Chapter 81- Storm is Coming

Derrick’s POV

“Are you sure you want to do this without first speaking with your Luna?” The concern that I see etched on my Beta’s face irritates me and my wolf extremely. Clenching my jaw, I turn away from Charles, completely ignoring his question.

It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if I asked her about it, now would it? What kind of a stupid question was that? I can see Charles from the corner of my eye as he wars with himself internally over something that he clearly wants to say.

Letting out a frustrated growl, I turn in his direction and bark out at him. “Say what you want to say Charles!” He jumps in place, a sheepish look appearing on his startled features.

“What if she doesn’t want to do the Luna ceremony so soon?” I could see the moment Charles regrets opening his mouth to say those words to me, the moment that murder entered my eyes while I fought off my very pissed off wolf.

Charles bears his neck to us in submission in an attempt to cool our rising anger and save himself from the ass kicking that Hunter is begging to allow him to dish out. Hunter is known for being a murderous beast, but he has never acted out against our pack members until the delightful Salara came into our lives. Now, Hunter doesn’t care who they are if they say something we don’t like about our mate.

“Why wouldn’t she want to be my Luna?” Hunter growls out at Charles, causing sweat to appear across his forehead as he stands stiffly in his place. “She has already received my mark and given me hers, what more proof do you need that she is my Luna?” Hunter releases more of his Alpha aura with each word that he speaks, relishing in the whimper that we receive from Charles.

“That is not what I meant, Alpha.” He grits out through clenched teeth. “It is just-” He clenches his teeth in pain as more of my Alpha aura seeps out from me.

“For Goddesses sake Derrick!” The sound of my mother’s voice from the doorway halts my staredown with Charles, forcing me to lose concentration and pull back on my aura. I hear a slight sigh of relief come from Charles’ direction, but I ignore him for my mother. “What your Beta is failing at telling you is that Salara has only recently accepted her role as your mate and the Luna of this pack, a Luna ceremony tomorrow night might be too early for her.”

‘He could have just said that.’ Hunter grumbles in my mind, causing me to laugh out loud at the ridiculous comment from my wolf. Charles was trying to do just that when Hunter reacted out in anger. ‘Hush.’ He tells me before slinking away to the dark recesses of my mind to sulk.

With a shake of my head, I return my attention to my agitated mother before turning my gaze to my panting Beta. Guilt rushes through me at once when I see his hunched over form leaning against my desk. “Don’t…worry…about…me…” He gets out between pants, lifting his hand in the air to wave off my concern.

I drop down onto the leather sofa that is situated behind me, pushing my head back until I am resting against the back of the couch. My mother’s scent grows closer to me until I feel her smaller frame seating herself beside me. She reaches over with her hands and gives me a comforting pat on the leg.

“Salara isn’t from our world and this is all new to her. Too much at once can overwhelm her.” As much as I know my mother’s words to be true, I can’t help but feel like this is what needs to happen. There is a sense of urgency inside of me that is encouraging me to make her my Luna officially before the full moon tomorrow night.

But I can’t tell that to my mother because she will just brush it off as me being impatient and will cast aside the impending sense of doom I feel whenever I think about the full moon tomorrow. A storm is brewing and it is only a matter of time before it lands at our doorsteps and heaven help anyone that stands in its path.

“At least talk things over with her before you make the final decision.” With those final words, my mother rises from her seat and leaves the office with a nod of her head in Charles’ direction. Once my mother has exited and closed the door, Charles takes a tentative step in my direction.

With a roll of my eyes, I order him to stop walking on eggshells and come over to me. He lets out an amused chuckle and settles on the vacated seat beside me. Turning to face me fully, he eyes my features for a moment before nodding his head. His actions cause me to raise a brow in question.

“I have forgotten just how powerful Hunter can be when he feels threatened.” Charles gives me a lopsided smile, brushing his shoulder against mine to lighten the mood. “Whatever it is, you can talk to me about it.” Charles’ words surprise me, though I shouldn’t be too surprised by his skills of observation, he has been with me long enough to know when I am worried.

We sat in companionable silence for around ten minutes before I finally let out a sigh and told him what has been bothering me. “Something is telling me that if I don’t make her my official Luna before the full moon tomorrow night then it will be too late.”

He sits back in his seat at my words, a look of contemplation taking over his face. I leave him to his thoughts, settling back into my own as I try to analyze what could be causing me to feel like this. Whatever it is, I am sure it has something to do with Henry and that wolf Beowulf. Hunter growls in my mind at the mention of the Ancient wolf’s name.

There is no way that I will allow him to get anywhere near my mate! Especially after learning that every one of their previous lives together has ended in tragedy and the death of each of them. I will do everything in my power to keep Salara safe and happy for a very long time.

Charles suddenly rises from his seat beside me, startling me out of my thoughts as I rise up along with him in search of the threat. Charles lets out a chuckle, slapping me on the back before he makes his way towards my office door.

“Hey!” I shout after him. “Where are you going?”

He turns back and flashes me that killer grin that drives all of the women crazy in and out of the pack, his hand resting on the door handle. “I have a Luna Ceremony to plan.” He lifts his brow in amusement, pointing his finger in my direction. “And you, dear Alpha, have a Luna to distract until tomorrow evening.”

A huge grin spreads across my face. “Thanks Charles.” I have never been more grateful to my Beta than I am right now.

He shrugs his shoulders in nonconcern. “It is what I am here for.” He nods his head before leaving my office to begin the many preparations that are needed for the Luna Ceremony tomorrow night.

One more day and the whole werewolf community will know that Salara is my Luna and then there is nothing that Beowulf can do to take her away from me.

Unknown POV

“Has everything been all set for tomorrow night?” The man turns to look at the cowering woman, relishing in the fear that he can smell come off of her. She nods her head in the affirmative, too scared to murmur a sound in this man’s presence.

The man turns back to look out the expansive window that looks over the mountains, a gleeful look in his eyes. “Tell our soldiers to rest up for the night, for tomorrow we go to war.” The woman bows her head down low before scurrying out of the room as quickly as she can.

Soon, my dear, you will be back where you belong and together we will rule over the supernatural world like we were meant to do so long ago.

A knock at the door interrupts the man’s thoughts. Turning from the window, he looks just in time to see his best tracker entering the room behind his Beta. “He has been found.” The tracker says, wasting no time at all.

“Good.” An evil smile spreads across the man’s face, causing fear to run through the veins of the two wolves standing before him. “Then let the games begin.”
