Chapter 48 Nothing But A Killer

Chapter 48 Nothing But A Killer
Julian
Blade must have gone insane, I wasn't ready to listen to his nonsense. As long as she was still warm in my hands, I would do anything for her. Anything. "You are crazy!" I managed to say as I ran back towards the car with Laura in my arms. A transport helicopter had arrived as soon as I got there and the paramedics attached her to the stretcher and placed her in the helicopter. "Her pulse is very low, she needs to be treated right now, no time to waste!" The chief paramedic ordered. "Come on! Get the lines ready! Let's fly back to the hospital!" Blade soon caught up with us and we flew back to the hospital in the city. I held her arm the whole time, looking at the heart rate machine. Her heartbeat kept dropping every minute and it was mental because I was screaming inside. A whole team of medical practitioners waited on the ground as soon as we landed. Doctor Twain and other doctors were the first to touch her. They wheeled her into a room and I had to wait outside as they stabilized her. Doctor Twain came out of the room and joined me with confusion in his eyes. "Your Grace, how is she doing?" "I don't know... I just found her. It was... I don't know." The words flew all around my head and I didn't even know how to put it. My legs weakened and I dropped to the nearest seat, holding my head in my hands. Laura had to be fine. Nothing must happen to her. Seeing that I couldn't respond to him, he moved to the paramedic that stood outside filling forms. "What's her diagnosis?" The paramedic shook his head and even before he spoke, I felt a part of me crack. "Not very good, she needs to be treated. Surgery if possible, it looks like there's some fracture in her skull." "No! We can't touch her, not in that state." Doctor Twain refused. I heard this and stood up. "What do you mean you can't do anything?" I panicked. Doctor Twain was surprised to see me there. He sent the paramedic away and turned to me. "She's in a delicate state. Her sickness and the injury are preventing us from touching her. She is simply too weak to perform surgery on." I threw my face up at the ceiling and held my waist. "Goddess. Can't she heal up or something? Can't you temporarily induce her natural healing?" I demanded. Twain shook his head. "I simply can't. The— cancer is spreading. It's inhibiting the healing factor she has, I told you about this before." He slapped his sides. "I will tell you one thing your Grace, you are very lucky she is still breathing, she should have died in the forest." "Do not talk about death." I growled at him. "Just tell me there's a solution to this!" "I am sorry your Grace but I can't. I really wish I could help. The only thing keeping her alive is her will to live. She is clinging on to life with everything she has..." A few nurses rushed past us with fluids and entered the room. I caught a glimpse of Laura, through the crack in the door. Machines beeped and kept her alive, she couldn't even breathe by herself again. I leaned against the wall. This was the second time in less than a day I was praying to the Goddess to keep Laura alive. "Please, I know I have been shitty, but please keep her alive. I'm so sorry, Laura, I'm so sorry I can't do anything for you." Tears threatened to roll down my face but I held them in as a high pitched voice interrupted me. "Please tell me it isn't true!" I turned to the right. Mackenzie and Felicity had arrived in the hospital. I quickly wiped my tears away and composed myself. Blade also got up from where he was lamenting and went to the crying Mackenzie and Felicity. "Please tell me it isn't true!" Mack repeated. Blade walked towards her. "It's okay, calm down Mack, we are looking for a solution." He tried holding her hands but she removed it. "Is it true that my daughter has cancer?" Felicity's eyes threatened to fall off her face. She walked up to me and looked into my eyes. "I'm so sorry Felicity," I apologized. "It's true." Felicity held her mouth and slowly went on her knees crying. Mackenzie exploded in tears and Blade hugged her to console her. "It's okay, Laura is fighting with everything she has. We are already looking for a solution," Blade assured Mackenzie. Mackenzie stared at the door and held out her hand in its direction. "No! No! You can't do this to me Laura! Why didn't you tell me all this time? I could have done something for you!" She lamented. "Calm down Mackenzie." "No! No, you don't understand! She was always trying to tell me but I was ignorant. I saw the signs, she was telling me indirectly but my—" Mackenzie slapped her own face. "But stupid me, always ignored. I was too ignorant and I'm paying for it." Mackenzie slumped to the ground and sobbed. "Mackenzie! Get a hold of yourself!" Blade screamed. He got her up and sat her down on one of the long benches. Felicity tugged at my clothes. "Please save my daughter, please," she begged. "Just do it for me, please find a solution for her." She was already weak from crying. It took a lot to not join Mackenzie and wail together, but I had to control myself in front of Felicity. I helped Felicity up and wiped her tears with my hands. "It's okay. I will find a way—" I eyed Twain walking around the corridor. —He had mentioned that there was a dangerous way to cure her, that was the only option we had left. "There's a way," I commenced. "The specialist, Twain said there's a risky way to reverse the cancer or to hold it at bay." Their eyes soon cleared up as I brought hope to them. Mack spoke first. "Are you saying there's a way—" "Wait! Wait! We have to talk to the specialist first. It seems it's something that can only be discussed with her loved ones, the risks to be precise." Mack looked at Blade. "Let's meet this specialist. Blade's a doctor too, he will understand what's going on," she said. I frowned at her. "No—" "Yes, bring Blade, he is a doctor and a close friend of hers. We might be able to do something!" Felicity jumped on it. I didn't like the idea of bringing Blade in at all. After all, it was in his care that she had this mysterious accident. At the same time, I couldn't refuse them because it was obvious they trusted Blade more than me. I turned to Blade and he waited for my verdict. "Fine, let's go with Blade." I accepted through gritted teeth. We stormed towards Twain's office on the next floor and the shock on his face when we all banged into his office was evident. "Twain, what's that risky option you didn't want to take?" I went straight to the point. Twain's eyes widened. "No! You can't do it! Even at this state it's too risky because she's weak!" I wanted to bash his skull in, but he was our only option in treating her. "We fucking know that it's risky because you have screamed it hard enough. Now tell us about it because we want to take it!" I growled, intimidating him with my aura. "Please help us!" Mackenzie held her hands together. Felicity was already crying beside Blade. "But your Grace, it's too risky—" he started to say but I cut him off. "What's the use of avoiding the risk? She will die if we don't do anything. Let's try and do something for Laura, try to understand what situation we are in." I reasoned. Twain was conflicted. He looked at his awards and certificates. By his facial expression, I knew it was something very dangerous, capable of even getting his license seized by the law. Twain wiped his forehead. "Fine, there's a way. The blood transfusion way, from a healthy host. Her mate." "I will give her my blood." I lifted my sleeves, ready to start it even right then. If it was that simple, then why wait? "No!" Blade suddenly refused. "You can't do that, it's dangerous and you might send her to her death faster than anything!" Twain shrugged. "I'm glad you see the risk here, but it's more than that. The only way she wouldn't go into shock is if the blood in her body is from the one that truly loves her, her true mate." "That's impossible. It can't be based on something supernatural like that. Mixing medicine with something as vague as that! You will only cause more damage than help her!" Blade violently refused. His body language had changed significantly. "Shut up, Blade!" I roared, getting to my feet as irritation filled me. "I'm giving her my blood and there's nothing you will do about this!" "You are nothing but a killer, not her true mate and you know it!" Blade snarled at me and the world went silent.
