Chapter 116 She's out of the hospital

Chapter 116 She's out of the hospital
116\. She's out of the hospital

Maria's shoulder's hung. Her hold on the old woman's neck loosened, "I… I… I don't… I just need some help."

The ripples in her voice cut the old lady more than the surgical blade would have. She blinked her eyes, more in shock than terror as she watched the blade fall at her own feet. Maria cowered away and collapsed on her knees.

"I j-just want to go home. J-just want to get away from here before h-he catches me again." Tears gathered in her eyes, and she hugged her frantically shaking arms to her chest.

The woman's heart tore up at the sight. Maria was a beauty with innocent features. Fear didn't suit her face. Her lips were made to kiss, not bite and clench like that. Her body was perfect and seemed only natural. Seeing it bent towards the ground like a slave asking for mercy caused the woman to get on her knees and pull her in her arms.

"Please help me get out of here. P-please help me avoid him." The lady recognized Maria as the Alpha's guilty, and as the oldest staff she was well versed with her case.

What she did was completely wrong. As someone who admired Alpha Damien, she purely sympathized with him.

Ladies like Maria broke flourishing houses and enjoyed on the graves of other women's happiness with their husbands. They treated such graves as beds and made their nights passionate in them while other women cried.

But Maria failed. It was her bad luck that she shortlisted the wrong guy at the wrong time. But she should not be punished in this condition. She seemed to repent her mistakes. Regret was oozing out of her eyes in the form of thick tears. They hit the old lady like bullets in her heart. She couldn't help herself when Maria sobbed like a lost little girl.

"What you did was extremely wrong, dear. Alpha Damien has every right to punish you. But you have learnt your lesson I suppose." She said.

Maria only cried a little louder, yet not too much that would be heard by the passersby out in the corridor.

"It was the greed of money and lavish life that made me dig myself a grave. But I have realized my mistakes. I… I…" Maria's voice choked.

She had more to say. More to express that would make the woman develop some mercy towards her and help. What she didn't know was that this woman had already fallen for her colorless face. She was still young and beautiful. She deserved a chance to start a new life with positive intentions.

That was the reason why the oldest employee of Alpha Damien's best friend's hospital decided to help her— by going against the code of conduct. Help Maria against the Alpha.

Out she was gone not before whispering hopeful things to Maria. And when she returned, she passed a grin that felt like a ray of hope was warming her face up.

"W-what is this?" Maria pointed at a wheelchair and the bundle of gauzes she had in her hands.

There was another bottle that Maria could not recognize. It was some sort of liquid.

The old lady's mouth broke into an assuring grin. "There are guards looking for you everywhere, dear. Disguising yourself up as a victim of an accident is the only way to transfer you out of this hospital building."

It all made sense when Maria's gown was changed into another one. A loose one that hid her figure well. Then came bandages around her head and jaw, concealing her face into a mask of fake injuries. Fake blood was smeared on the bandages in various places to make it look like a real dressing over painful lacerations.

"Some bandages around your foot and an arm would complete your look." the lady said as she made it happen.

Then the spray Maria had been glancing at was lifted. The cleaner saw the curiosity in her eyes and answered her thought, "This is a stench spray we use on our fake patients, who want to show themselves injured to their families or friends for money or love. I know this is shocking but money makes fiction come to life then what is a fake operation or fake injuries." For the first time in two weeks, Maria's constantly trembling lips tasted a smile.

"This will cover your scent and help us to wheel you out of this hospital without getting noticed by the guards." She sprayed it all over her body.

When she was done, she went to take a look outside the room and returned with a confident countenance.

"The path is clear, dear. Let's get you out of this place." She pushed a step past Maria's wheel-chair but a hand came up and stopped her.

Maria gladly blinked her teary eyes. Her hooded face beamed behind the veil of rescue as she hugged the old woman's hand.

"Thank you so much, ma'am. You are blessing me with a new life. I will never forget this." She controlled her sobs.

Her bandaged cheek was caressed. The old lady pecked her covered head and said, "Don't forget this is your second birth, Maria dear. Prevent yourself from conducting such malpractices again. There are thousands of ways to live a luxurious life and you better not take a shortcut again after you walk out of this hospital building."

Taking both her hands, the cleaner concluded, "You are a lovely pretty young woman. Promise me you will make the most out of your revival. Promise me that my help will not lead to a bad consequence in future. You must know I am throwing my life at risk by helping you. I want to be assured my efforts won't be wasted and that my sincerity will not be stabbed once you have gained your freedom again."

Burning hot tears blurred her eyes. This woman was doing more than a favour. Like a mother pulling a baby out of the darkness of her womb, she was pulling her out of the darkness she's created for herself. The old Maria may not take her words seriously, this newly revived Maria would.

She covered the wrinkle-faced woman's hands with the other one and shook her head vigorously, "I promise you, ma'am, that I will do anything but fall prey in the hands of greed and do no such things again. I have never respected my life before but once I step out of this hospital today, I will be a completely new person. I am… I am going to change my identity completely and start a new life. I promise to you, ma'am, that your faithfulness will not be harmed or forgotten."

There was an emotional moment afterwards when she was pulled in a hug. Then things unfolded as quickly as a roll of thread, and Maria was maneuvered out of the hospital from under everyone's nose without being noticed.

At a point her heart crawled up in her mouth as she ran into beta Brian. He was on a call with Damien. She heard him lie on the phone before disconnecting a call and turning into another corridor.

'Thank god he didn't notice me. But it looks like Brian is refraining from telling Damien regarding my escape. It's only good for me. This will give me more time to get far away from this city. By the time Damien is told, I will be gone across seven seas.'

She thought to herself after the lady went back inside, leaving Maria on the isolated street in the rear.

She led her out through a secret egress only some of the members knew and which was used during the emergency for escape.

She discarded the bandages and changed into clothes she was lent by the old woman behind a dustbin. Wearing a mask to cover her face, Maria galloped towards her freedom. Towards a new life that was awaiting her.

Joy spread along her face and her irises dilated in excitement. Going to a friend she knew would help was on her mind. She was an estate agent with connections with people conducting illegal but significant businesses. Maria was hopeful that she would help her change her identity and get out of this city… this country forever.

The things she was going to tell her friend were jumping vividly in her mind when suddenly a black Mercedes halted before her, out of nowhere.

Scared, she froze in her spot assuming that it was Damien. Her legs already twisted and gave a run for life though her chances of getting away from the demonic alpha was zero.

"We mean no harm, Ms. Nixon." Her steps wavered and she hesitantly spun as the voice didn't belong to Damien.

Rather it was a man in his mid fifties. He gave her an assuring blink of his eyes as he opened the backseat door for her.

"In fact, we are here to save you from the ones who want to harm you." She noticed there was another man in the driver's seat.

They were not someone she met before, but the crisp suits they wore and the lustrous body of the car gave away their power.

"Who are you? And what do you want from me?" Scared yet amazed, she looked between the two men.

The man in his fifties raised his eyebrows with an urgent sigh, "We are sent by someone to help you, and if you don't take the hint and hop in the car now then you can blame your delay for your untimely and painful death."

Maria shook from a loud noise coming from the hospital. Her heart beats soared up.

"You must get inside the car, Ms. Nixon, before they come here. You can't go far away without a vehicle. So please," he pointed at the open door of the car.

Though her body was a trembling mess and her mind was blacking out and warning her to run away, Maria took the vehicle.

She didn't want to know what laid ahead for her or who these men were. As long as they helped drive her away, she wouldn't mind going to their place either. She just… wanted to be away from Alpha Damien and his wrath.
