Chapter 84 Celeste

Chapter 84 Celeste
Celeste's POV

“Mom, where are we staying tomorrow?” Liam asked curiously.

I sat leaning against the wall, watching the three boys play happily. Their screams and laughter echoed in the playroom.

It was a short break from work. Luckily, I only had a few documents left to handle.

Liam came over to ask me about it. He didn't want Levi and Eliot to know that he couldn't wait for tomorrow to come.

How adorable he was.

“Alpha Eiden bought a house in a residential area located between the werewolf and rogue clans,” I explained.

“Our privacy will be guaranteed.” I patted Liam’s hand gently with a smile.

“The security guards won’t let anyone who doesn’t live there past the gate, and they’ve sworn not to dig deeper into the residents of those houses and reveal what they know,” I said.

“Wow, that’s good.” Liam looked relieved, though his face still held a hint of worry. “So they won’t be curious about us?”

“Yeah.” I nodded. “Besides, it's not just us who are keeping secrets. It's all the residents there, too.”

“What do you mean?” Liam stared at me intently and sat cross-legged as if I were reading him a fairy tale.

“A lot of people buy houses there for their kept women—or men. Yeah, mostly women.” I shrugged, unconcerned.

Liam’s eyes widened. His mouth opened and closed, hesitant to say what was on his mind.

“I don’t have a problem with that.” I waved my hand. “Just let them speculate about my relationship with Alpha Eiden.”

“They’re completely trustworthy, right?” Liam squeezed his hand again.

“Yeah, sure.”

“Have you looked into it?”

“Yeah.” I winked at him. “There’s nothing to worry about.”

Liam took a deep breath through his mouth. He thought for a moment before nodding. “Okay.”

I raised an eyebrow.

Liam rubbed the back of his neck and looked away. “I’ll pack my clothes tonight before bed.”

I held back a smile. My hand stroked his hair. “Do you need my help?”

“No.” Liam shook his head. “I can do it myself, but thank you, Mom.”

“Anytime, my dear son.”

I’d done my research on the fifty-house residential complex. Every unit was ridiculously expensive, yet Alpha Eiden paid for it without blinking.

This proves that Alpha Eiden prioritized our comfort, protected us from his enemies, and hid our relationship until Liam accepted him as his biological father.

Security there was incredibly strict, but there were no surveillance cameras.

Well-built, combat-trained bodyguards guarded the gates and every corner of the complex. They were embedded even in the manager’s office and among the staff.

My agents had difficulty infiltrating the place, and the most frustrating part was that they didn't keep any resident data in their database.

If we wanted to find out who the residents were, we'd have to steal the papers in the manager's office. That wasn't easy.

Fortunately, no clients asked us to investigate the housing complex.

Like Liam, I hated admitting that I wanted time to speed up. Why did waiting for morning feel so painfully slow?

There are two hours left before dinner. I finished my work. Overtime is the thing I avoid most now.

"How could you agree to live in that house?" Beta Dylan strode quickly toward me.

There was nothing in his hand. He just wanted to say things I didn't want to hear.

That's why I didn't want to work overtime: Beta Dylan warned me he would accompany me. I took his words seriously.

He's been going crazy ever since he confessed his feelings to me.

"Our privacy will be guaranteed, and our identities will not be leaked. Those are both things we desperately need," I replied lazily.

I didn't look at him. Client emails were more important to me.

"Doesn't it bother you that people there will see you as Alpha Eiden's mistress?" Beta Dylan said.

I had expected to get a question like that from him.

"Oh, are you that happy about being considered your ex-mate's mistress?" he asked sarcastically, his voice rising at the end.

"People there never care about their neighbors. There's no introduction session, and no one leaves the house just to water the plants or greet the sun," I said casually.

"Why are you so sure of that?" Beta Dylan put his hand on my desk instead of pounding it.

“What if your neighbors see you and take pictures of you? They could post your photo in whatever community it is.” Beta Dylan let out a frustrated voice.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen.” I shook my head. “Everyone there needs privacy. There won't be any curiosity about who their neighbors are.”

Beta Dylan snorted. “I won’t help you if what I’m worried about happens.”

“I won’t ask for your help. Don’t worry,” I said, waving my hand. “It's been our agents who have been doing things like that.”

I glanced at Beta Dylan, only to find him gritting his teeth and clenching his fists tightly.

“You’re completely in love with him,” Beta Dylan hissed sharply. “You are trapped in blind love.”

I sighed heavily. I briefly abandoned the document. My gaze fell on him. “I don’t understand why you think I have feelings for my ex-mate.”

“It’s obvious. You can’t fool me.” Beta Dylan glared sharply.

I frowned. By the Moon Goddess, I never heard my heart tell me I loved Alpha Eiden. My wolf was my witness.

“Benedict would be very sad if you went back to your former mate,” Beta Dylan said firmly, as if giving a speech. “Forget about that man now, before your love for him grows.”

"I don't love him. How many times have I told you that?" I rose to my feet, my clenched fist crashing against the desk.

“I was sure Benedict is devastated that you still love me even after he’s gone, and furious that you keep pushing me to love you back.” I jabbed a finger toward his face.

"No way." Beta Dylan shook his head. Then he fell silent for a moment.

"Yeah, he was upset with me when he found out I loved you, but since he's dead and you need a man to spend the rest of your life with, he should let you be with me, and trust me, I can make you happy."

I stepped away from my chair and desk as he walked toward me. His eyes were like those of a predator, eager to play with his prey.

“You should be looking for your mate,” I said steadily, hiding my surprise as my back hit the wall.

“Why would I be looking for her?” Beta Dylan tilted his head. “I already have you. We’re meant to be together.”

“No. You’re wrong.” I retreated step by step while he kept coming. “You haven’t truly looked for your mate. I’m certain she’s waiting for you.”

"I don't care about that," Beta Dylan growled, his face red with anger. "You'll be my mate, since you don't seem to be getting a third mate."

That guy is absolutely insane. I'm tired of dealing with him. It only makes me more stressed.

My hand gripped the doorknob. I quickly exited my office. Beta Dylan didn't chase after me because he didn't want anyone to know about his feelings for me yet.

I wanted to leave this group. Too bad, I was their Alpha. I also had to stay for Levi, Benedict's heir.
