Chapter 4 - My mate is mute

Kaden.

“Hey, why were you with that girl?” Dale asked coming out from the toilet.

My feet hurt when she stepped on me, I didn’t know she could be that fierce.

“Do you know her?” I turned on the faucet and washed my hands.

“Who doesn’t, she’s the only girl in our school that couldn’t speak.”

I halted for a while for his words to sink in, she couldn’t speak.

“I thought you knew.” He scoffed. “You always walked past her in school, you have no idea?”

I had no idea she couldn’t speak, I won’t have fucking say that shit in front of her. I turned off the faucet and ran a finger through my hair.

I ran out of the restroom if I could see her, so I could apologize for what I said.

I could have hurt her with my words, I might be an asshole but I shouldn’t have said to her.

I ran back to the last place I saw her, but she wasn’t there. I stepped on something, and I removed my feet, it was a bracelet. I took them from the ground and stared at them, Janine was written on them.

I placed them in my pocket and went to my locker to get my things.

“Hello, Dad.” I was heading to my car, with the phone in my ear.

“Kaden, you should bring Stephane home.” He replied.

“Why should I do that?”

“Because she’s your mate, and after tonight, we are going to make the official announcement of Stephane being your mate. So bring her home, her parents can join after.”

“Dad...” I wanted to protest but the call has ended.

I sighed and threw my things into the car.

“Give me a ride, Kay.” Dale chuckled behind me. I turned to him with a glare. “I have warned you, don’t call me Kay, asshole.”

“Sorry, Kaden. Can I get a ride?”

“No.” I slammed the car door in his face.

“You don’t have to be so mean...”

I drove out of school, I had to pick up Stephane as my Dad said. I couldn’t go against his orders as much as I wanted to, and that’s what pissed me off.

I stopped at a boutique changed into a suitable outfit, and drove to her house.

“Kaden you’re here, Stephane, Kaden is here. She will be here in a couple of minutes, don’t you want to take anything while you wait.”

“Stephane has two minutes, else I will leave without her,” I replied to her mother. I stepped into the house and looked around.

I have been at the house a couple of times, but it was just Pack business and nothing else.

“I will go get her. Stephane!” She yelled.

I sat down on a couch and stared at their family portrait. I heard Beta Baron had another daughter but I have never seen her in his house, she wasn’t in any of their pictures either.

My wolf started growling, he’s been tensed and nervous since we got here. It was strange because my wolf didn’t feel this way.

I had my wolf since I was thirteen, my parents said it was normal because I’m an Alpha wolf, and Alpha wolf tends to have their wolf earlier than others.

It stirred in me, threatening to break out.

‘What the fuck, Maximus?’ I growled at him and stood up.

I paced around the house for no reason because Maximus was driving me insane. I unbuttoned my shirt, I was feeling suffocated.

I froze when I heard the howl. It was faint, but I could hear them because my wolf was active and our hearing was sharp.

Stephane came down from the stairs and distracted me. “Let’s go, Kaden, what do you think do my dress?” Stephane twirled around.

“Do you have someone else in your house?” I directed my question at her mother.

“It is just us and my husband, no one else is here, and our workers have all retired for the night.” She smiled. I could tell it was a fake smile.

“Are you sure?”

“I won’t lie, Kaden.”

“Is there any problem?” She scanned my face for answers. I snorted, and shook my head, hiding my expression quite well.

“I thought I heard something.”

“Our close is close to the woods, so you could hear a lot of sounds..” She chuckled nervously. Stephane tagged on my arm. “Let’s go, Kaden. I’m glad you came to pick me up.”

“I was forced to.”

“Doesn’t matter.” She tightened her grip around my arm and placed her head on my shoulders.

“See you later mom, I can’t believe I’m gonna be your Luna. I love you, Kaden, so much.” She grinned. “I can’t wait to tell everyone at school, I’m so excited.”

I rolled my eyes, and we left the house, I was beside my car when I heard another howl.

‘Mate is here.’ Maximus whispered.

‘Mate?’ I stared at Stephane in my arms. Is she my mate?

Stephane?

‘Get a grip, Max.’ I cut him off rudely, he should get his feelings straight.

We had the family dinner as my dad requested, and outside our house were reporters ready to capture the moment, Stephane was gonna appear on every freed as my chosen mate.

I tossed and turned on the bed throughout the night, I couldn’t sleep. I was up till morning.

“Kaden, breakfast with Dad.”

I came down for breakfast, and my parents looked happy, they had gotten what they wanted.

I couldn’t take my phone because it was buzzing with messages.

“I’m off to school,” I announced.

“You can skip school today if you want.” Mom countered.

“I need to practice.”

“What’s the need, you’re gonna be Alpha. I’m already making process for my retirement, your final exams are coming up, get ready, son.” Dad muttered, taking another toast.

“Don’t pay attention to your dad, do whatever you want.” Mom rubbed my arm, I nodded and walked out of the dining area.

I got to school and brought out the bracelet from my pocket, I need to return this to Janine and apologize.

I had to check her timetable to know what she was having this morning, she wasn’t having any classes.

I tucked my phone back into my pocket and decided to look for her, I went to the class we used for our study, and she was there.

It was easy to find her, I held the doorknob for a while and stared at her, she was probably drawing or writing in a notebook.

I couldn’t tell.

There was a faint scar on her forehead, it wasn’t there yesterday.

I opened the door and stepped in, she didn’t hear me come in, and I strolled over to her side, and took the Air Pod from her ears. She looked at me, and I didn’t know when the Air Pod fell from my hands.

My heartbeat skyrocketed, and I had the same tingling feelings from yesterday.

Her lips parted as if she wanted to say a word but nothing came out except a gasp.

“Mate?” My lips trembled.

The mute girl was my mate.
