Chapter 70- Lack of Discipline

Derrick’s POV

There has been no sign of Josiah since the day that Justin was attacked and killed at the border. No one seems to know if his and Savannah’s disappearance was before or after the attack. Though speculation is leaning towards them disappearing before the attack since they never showed up for their shift.

This is nothing unusual when it comes to Savannah, but Josiah is one of the more reliable young wolf’s that we have. He is always eager to pick up extra shifts and hasn’t missed a single shift since starting a couple of months ago. This behaior alone should have raised some questions when he didn’t show up for his shift.

Despite the two of them disappearing though, Justin should not have been left to patrol by himself when we are on high alert. The lack of rogue attacks that we experienced for a long time has made some of my warriors relax their guard a little too much. It is this reason that Salara and I are headed to the training grounds to kick some ass.

My head turns to my right where my lovely Luna is walking with determined strides beside me. I have seen a complete personality change within her since receiving my bite a week ago. I am not sure if it is because of her werewolf side now, or if this is the Salara that has been trapped beneath Henry’s constant mental abuse.

Either way, I find myself enjoying this new side to my Luna. She is as fierce as she is soft and it makes for the perfect combination for a Luna. Just yesterday, I watched her put someone in their place that was trying to talk down to her about her position in our pack. It was the sexiest thing I have ever seen and I couldn’t help but ravish her in a storage closet afterwards.

The full moon is in a couple of days and I am anxious to see what my lovely Luna’s wolf looks like. Sometimes I catch her day dreaming, reminding me of one of my pack members communicating with their wolf, something I know is impossible, but still… I catch her laughing out loud at something in her head and it makes me wonder.

Is it possible that Salara has a wolf living in her mind?

Henry wasn’t supposed to be gifted a wolf counterpart, but even his worthless ass was granted one. And a powerful one at that. I can’t help but feel like I made a mistake allowing Henry to get away with that witch in the woods. A sense of foreboding has been carrying around with me ever since.

Before I know it, we have reached the training grounds, causing all fighting to stop and everyone’s eyes to turn in our direction. I can feel Salara move closer to me, some of her newfound confidence waning with so many eyes on us. I move my arm around her shoulders, pulling her in close to my side to ease her nerves.

Within no time she has straightened her shoulders and I can see a new determined look harden her features from the corner of my eye. Pride swells in my chest upon looking at my beautiful Luna standing her ground in front of our fierce warriors.

Gamma Orlando soon steps forward from the mass of men and women standing around the training grounds, with our head trainer Nicholas coming forward beside him. Nicholas is not only the strongest in the pack, aside from Hunter and I of course, but he is also Orlando’s mate.

Nicholas came to us as a rogue wolf that had not quite gone mad, and once we found out he was Orlando’s mate, we welcomed him into our pack with open arms. It took some time to tame his wild side, but in the end it was worth it because his help with training has really improved my men and women.

There are rumors that he is an Alpha’s son that ran away from his pack to escape his father’s tyranny, but I have never felt the need to broach the subject with him. It doesn’t matter where he came from, it only matters where he is taking this pack in the future.

“Alpha.” They both say in unison, bowing their heads in acknowledgment. Their gazes move from me to Salara. “Luna.” They lift their right hand over their hearts as they bow to her next. This is the ultimate show of respect and it warms my heart to see the two of them accept their Luna in this way.

The warriors behind them soon follow suit with their trainers, pulling their hands over their hearts as they bow down to my Queen. Without having to be told, Salara nods her head in return to the pack members in front of her, acknowledging them in the same way that they did her.

“What brings the two of you here?” Gamma Orlando asks, straightening his body back up to his full height. Orlando is a tall man, standing almost a foot taller than myself. He is quite the intimidating man to look at, which comes in handy in battle.

“We are here to whip your warriors into shape.” Salara’s steady voice speaks out before I have the chance to reply. “We will not tolerate anyone else losing their lives because of lack of attention.” One by one, everyone’s head looks towards their feet, each of them feeling some of the responsibility for what has happened to Justin.

The sob of a woman suddenly breaks out among the people standing around, moments before we watch a young woman run off the training grounds with her hands covering her face. I barely got a look at the girl, but I am pretty sure that she is Justin’s sister.

I move to go after her, but Salara places her hand on my arm, indicating that she will deal with the crying woman. I flash her a grateful smile, not really sure how I was going to console the grieving woman. Salara soon disappears after Samantha, my eyes locked on her retreating form until she disappears around some bushes in the distance.

When I turn my attention back to my warriors, many of them have knowing looks on their faces, some of them going so far as to wink at me. I catch a few of the men, and even some women, also locked on to the path that Salara just took.

I can feel Hunter rising up inside of me to berate them for looking at our mate, but I push him back down and remind him that we can not fight everyone that looks at our mate. But we can destroy anyone who dares to touch her. That last part is what soothes him back to the dark recesses of my mind.

Bloody murderous wolf!

I shake my head clear of my thoughts and return my attention back to those in front of me. “We will be patrolling in groups of three from here on out.” My voice booms over the large crowd, quieting down any conversations that were going on. “Scouts have reported an increase in rogues in the area and as your Luna said, we will not tolerate losing anymore lives because of lack of attention.”

Agreements go up around me. No one wants to lose another pack member. We are all a family here and the loss of anyone hits us all hard. Me especially when the pack link breaks. Though I do find it curious that I never felt Justin’s death when it happend. Another thing I need to bring up with the Elders. Preferably when Salara is not around and I can think properly.

“Training will be mandatory for all pack members over the age of sixteen from here on out, with those over the age of eighteen having to train everyday, even on the weekends.” Groans echo around the training grounds, but no one utters a word of disapproval. “We all need to be prepared for an attack. We have no idea why there has been an increase of rogue activity in the area, but it can mean nothing good.”

“It is because you have given us such a weak Luna.” Someone says among the crowd, the voice sounding familiar. My eyes scan the crowd in search of who spoke such words against their Luna, landing on a smirking Daphne standing a few rows back with her arms crossed over her chest.

Everyone standing around her takes a few steps back, opening her up to my view. She looks around at her fellow packmates nervously, her hands dropping to her sides.

I sense her before I can see her, my body relaxing slightly at her familiar scent. “I’ll show you a weak Luna.”
