Chapter 278 Not a Simple Person
Chapter 278 Not a Simple Person
After saying this, Aaron paused, as if he felt he hadn't explained himself clearly enough, and spoke again. "Right now Sebastian doesn't have much real power, so he's scrambling to negotiate with the people at Blake Corporation."
"But those folks aren't pushovers either. Every single one of them is an old fox in the business world. How could they possibly let Sebastian take over everything?"
At this point, Aaron let out a cold snort, as if mocking Sebastian's arrogance. "He controlled the company for so many years, and he's still this naive? Does he really think those old-timers are easy to deal with?"
"But he's also too impatient. If he'd been more cautious, maybe he wouldn't be in such a mess right now."
Just then, Violet came out from the kitchen carrying soup.
When Aaron saw her, he immediately went over to help.
And Violet spoke at just the right moment. "Exactly. Sebastian is way too calculating."
"If he didn't have some real ability, how could he have been negotiating with the board for so long?"
"Plus, his family situation is complicated. Everyone's got their own agenda."
"Growing up in that kind of environment, I think anyone would end up psychologically twisted."
Violet said this while pursing her lips, clearly having no favorable impression of the man. "Thank goodness Elena and Sebastian didn't end up together. Otherwise, who knows what she would've had to go through."
At these words, Aaron strongly agreed. "I think so too. That Sebastian is obviously not a good man."
After saying this, Aaron came up to her and draped an arm around Elena's shoulders.
"Even though your brother often talks smack about you, no matter what, I definitely care about your happiness."
"All right, let's eat. Mom made all your favorites tonight."
Pulled to sit at the table by Aaron, Elena picked up her chopsticks.
But throughout this meal, she ate without tasting anything, her mind heavy with thoughts about Sebastian the whole time.
After dinner, Violet absolutely refused to let Elena go back, insisting she rest here.
"It's too late now. It's not safe."
"Besides, you have your own room here. Why can't you rest here?"
"Sure, it's a bit far from your studio, but that's fine. Your brother can drive you tomorrow morning."
Aaron, who was watching the financial news channel, immediately looked up when he heard this.
"What? Me again? Why should I? Let Dad do it."
Nolan, who had been quiet this whole time, glanced at Aaron when he heard this, said nothing, and went back to watching the news.
And Violet completely acted as if Aaron didn't exist. After consoling Elena for a while, she sent her upstairs.
Back in her own room, Elena didn't even think about washing up.
Now that everything around her had quieted down, she uncontrollably started thinking about Sebastian's situation again.
She had never imagined his current circumstances were this bad.
After thinking it over, she sighed, opened her laptop, and started searching through the projects at her studio.
Although her help would be a drop in the bucket for Sebastian.
But no matter what, he had helped her before, and she couldn't just stand by and do nothing.
Even though things were over between them, she couldn't be an ungrateful person.
Thinking this way, Elena picked and chose, finally selecting a fairly substantial project.
After briefly reviewing it to make sure there were no problems, she sent it to Sebastian.
[This project is me repaying the favor. You helped me before, so I'm helping you once.]
After doing this, Elena set her phone on the desk, planning to go wash up.
Who would have thought that right then, a video call came in.
The instant she saw Sebastian's name, Elena was completely stunned.
Because she never expected this guy would see the message so quickly and even call her on video.
She stared at the flashing screen for a long while before finally answering.
The moment she pressed the button, both their faces appeared on the same screen.
Sebastian on the other end had probably just been trying his luck. The instant he saw Elena, he froze, then lowered his eyelids.
After a moment of silence, Elena spoke in a low voice. "Before, you gave me a really good project that brought me a lot of success. This project is one I picked from my studio. It should help you a bit with your current situation. Take it."
Though Sebastian had already guessed her purpose, hearing her cold tone with its businesslike detachment still made his expression fall somewhat.
But quickly, he collected his emotions, nodded, and looked up at her again.
"Thanks."
"Um... have you been doing okay lately?"
"About what happened that day, I'm really sorry... That wasn't my intention... I just..."
Sebastian stammered through his explanation. Elena listened, her expression showing no change.
Watching Elena's calm face, Sebastian's disappointment deepened, and his lips slowly pressed into a straight line.
"Um, Elena, I..."
"Elena, can I come in?"
Aaron's knock suddenly came through, making both people on the video call change expressions dramatically.
Elena seemed somewhat guilty now, immediately flipping her phone face-down.
Then, as if realizing something, she spoke to Sebastian on the other end.
"All right, let's leave it at that. I'm hanging up."
After saying this, she quickly ended the call and told the person at the door he could come in, then lowered her head, seemingly not daring to meet Aaron's eyes.
And the instant Aaron pushed the door open and entered, he sensed something off about his sister. He couldn't help narrowing his eyes.
After looking her over, his gaze landed on the phone she was trying so obviously to hide, seeming to understand something. He curved his lips.
But he pretended not to notice anything, asking with apparent confusion, "What were you doing in your room? Why did it take you so long to answer me?"
"I... I wasn't doing anything..."
Elena was guilty as hell, her eyes evasive.
"Really?"
Aaron clearly didn't believe her. He stared at her with narrowed eyes for a while, then smiled. "Fine, if you weren't doing anything, then you weren't doing anything."
Elena breathed a sigh of relief, then awkwardly tried to change the subject.
"Did you need something? I need to wash up."
Hearing his sister so eager to get rid of him, Aaron first pretended to sigh disappointedly, but quickly recovered his usual smile.
"Nothing much. Just came to tell you something..."
Under Elena's questioning gaze, the man strode up to her, leaned down close to her ear, and spoke.
"Be more careful lately. I have a feeling Jasmine and her crew have other tricks up their sleeves."
"And I also don't think the Crawley family is as simple as they appear on the surface. There's definitely someone else behind them."
Hearing Aaron's warning, Elena's eyes darkened, and her expression gradually became serious.
Indeed, too many things had been happening lately. And that brother of Jasmine's was clearly no pushover either. Otherwise, he wouldn't have controlled Colton Group for so many years.
