Chapter 263 I'll Help You

Chapter 263 I'll Help You

A week flew by in the blink of an eye. Once Elena felt mostly recovered, she decided to check herself out of the hospital.

Someone must have leaked the news. On discharge day, while she was packing her things in the hospital room, Sebastian appeared in the doorway holding a bouquet of yellow roses.

"For you."

Looking at the flowers he held out, Elena's lips twitched slightly. "How did you know to come…"

"You're being discharged today. Of course I had to come help."

Sebastian shoved the bouquet into her hands and steered her to the side. "You're still recovering. Just sit there and rest. I'll handle this."

After he pressed her into a chair, Elena watched him move efficiently around the room, feeling somewhat surprised.

After all, Sebastian had always struck her as rebellious and untamed. She'd never seen this considerate side of him before.

The man opened her suitcase and began packing her belongings while talking.

"Let's go out for lunch today. I know a great restaurant. We should check it out together."

Hearing his invitation, Elena pressed her lips together, about to respond when Aaron's slightly surprised voice came from the doorway.

"Sebastian? What are you doing here?"

As he spoke, Aaron noticed the two packed suitcases at Sebastian's feet, his brow furrowing.

Before he could say anything, the man spoke first with a smile. "I heard from the hospital staff that Elena was being discharged today, so I wanted to come help."

"Mr. Blake has so much to do every day, yet still finds time for this. How unexpected."

Aaron glanced at him and let out a cold snort, his words pointed.

Sebastian acted as if he hadn't caught Aaron's hostility, smiling slightly as his hands continued their work.

"Why wouldn't I? Elena's not some stranger. Helping out is only natural."

"Besides, we've known each other for quite a while now."

His words were deliberately ambiguous. No matter how dissatisfied Aaron felt, he couldn't say much more. He could only snort and head toward the elevator with the two suitcases.

After he left, Sebastian looked toward Elena, who was examining the flowers in her hands. As if something occurred to him, he suddenly spoke. "Do you like them? I specially bought an imported variety."

"Not only is each bloom absolutely gorgeous, but I heard this variety wilts slower than others. You can keep them in a vase for quite a while."

At his words, Elena's lowered lashes trembled slightly, and her heart softened a bit. "Yes, they really are lovely."

"Um, you…"

She sighed first, then as if remembering something, instinctively opened her mouth to speak.

Noticing she'd stopped mid-sentence, Sebastian looked up at her with some surprise.

Seeing her slightly furrowed brow and where she was looking, he turned around.

Sure enough, standing in the hospital room doorway was Roman!

He also held a bouquet of flowers and was looking at Elena, his eyes seemingly tinged with sadness.

But quickly, he adjusted his emotions, smiled faintly, and approached Elena.

As he passed by Sebastian, he didn't spare him a single glance, as if the man didn't exist in the room at all.

Sensing this deliberate snub, Sebastian's expression darkened. He lightly ran his tongue over his lower teeth, watching with deep, shadowed eyes as Roman approached Elena.

"Elena, for you. Congratulations on your discharge."

Looking at the irises the man offered her, Elena pressed her lips together, her expression somewhat cold.

"Thank you, Mr. Quinn, but you really didn't need to buy these. Completely unnecessary."

The moment she finished speaking, Sebastian seized the opportunity like he'd been waiting for it, immediately mocking him.

"I say, Mr. Quinn, aren't you supposed to be some business tycoon who can make it rain or shine with a flip of your hand? How come you don't even know what flowers Elena likes?"

"Don't tell me you just grabbed this bouquet from some roadside stand to give to Elena?"

"You…"

Roman's expression darkened. He was about to snap back when Aaron appeared in the doorway.

But the instant he saw the extra person in the room, his face fell.

"What is this? Is this hospital room a farmer's market? Why so crowded? Can just anyone walk in here?"

Hearing Aaron's mockery, Roman's face showed his displeasure, but thinking of his plan, he lowered his posture.

"Ms. Elena, today is Elena's discharge day. I was worried about her, so I wanted to come see her."

"Not necessary."

Aaron waved his hand dismissively, the mockery in his eyes impossible to suppress. "Didn't come when you should have, but insist on showing up when you shouldn't. Honestly, it's pretty pointless."

At those words, the atmosphere in the room suddenly grew stifling.

Roman's expression also looked rather unpleasant. He gritted his teeth and addressed Aaron.

"Ms. Elena, isn't this a bit much? I just wanted to come see Elena."

"Mr. Quinn, if I remember correctly, you two have been divorced for quite some time, right? What's the point of you being here?"

As Aaron was about to take the remaining suitcases downstairs, hearing this, he couldn't help but turn back with more mockery. "Besides, shouldn't you be spending your time on your son right now?"

"After all, he's your son. Don't you care about him?"

The instant those words left his mouth, Roman immediately recalled what had happened the day Elena was hospitalized.

Thinking of that, guilt welled up uncontrollably in his heart. "I…"

"I can't afford to hire someone of Mr. Quinn's status for menial tasks. Way out of my price range."

Aaron's sarcastic comment reached Sebastian's ears and lifted his spirits considerably.

He'd disliked Roman for a long time now, so naturally he was more than happy to see someone else taking jabs at him.

And so, Sebastian continued packing while thoroughly enjoying Roman's expression.

The commotion they were making wasn't small. Elena noticed people outside glancing into the hospital room intermittently.

Realizing this, she frowned and spoke up.

"Enough, Aaron. Stop it. If there's something to discuss, we can do it privately."

Hearing this, Aaron thought she was protecting Roman, and his eyes immediately widened. "Elena, you…"

Before he could finish, he caught Elena's meaningful look.

The hot-headed Ms. Elena seemed to realize something, bit his teeth, and could only glare at Roman.

"Fine. Then hurry up and finish packing. Let's get home early."

After Aaron backed down, the atmosphere in the room finally eased somewhat.

Perhaps because of Roman's participation, everything was packed up quickly.

Aaron did a general check, confirmed nothing was missing, then took Elena to the van.

An hour later, they arrived smoothly at Elena's spacious downtown apartment.

Because there were quite a few things, everyone made several trips back and forth before finishing.
