Chapter 167
George POV
I pacing back and forth in my mind, trying to come up with a plan to save Vill. But every option seemed too risky, too dangerous. Malachi's focus was solely on me, testing my loyalty. And Vill, poor Vill, was suffering at the hands of Emma's magical powers.
I could hear Vill's faint voice, shouting "push", but I knew what that meant. She was telling me to push Emma. Only this could she be out of control, but that would be suicidal. Emma's powers were no match for me, she seems more stronger and evil. and if I tried to and was caught, I would be destroyed.
But Vill's words echoed in my mind, "push". She knew something I didn't, something that could change the course of this battle. I took a deep breath, weighing my options. I had to trust Vill, trust that she knew what she was doing.
With a newfound determination, I made my decision. I would find a way to get to Vill, to help her escape and take down Malachi once and for all. The risk was high, but I had to try. For Vill, for Adara, and for the entire pack, I had to try.
I steeled myself and made my move, using my skills to push Emma with a subtle strike that no one could have suspected. Emma's eyes widened as she felt a sudden jolt in her spine, her body weakening and her magic slowing.
Vill, sensing the opportunity, struggled to break free from the chain chair, but she was too weak to manage more than a slight movement. I knew I had to act fast, to maintain the charade and gain Malachi's trust.
With a calculated precision, I stood over Vill, pretending to deliver a brutal blow, making it seem like I was following Malachi's orders to torment her. But in reality, I was carefully ensuring that my strike was harmless, all the while keeping a watchful eye on Malachi, gauging his reaction.
The deception was risky, but I had to keep up the act, had to make Malachi believe I was on his side. For now, it was the only way to save Vill and to ultimately bring down the tyrannical alpha.
I held my breath as I pretended to strike Vill, my heart heavy with the charade. But just as I was about to "deliver" the blow, a guard burst into the room, his eyes fixed on Malachi.
"Alpha Malachi, Alpha Ashir is here to see you," the guard announced, his voice firm.
Malachi's eyes narrowed, his gaze flicking to me before returning to the guard. "I told you to stop him," he growled.
The guard shook his head. "I tried, Alpha, but he refused to be stopped. He's...persistent."
Before Malachi could respond, a figure appeared in the doorway, his presence commanding attention. Alpha Ashir, his eyes fixed intently on Malachi, his jaw set in a determined line.
"Malachi," Ashir said, his voice low and even. "We need to talk.”
Malachi set back, he couldn't reject Alpha Ashir.
“This was my only opportunity" I thought to myself.
I couldn't hesitate any longer. This was our chance to escape to freedom. I locked eyes with my companions, disguised in knights' armor, and gave a subtle nod. It was time to act.
With a swift motion, I freed Vill from her chains, and we both sprang into action. We sprinted towards the door, our footsteps echoing through the hall. Malachi's angry roar and the sound of his soldiers giving chase only urged us to run faster.
"Stop them!" Malachi bellowed. "Don't let them escape!"
But we had a head start, and my companions were ready to defend us. They fell in step beside us, their armor glinting in the dim light, as we raced through the corridors. Our hearts pounded in unison, our breathing synchronized, as we fought for our freedom.
We burst through the doors, out into the night air, and didn't stop until we reached the safety of the forest. Only then did we dare to slow down, our chests heaving with exhaustion. We had made it out alive, but we knew the danger was far from over.
We kept running, my heart racing with adrenaline, as Malachi's soldiers closed in on us. I knew we couldn't outrun them forever, and soon I'd have to face them head-on. I signaled to two of my companions, and they nodded understanding.
We split into two groups, with Vill and two of my companions heading towards the tunnel, while I and the other two companions prepared to face the soldiers. We drew our weapons, ready to take on the pursuers.
The soldiers attacked, and we fought back with all our might. The clash of steel on steel echoed through the forest, as we battled to hold them off. I fought with precision, taking down soldier after soldier, but there were too many of them.
Just when I thought we were gaining the upper hand, reinforcements arrived, and we found ourselves surrounded. I knew I had to act fast, or we'd be overwhelmed. I gave a swift nod to my companions, and they knew what to do.
They broke away from the fight, drawing the soldiers towards the Darkmoon bandry side, where our ambush was waiting. I fought on, holding off the remaining soldiers, giving Vill and our companions time to escape through the tunnel.
It was a risky plan, but it was our only hope. I prayed that it would work, and we'd make it out alive.
I kept fighting with every ounce of strength I had, my sword slicing through the soldiers with precision, my magic unleashing powerful blasts. But despite my best efforts, I found myself surrounded, outnumbered and outmatched.
I refused to yield, even when Malachi and Alpha Ashir arrived on horseback, their eyes blazing with fury. They charged towards me, their swords raised, ready to strike.
I stood my ground, my sword trembling with exhaustion, my magic dwindling. I knew I couldn't hold out much longer. But I refused to back down, refused to surrender.
Malachi sneered at me, his sword poised for the killing blow. "You fool, George," he spat. "You think you can defy me? I will show you no mercy."
Alpha Ashir's eyes gleamed with a fierce light, his sword raised in agreement. I closed my eyes, ready to meet my fate. I would not strike back, would not defend myself. I would give my life for Vill, for my companions, for our cause.
But just as the blades were about to fall, a loud roar echoed through the forest, followed by the sound of horses' hooves and the clash of steel on steel. The ambush had arrived, and the tide of the battle was about to change.
I opened my eyes to see Adara charging into the fray, her soldiers at her side. They clashed with Malachi's soldiers, swiftly turning the tide of the battle. The enemy soldiers were quickly overwhelmed, and I was surrounded by Adara's troops.
They fought fiercely, protecting me from harm. I joined the battle, my strength renewed by their arrival. Together, we fought as one, our swords and magic working in perfect harmony.
Malachi and Alpha Ashir, realizing the battle was lost, turned their horses and fled. Their soldiers, leaderless and demoralized, soon followed suit. The forest was ours once more.
Adara approached me, her eyes shining with relief. "George, thank the gods you're safe," she said, her voice filled with emotion.
I smiled, my exhaustion forgotten in the thrill of victory. "Thanks to you, Adara. We make a good team."
Together, we sheathed our swords and embraced, our soldiers cheering around us. The war was far from over, but in this moment, we savored our hard-won triumph.
