Chapter 141
"Victoria, how dare you hit me?" Mia covered her face and got up from the ground.
Victoria sneered, "You came to me trying to stir up trouble, weren't you asking for it? Mia, I'm warning you, don't mess with me!"
"You—" Mia swung her hand to slap back.
Victoria quickly grabbed her wrist and laughed coldly, "Remember how you used to follow me around shamelessly, begging to be my friend? Have you forgotten already? Just a while ago, I dunked you in the fountain at the hospital entrance. Want to try that again?"
"Victoria, shut up!" Mia's face turned red. She tried to break free, but Victoria's grip was too strong.
Victoria suddenly let go, and Mia almost lost her balance, barely catching herself on the glass door handle.
"The ace I'm holding now is the baby in my belly. You can't touch me!" Victoria turned to leave.
Mia's voice rang out behind her, "You're so pathetic. You have late-stage liver cancer, and your husband still makes you have a baby? He really loves you, doesn't he!"
Victoria stopped in her tracks and turned around, "How do you know that?"
"It's not just me who knows—your husband knows too. Too bad he doesn't care if you live or die because he wants revenge. You think he cares about the baby? No, he just wants to torture you in every way possible until you die!"
"You're saying Martin knows?"
"He told me himself that you have cancer. How else would I know if he didn't tell me?"
Victoria blinked her dry eyes and left in a mess.
So Martin knew!
He knew everything all along!
She thought he cared about the baby in her belly, but she was the fool!
This was just his way of torturing her.
Victoria didn't drive. She walked aimlessly down the street.
They used to love each other so much. What did she do wrong to end up with a husband like this?
Snow suddenly began to fall from the sky.
Victoria remembered the first time she met Martin—it had suddenly started snowing then too.
People on the street quickly opened their umbrellas.
The cold wind cut across her face like a knife.
Her fingers kept trembling.
Tears streamed down uncontrollably.
She knew this would happen, but when it actually did, her heart still ached! She was still sad!
Her body suddenly began to hurt, like a snake viciously biting at her organs.
Victoria crouched down, her shoulders shaking.
A mouthful of blood suddenly sprayed onto the tiled street.
"Ms. Gonzalez, what's wrong?"
A large hand suddenly steadied her swaying body.
Victoria's eyes were blurred with tears from the pain. She looked up to see Aaron in a business suit, holding a large black umbrella.
"Let me take you to the hospital." Aaron was about to pick her up.
Victoria thought of Martin at the hospital. If Martin saw them, there would be trouble.
She quickly backed away and waved her hand, "No need. Mr. Hill, could you please open the zipper on my purse?"
Aaron picked up the bag on her wrist, opened the zipper, and at her request, found an unlabeled plastic bottle, opened it, and handed it to Victoria.
With trembling hands, Victoria poured out a large handful of small pills and put them in her mouth.
"Ms. Gonzalez, have some water."
Aaron bought a bottle of water, opened the cap, and handed it to her.
Victoria thanked him and drank.
Her mouth, which had been bitter and almost numb, came back to life as the water washed through it.
"Ms. Gonzalez, I really think you should go to the hospital. Your health is important." Aaron looked at her with concern.
Her heart suddenly warmed. She realized something funny yet cruel—strangers treated her better than Martin, her own husband!
But Victoria couldn't blame Martin, because the Gonzalez family had done wrong, and she was their only daughter. If she didn't pay for it, who would?
Even so, she still felt hurt, sad, and disappointed.
Aaron called her name softly several times before she came back to herself.
When he suggested taking her to the hospital again, Victoria smiled bitterly, "No need. I know my own body. Mr. Hill, what are you doing here?"
"I just finished a contract negotiation and happened to pass by. I saw someone whose back looked like you, so I got out of the car. Didn't expect it was really you." Aaron held the umbrella for her and smiled, "Where do you live? Let me take you home."
"No need to trouble you."
"It's no trouble. The snow is getting heavier, and it's hard to get a cab at this time. Ms. Gonzalez, don't worry. I know you're married, and my character wouldn't allow me to do anything inappropriate. I'd help any friend I ran into."
"Then I'll trouble you, Mr. Hill."
"Don't mention it, Ms. Gonzalez."
Victoria got into a business van with Aaron.
Victoria didn't know the driver—probably one of his staff.
In the car, Aaron naturally crossed his legs, touched his chin with his fingers, and looked at her, "Ms. Gonzalez, I haven't seen you at the Gonzalez Group lately. Did you change jobs?"
"No, I'm pregnant and resting at home."
"You and your husband patched things up—that's good."
Victoria didn't respond. Many people congratulated her on her pregnancy.
Only she knew that being pregnant meant she would disappear even faster.
"Mr. Hill, how's the investigation going about the mute boy?"
"Sorry, it happened so long ago, no news yet."
"Could you please speed up the investigation, Mr. Hill? I want to meet him as soon as possible." Victoria felt anxious, thinking about how little time she had left.
"Sure."
But they didn't know.
Martin's car had already stopped at the apartment entrance first!
Just as he was about to get out, Terry called.
He answered the phone while unbuckling his seatbelt.
"Mr. Collins, the results are in for that bottle of medicine you asked me to test."
"Is it medicine for a terminal illness?" Martin's fingers tightened around the phone.
Terry's tone was respectful and certain, "No, it's just an ordinary bottle of vitamins. The shape and smell are similar to cancer medication, but it's not. Someone must have had it specially made!"
"You're sure?"
"Mr. Collins, even if you gave me a hundred times the courage, I wouldn't dare lie to you. If I can't even identify a bottle of vitamins, how could I work for you?"
Martin's face turned dark as he hung up. So it was all an act!
It was all fake!
He had Victoria's medicine tested, and it turned out to be vitamins?
Who gave her the nerve to lie to him like this?
Martin was about to open the car door when he saw an unfamiliar business van pull up across from him.
Then he saw Victoria get out of the car. Aaron got out after her and handed her the purse she'd left in the car.
Aaron held an umbrella for her, most of it covering Victoria, and he looked at her so gently.
A fire of rage burned in Martin's heart. These two were still in contact!
