Chapter 148 Chapter One Hundred and Forty Eight
Chapter 148 Chapter One Hundred and Forty Eight
ALPHA XANDER POV
"You have to work on a plan that works. A decoy may not be effective" Xavier countered my earlier suggestion.
"It's Belinda. She's a seasoned witch. A decoy wouldn't be hard to create" I argued. Since Bailey, she was one of the best that I knew. There was nothing she couldn't do and I knew this was a foolproof plan.
"And they won't have a witch on their side? What if they notice? It could risk the children"
"So what the fuck do you suggest I do? And don't you dare suggest that I let Anna go. That won't work" I'm not putting her through any risk. Not when this seemed like a deliberate ploy to get her.
"It seems like the only way that can work" I growled my disagreement. There had to be another way.
"Have the guards reported on their location"
Gabriel shook his head. "They've not been able to find anything. Not even a trace"
"There's no way nobody spotted a woman travelling with two children" Xavier said loudly.
"Unless they're travelling under a disguise" I countered.
"That proves my point that there's indeed a witch on their side. And maybe an alpha"
"Simeon has his men looking already. All of the neighboring alphas keep to the treaty. None of them will risk it by helping a servant to take my children" I turned to look at Xavier again.
"The pack that she lived in before her arrival, you'll need to get more out of them"
"We haven't decided on a plan" Gabriel reminded and I frowned.
"Tracking them is the next best we can do. We can issue a reward for her capture. It'll get people on the lookout" Gabriel suggested.
"Belinda can put a tracker on her. You'd be able to find her wherever they take her. Our men will go and get her as we'll put an end to this"
"And if they hurt her?" I wasn't taking any chances when it came to her.
"We have our men ready and then we move. It's just a servant girl. There isn't much she can do"
I scoffed. "Two girls were taken out of this castle undiscovered. No guard saw them go through and you believe this is just an ordinary servant?"
"What do you think it could be?" Xavier asked, studying me closely.
"The last time we had unexplainable disappearances like this was when we had the issue with the rogues...Elderman's betrayal. There was an insider"
"You did a reform"
"Doesn't mean they can't still end up corrupted. Back then when we found out about Evelyn's father's involvement in the capture of wolves and children, there was something else he mentioned. Elderman wasn't the only one working to destroy me"
"He was the only one with a direct reason"
"True but he had a partner. A partner we never caught. And when we destroyed that operation, they got away. This might be revenge"
"But what does it have to do with a childhood friend of the Luna" Gabriel asked with obvious confusion.
Anna and I have always been entwined. From the moment we met as children. Even with the lack of memories between us, we remained connected.
"Anna was taken by rogues and according to her mother, the girl also disappeared around that time"
"But she returned" Xavier added.
"And supposedly died in a fire. Somehow came back. If anything, I think it has to do with the lack of closeness. The one where I'd been kept as a child when I was taken. There was a base there too?"
"I remember" Gabriel muttered.
"I thought we were done with this shit!" Xavier mumbled, clearly annoyed.
I sighed, feeling the same way. This was only happening because we had ignored loose ends. Nobody thought this would happen all over again"
"And the little girl was used. Sadly Anna trusted her" I pressed my fingers against my temple.
"We need a plan"
"Let Bailey do the tracker. Anna wants this too" Xavier added but I didn't want to budge on this"
"I'll speak to her" I walked to the door.
"In the meantime, gather the men. Make it as discreet as possible. I want the borders locked down, more security around the house and any suspicious wolf or activity should be reported immediately. No exceptions"
"Of course alpha" Gabriel responded.
"And I need a word to get to Anna's parents. They could be of help with this situation"
"That lad will be useful finally" Xavier muttered and I realized he was talking about Farron.
I shook my head. "Send a messenger. If he's still hanging around, I don't want him knowing about her disappearance. He's a pain in the neck" Xavier and Gabriel nodded.
"On it. You need to make a decision quickly"
I don't respond as I walk out. I went back to our room I'd stormed out of earlier to find my mate. We could come up with another solution. I just needed her agreement.
I wanted everyone safe so I wasn't willing to risk one for the other. All three of them will be rescued, including Salem because I know that's exactly what she'd want.
The room was empty, and Anna's scent was faint in the room. She had been gone for a while. I headed straight for my office, but it was empty too.
The children's room was next. Zayne's room too.
"Father?" Leo was standing in the hallway, a frown on his face.
"Where's your mama?" I asked.
"She was asking about you a while ago" I frowned.
"I didn't see her"
"I told her you were in the betas' office and she hurried over"
"Shit!" I muttered under my breath.
"Is something wrong?"
She must have overheard our conversation and in her current state of mind, stormed off angrily.
"Father?"
"No. I'll check in Sage's room"
"She left her room to find you and she seemed to be in panic" Unease filled me.
"I'll speak to Sage. Try and find your mama"
"I will" Leo said and hurried off.
I took fast strides towards Sage's room.
"Papa" she ran into my arms as soon as she saw me.
"Baby...what's wrong?"
"Freya...and Salem" she sniffled and I kissed her face.
"They're fine. They're only away for a short while. They'll be back soon"
"Do you mean it?" I nodded.
"I need to ask you about your mama"
"She left to find you after reading the letter" my heart stalled.
"Letter?"
"The one the lady gave me"
"What letter?" I asked, panic creeping into the edge of my voice.
"The lady gave it to me. She asked me to give it to Mama."
"The letter? Where is it"
Sage rushed over to the side of her bed to grab the letter and handed it over to me.
"Mama dropped it when she ran out" she mumbled but I was only half listening. I read through the letter, my teeth clenching as I realized what had just happened.
"Papa.." Leo rushed into the room, the look on his face mirroring what I felt in my heart.
"The guards spotted her moving outside the building. Nobody has seen her since"
"She's gone" I muttered.
"What?" He asked confused.
'Gabriel, Xavier.. head to the north border. Anna has gone after the girls"
