Chapter 117 Alpha Damien-- our common enemy
117\. Alpha Damien-- our common enemy
"What do you want from me?" Maria Nixon felt the separate hammering of her pulse at her throat and heart as she tentatively read the two men's impassive faces.
She hesitantly looked around herself and another kind of apprehension, alarming, moistened her forehead. She was brought to a dusky warehouse on the outskirts. It was abandoned and broken from the outside. And the first impression she got was that they were Damien's guards, who were ordered to take her to a faraway place and execute her.
She cried and refused to go inside. Her legs gave away when they took measured steps towards her and failed any attempt of running away she had.
Her hands alternately ached and felt dead. She wailed for help but the man in his fifties bent to her and announced, "I am Peter's Dursley lawyer, Ms. Nixon. My name is Edwin Holden, and this is my co-worker, Kenneth Francis. Please rest assured we are not from Alpha Damien's troop. We work for Mr. Peter, you must know him."
It was the display of an identity card that made her compose herself and follow the man. He was from a well-known law firm that undertook cases of wealthy but dangerous personalities around the world. The sharp look had somewhere told her he was a man with evil residing by his side. Alas, her mind was so disturbed by Damien's devilishness that she couldn't assail in a boat leading to some other destination.
As for now she was sitting in a comparatively less dirty room than the others she passed by. The two men who helped her escape sitting across from her.
"We will tell you everything, Ms. Nixon, but first you must drink something. You don't look good." Mr. Holden said, peering at the bottle of water placed on the small circular table between her and them.
Maria declined with a nod of head, "No, thank you sir, I am fine." Her mind screamed at her to find a way and get away.
Peter Dursley was another sinner. He attempted to rape Damien's girlfriend. He was brave enough to cause misunderstandings unlike any caused before and separated him from his darling. But his end was witnessed by all. It was like no other.
"Well then, Ms. Nixon, it is only fair you know the reason why we helped you." Mr. Holden said in a curt voice.
The politeness in his voice turned into menace. Maria sat back in the chair as she noticed the left side of his mouth curve. Leaning inside, he put his hands on his knees and entwined his finger. All that he did made Maria feel anything but safe. She felt her heart drum crazily.
"I expect you to be straightforward and tell everything quickly, sir. I want to get out of this city by tonight." Maria said and hoped she didn't sound scared.
Deep down her stomach was doing somersaults in dread. It was like she ended in a lake full of Piranhas after running away from the monsters on land. She only prayed they wouldn't ask anything related to Damien from her. Like… who wasn't aware of Peter Dursley and Damien's enmity.
She heard about Peter's bones being broken as he was beaten mercilessly. The ruthless alpha showed him hell in the dungeons she was avoiding to go to now. Third degree torture was what he was dawned with, and the entire world was given a warning to avoid betraying an alpha male.
Maria was foolish to think she could succeed in catching this fish in her net. When a satanic player like Peter tasted defeat them who she was. Certainly no one.
Indeed, greed and lust are emotions that make one think absurdly and commit mistakes that can't ever be mended. But Maria was not going to act stupid here. She didn't run away from Damien to fall prey in another devil's hands.
"But before you say anything further, let me make it clear to you that you didn't help me escape. I carved my own path and got where you picked me from. It would be preferable if you avoided using the word 'help'. I can assume that you brought me here because you anticipate certain advantages from the discussion we are having right now." Maria's shoulders erected and she sat straight.
She may be scared of Damien, these lawyers were no one according to her. Showing her fear would only make her look weak and persuasive, and it would give them an upper hand and force her down. Hence, gone were the looks of a scaredy timid kitten as she held her chin up in pride.
"Certainly, Ms. Nixon, we didn't help you. Had we been able to, then you would have been out long ago since we've been trying to help you come out from day one." Maria swallowed the lump in her throat and widened her eyes.
They were attempting to get her out of the hospital. Why?.
"We appreciate your intelligence and scheming that you were able to slip out of the tight security arranged outside your ward. In simple words, we are speechless."
Maria hardly noticed the appreciation in his voice. To simply say, he was freaking her out.
"How did you know I escaped?" Was her question in return.
The lawyers passed each other a shrewd look before turning back to her. Then the old lawyer shrugged his shoulders boastfully and said, "Connections, Ms. Nixon, connections. We have some of our spies stationed inside Alpha Damien's best friend's hospital. The building could be one of his possessions, but people can be bought and sold. And since we've been restlessly waiting for you to leave that hospital, we couldn't hold back and come to your rescue when we learnt about your escape."
"What do you exactly want from me?" Maria held the hands of the arms and stared deep in the old man's eyes.
"Cooperation, Ms. Nixon. Cooperation from you is all that we want." He rose and came towards her.
"Come to the point, Mr. Holden. What kind of cooperation do you expect from me?"
Maria's instincts suddenly alarmed her and she elevated herself from the chair. Mr. Holden stopped from across her and she stumbled by the leg of the chair while moving backwards.
Before she lost her balance, the old man's hand encapsulated her elbow in a hard grip and pulled her in a standing position before he ominously purred, "You must have heard the proverb that says that 'Two enemies having a common enemy are friends'. So we want you to cooperate with us like a friend against a common enemy, Alpha Damien, and erase his existence along with his wife and daughter."
Tbc…
