shocked him, it was the fact that Brunelle knew he had feelings for George. He thought he had hidden it well, and the fear of George finding out weakened him. “I– I don't know what you are talking about…. I really have no idea,” he stuttered, trying to act oblivious, but it was easy for Brunelle to know he was lying.

“Look, I am not condemning you for falling in love with George. It's none of my business, and I have no problem with whom you decide to love,” she explained with a smile. “I am telling you this because I care about you, Morgan. If you don't let go of brother George, you will get hurt anytime you see him with that lady. I don't want that to happen, I know how much your friendship means to George. Losing you would break him, but he can't afford to lose her either. Please, don't make him have to choose,” Brunelle murmured under her breath, and tried to touch Morgan's cheeks, probably to comfort him, but Morgan hit her hands away. He just wasn't ready to tell his younger sister that indeed he fell in love with her brother. He was worried about what Brunelle might think of him. Unknown to him that Brunelle didn't care about such little matters.

“I don't know what you are talking about, little sister,” Morgan replied with a stern voice, and turned to leave. “... Also, make sure that George doesn't hear about this nonsense. I don't want him worrying about me!”

End of flashback:

Morgan's Point of View:

Brunelle was right, losing me could break George. Although he doesn't say it, I knew that he truly cared about me. But it just wasn't in the way I had hoped. He saw me as his brother, and I was scared of asking him for anything more.

A tear dropped out of my eyes, but I quickly cleaned it, assuring myself that I wasn't going to cry like a coward.

“George might not have any romantic feelings for me, but I wouldn't spoil his relationship. I wouldn't give the gods the pathetic look they are expecting from me! I will not be moved!” I determined and clenched my fists. Taking a deep breath, I took up courage and came down from the carriage.

“I am going to face the warlocks. I will forget about George, and hopefully find someone to share a bed with for the night.”

I said and a half smirk settled on my lips.

As I walked away from the carriage, I could feel George's eyes on me, but I didn't dare look back. I knew that if I did, I'd see the same brotherly concern etched on his face, and it would only make things harder for me.

I took a deep breath, letting the cool evening air fill my lungs, and focused on the task at hand. The warlocks. I had to face them, no matter how daunting the prospect seemed. That's what I do every time. I deal with George's mess.

As I approached the entrance of the warlocks' lair, a shiver ran down my spine. The air around me seemed to thicken, heavy with the scent of dark magic. I steeled myself, gripping the hilt of my sword tightly, and stepped inside. I knew I wasn't meant to fight, but I was willing to use my blade if matter comes to that.

The interior was dimly lit, the only sound the soft whispering of unknown voices. I squinted, trying to make out the figures moving in the shadows. Suddenly, a figure emerged from the darkness, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly light.

"Welcome, Morgan," the warlock said, its voice low and menacing. "We've been expecting you."

I drew my sword, the metal glinting in the faint light. "I'm not here to make friends," I growled, trying to keep my voice steady.

The warlock chuckled, the sound sending a shiver down my spine. "Oh, we're not looking for friends either," it said, raising its hand.
