Chapter 132
I had been here for two months and Jeremiah had not woken up yet.
I was worried about him. What if he never woke up again? What would happen to me and our daughter if he never woke up again?
I could not even imagine raising Lexi by myself. I appreciated that Jeremiah had been doing this alone since she was born.
It was painful for me to see all the machines around him trying to keep him alive while he lay in bed not moving at all.
It was painful for me to see Jeremiah, who was once so obsessed with me and so strong, lying in bed, looking so vulnerable.
All I wanted now was for him to wake up soon. I got so many things to tell him.
I kept thinking about what I should say when he woke up. I wanted to tell him that I loved him too and that I never wanted to leave him again. I knew I had already said it, but I wanted him to really hear me. However, it did not seem like he would wake up anytime soon.
Lexi had just come home and I took a nap on the edge of the bed.
Lexi always sobbed quietly as she sat on my lap watching Jeremiah. All she wanted was a full and happy family but everyone made her sad, including me. I just wanted Jeremiah to wake up now so we could be a happy family.
I was napping when I felt someone caressing my hair in my sleep. I thought it must be Lizzy or Leo and said in a drowsy and lazy voice, "Stop it... Let me sleep in peace and quiet for a while..." But the hand on my head did not stop, nor did I hear a response from either of them.
I slowly opened my eyes and tilted my head up. A pair of dark blue eyes were staring at me. I thought I was dreaming, so I pinched my face, and it hurt! The person in front of me smiled slightly, with tears in his eyes, and nodded at me.
I couldn't believe my eyes... Jeremiah was awake! He was finally awake! But he looked weak, leaning back against the pillows and looking at me.
"You... I... You are awake!" I cried out in a light voice. Tears began to well up in my eyes.
He nodded and a drop of tear rolled down his left cheek. He opened his arms and I gently crashed into his chest. I hugged him tightly and cried out, "You're finally awake. You're here. I wasn't dreaming!"
"Yes, you have no idea how happy I was to see your face the moment I opened my eyes." Jeremiah said in a hoarse voice.
Then I quickly pulled away from him and said, "Wait here. I need to call the doctor."
With that, I rushed out of the room and called the doctor.
The doctor came and examined him. He had been staring at me since he woke up; he must have been afraid I would leave him again.
After the doctor left, I stood by the bed looking at him and he stared back at me.
It was so awkward.
I had been thinking of what to say when he woke up, but when he did, I was not able to say a word. He looked at me and lowered his head.
"If you want to leave, you can leave right now. If you don't want to stay here, you don't have to stay here."
"It's not like that." I quickly rushed to him and lifted his head back up.
Tears were streaming from his eyes and I was surprised to see him crying.
"Don't cry..." I stroked his face.
He grabbed my hand and kissed it, "I missed you so much, Iris."
"I missed you too, Jeremiah," I said.
His eyes widened as he looked up at me and said, "Really?"
I nodded and sat down on the bed, "I will never leave you again. I will stay here with you and Lexi."
He was very shocked, "What?!"
"From this moment on, I will be with you and Lexi. I will never leave the two of you again." I said as I held his big hand.
"Why?" He asked.
I looked at him and smiled, "Because I love you both."
