Chapter 147 Chapter One Hundred and Forty Seven

Chapter 147 Chapter One Hundred and Forty Seven
"Me? What do they want me for?" I asked in confusion.

"I have no fucking idea. But they were very specific. You for the girls"

"Then let's do it. They'll bring back the girls" Xanders mood changed.

"I'm not letting you go anywhere"

"Then what about the children?"

"We're going to get them back. There's nowhere on this earth they could have possibly hidden them that our men won't reach"

"Every second counts"

"Your life is important too. Why do you choose to jump headfirst into a risky situation"

"I'll do anything for my children"

"And I won't?"

"You guys. This is not the time to argue" Xavier intervened and I growled at him.

"I'm saying that I can go. You can track me down once the children are safe in your custody"

"What's the guarantee that they'll hand over the girls when they get hold of you. They could be lying for goodness sake"

"Then we ensure we have the girls in our hands when you hand me over"

"No" Xander growled out to my annoyance.

"What is wrong with you?"

"Common sense that you seem to be ignoring me"

"Don't insult me" I snapped at him.

"Maybe Anna's plan could work" Xavier imputed and Xander growled at him.

"It's not a fucking plan. It's a risk that I'm not willing to make"

"She goes nowhere" he thundered and stormed out of his office before either of us could get a word out.

"I don't know why the fuck he's acting this way"

"He's scared"

"And I'm not? They have our children"

"He understands that. But I know as much as anyone who was close by then how much your kidnapping affected him. He almost lost his mind while searching for you. If anything goes wrong and we have to track you again, it'll destroy him"

"This isn't about him"

"It's about all of you. What about the other children? How do you expect them to keep living if something happens to you"

"Then should I  sit and wait? All of them mean everything to me and I would give my life for my children. I won't sit back while they are in danger"

"We can make a plan around this. You and Xander need to agree. Arguing won't get you both anywhere in this situation"

"Tell that to him" I huffed.

"We'll find them Anna" Xavier tried to reassure me.

"The letter. Can I see it?" He hesitated.

"Your mate had clear instructions about showing it to you"

"I already know about it, Xavier. I want to see it" I demanded and he held out a paper.

"I'll be right back" he murmured suddenly and disappeared but I wasn't paying any attention to him as I read through the letter.

The north border. That was where they wanted me before midnight. Xander had not informed me about the deadline.

I read through the letter again and I couldn't help but notice the strange crossing of the words.

Pain struck the side of my head as a memory flashed in my head. A letter was clutched between my fingers as I lay on my bed reading it. The words in my memory were blurry but I seemed excited as I read through them.

I focused through the headache that blossomed in my head.

And finally, I made out a word. Val.

I gasped as the memory vanished leaving a terrible pain that slammed into my skull.

Val from my childhood.

She was the same person who wrote this letter. The one who had been in my home, unrecognizable to me. And possibly, Salem's mother.

I paced Xander's office. Mama has been right. And that Val didn't die. She was back in my life and most likely had something to do with Salem's appearance in our lives.

But I was confused. What did she want? Why didn't she tell me who she was? Why was she coming after my daughter?

Nothing felt right and the fear that my daughter was in grave danger had worsened. Was Salem aware of this? Was she used in getting close to my family and daughter?

Regret slammed into me like a sledgehammer. If that was the case then I had invited trouble into my own home.

Everyone had warned me. I'd been too focused on caring for an abandoned child. I'd ignored all the warnings.

This was my fault. I buried my face in my hands as the tears streamed down my face. I had to make things right.

I backed out of Xander's office, leaving the kite on the table. I wanted to speak to Xander again, to bring up the issue. If I could convince him then we could make a plan.

Since we know who was involved and with my parents' help, we would be able to find Val's location.

I checked our bedroom but it was empty. Leo's room too. I checked in Sage's room where they had all gathered before but Sage was alone, weeping heavily.

"Did something happen to my sisters?" She asked in an innocent voice.

"No. Why would you think that?" I asked as I brushed my thumb over her cheeks.

"I haven't seen them all day and here..." she pointed to the spot on her chest.

"It hurts"

"They're fine" I said in a convincing voice, kissing her cheeks.

"They have to do something for mummy but they'll be back by the time you wake up" I said encouragingly.

"That's what the lady said" she said with bright eyes and I frowned.

"What lady?"

"The lady from my dream"

"What did she look like?"

Sage shrugged. "I didn't see her face but she gave me something for you"

"Let me see it" I said with urgency and Sage rushed over to her bedside. She returned with a folded note, written on the same paper as the other two had been written.

I read through it, my fingers crumpling the edges of the paper.

It was a warning. If we tried to play a fast one on them, the girls would be killed.

That meant no decoy. I had to come by myself.

"Thank you for this sage, you wait here and Mama will bring your sisters to you. Understood?"

"Yes, mama. I'll wait here" I rushed out of her room, in search of Xander. Leo was standing outside his room.

"Mama?"

"Where's your father?"

"I saw him with Beta Gabriel and Uncle Xavier"

"Where?"

"The betas' office. Is there a problem?"

"No" I muttered as I ran in the direction of the beta's office. I heard their voice before I arrived so I slowed down.

"....she can do it"

"I'm not risking my mate. If anyone goes as far as kidnapping just to speak to her when she could have done it in this pack, then they don't have good intentions. Anna cannot see it but I can"

"What do you suggest?"

"A decoy will work. Belinda will mask her..." I backed away from their conversation, deciding that I'd heard enough.

They were going to do the one thing that I'd been warned against.

Since nobody was willing to listen to me, I knew exactly what to do.
