Chapter 253 - Helping him
Anastasia
When he left, Nina looked in my direction with an irritated expression.
“So, you aren’t a normal maid after all. My suspicion was right.”
“You noticed it?”
“Yeah, right from the beginning. But, let me tell you one thing. Normal or not, I don’t want you to get in my way at any cost. I hope that’s clear to you,” she stated.
“I don’t even plan to do that. Rest easy.”
“Good. Bring me breakfast. I like scrambled eggs with green beans at a side.”
“Give me a minute.”
She’s so demanding. You can do whatever you want to. But, if you do something that might hurt Nikolai, I won’t just get in your way. I’ll fight against you with all my might.
“Princess, what was that girl talking with you?” Maria asked, sneaking into the kitchen.
“Uh….it’s nothing important. Just having small talks.”
“ Small talks? Like what?”
“She told me not to get in her way and told me to prepare breakfast for her. Do we have green beans?”
“Um….yeah. The grocery arrived a minute ago. There were fresh beans in it.”
“Go and grab some. I’ll make scrambled eggs in the meantime.”
“I think you should stop talking with her. She looks mean,” she said, heading towards the freezer.
“She’s the one who tries to talk with me, not me trying to talk with her.”
“Everyone who comes here has a habit of bothering you. I wonder why,” she sighed, bringing the beans over to the kitchen counter.
“Yeah….I wonder why as well…”
It was the same with those cousins and Rosalind and those girls as well. In the end, I’m getting dragged into everything willingly or unwillingly.
“So, when is she leaving? By the afternoon?”
“Hm…no. She’ll leave in 1-2 days she said. She won’t leave unless she’s convinced Nikolai has moved on from her completely.”
“Huh? Then we have to tolerate her for a while.”
“Yup, cut the beans in small portions. I’ll go and get the eggs.”
To be frank, I don’t like how she’s trying to get me out of his life. It’s not like I’m trying to get between the two of them in the first place.
And she’s violent as well. It’s better to stay away from her sight.
After breakfast, she went to bother Nikolai again. I was busy with my work, so I didn’t pry into their matter.
I was putting the clothes to dry when I saw her sitting in the garden on her own.
What’s she doing there?
All of a sudden a familiar scent drove into my attention.
I turned around to see Nikolai standing.
“Oh, it’s you. What’s up? What are you doing here?”
He smiled, which looked a bit sad.
“I came here following your scent.” He replied, walking over to my side.
“Following….my scent?”
I thought only fated mates were able to do that.
Maybe he’s able to do that because he’s an Alpha’s son. His wolf must be quite strong just like Sebastian.
“Are you doing laundry?”
“Uh, yeah. I’m done mostly. Do you perhaps need anything?”
He adverted his. “I’m running away from her. She’s bugging me since the morning.”
“Talking about the devil, she’s in the garden now,” I replied, looking in her direction.
“Let her stay there and cool her head. I’m fed up with her nonsense.”
“I don’t think she’s going to give up easily. She’ll come back to bug you after recovering her strength.” I joked.
“I know, that’s why I contacted her parents over this matter,” he replied. “They said she came back and ran away from home to come here. They tried to stop her a lot but she refused to listen.”
A problem child for sure.
“Will they come to take her back?”
“She’s not a child. And they think just bringing her back forcefully will make her come back again. It would be great If she learns her lesson. That’s why, told me to bear with her tantrums. They were quite apologetic too. That’s why I couldn’t refuse their request.”
“I see….”
“But,” he raised his face to look at me with a sullen expression. “I think I’m reaching the end of my limits. It’s getting too hard to answer the same thing to her every minute.”
Something was telling me that he was really starting to crack from the inside out.
“Can I help you out?” I asked without a single thought. “In whatever way possible.”
“Help? Hm….” he took a step closer and wrapped his arms around me tightly for a hug. “Can I hold onto you for a few minutes? It makes me feel better.”
“Hm…sure. If it makes you feel better.”
Sebastian, will probably not like this if he finds out. But, I don’t mind spoiling him a little from time to time.
He’s so precious. I just feel like protecting him.
We stayed like that for a few minutes when he pulled away he looked a bit sad, but not stressed like before.
“Thanks for listening to me. I appreciate it,” he said softly.
“Always ready to help. You don’t need to feel hesitant to ask for help either. We need to help each other out in times of trouble, right?”
“That’s true. I’m going back to my room then. See you.”
After he left, I heard someone behind me grinning.
“Who’s that?”
Maria came out of the shadows with a smug look on her face.
“You? When did you come?”
“I had been standing here for a while. But, I thought you were busy that’s why I didn’t bother disturbing you,” she giggled, covering her mouth.
“What? What are you meaning to say?”
“Weren’t you?”
“That’s…..true.”
She’d been standing there for a while watching us two, wasn’t she?
“Master Nikolai is so endearing, isn’t he? You can’t help listening to his requests,” she continued to speak in a teasing tone. “So, did he feel better at the end? Were you able to cure his sadness? Or is he coming back for more?”
“Maria! Will you stop it?”
“Stop what? I’m only telling the truth, aren’t I?”
“No one’s telling you to do that! Keep your mouth shut off unnecessary things.”
“Hm…you are so mean keeping me out of all fun. That’s not good you know? I’m your best friend, you are obliged to share these things with me. I’m so much more invested in your love life than you can imagine!” she complained proudly.
“My love life?”
“Yeah!”
