Chapter 198 Telling the Whole Truth
Chapter 198 Telling the Whole Truth
When Evelyn appeared at the ward, Ryan sat alone on the hospital bed, surrounded by complete chaos.
All the medical staff had been driven out by him. Seeing him now, he was virtually unrecognizable compared to his former glory days.
Hearing the movement, Ryan lifted his head slightly. When he saw Evelyn, a glimmer of light appeared in his eyes, but the hope in his gaze was gradually extinguished by Evelyn's icy demeanor.
"I heard you woke up and wanted to see me?"
Evelyn stood at the doorway, maintaining distance between them.
She was unwilling to approach, yet she understood why Ryan was so desperate to see her.
After being entangled for so long, perhaps it was finally time to end this chapter.
Ryan lowered his head, looking at Evelyn with confusion, unwillingness, and even a trace of deep affection. But to Evelyn now, it only made her feel disgusted.
This man had always loved himself most of all. Whatever talk of profound devotion was merely a choice made after careful calculation.
Compared to Louis, Ryan's first choice had never been her. His current regret and struggle seemed nothing but laughable to Evelyn.
"Did you call me here just to say this?"
Evelyn's cold voice echoed from the corner. Ryan's movements froze. He instinctively wanted to approach her, but the moment he stood up, his legs gave way and he fell hard to his knees.
After lying in bed for months, his body had long since weakened. If Evelyn hadn't discovered the truth early, Ryan would probably already be dead by now.
"Don't look at me like that."
Ryan stood frozen, his face full of disbelief. "Do you know that when I saw you, I even—"
"When you saw me, I was already Maria."
The resolute coldness in Evelyn's eyes made him clearly realize there was no going back between them.
The room fell deathly silent, each lost in their own thoughts.
"I just came from the police station. Hannah tried to flee with that butler, abandoning Harry before leaving. Their boat had an accident. By the time they were found, they were already dead. As for Mrs. King..."
Evelyn paused, studying Ryan's reaction.
He trembled with rage, his eyes filled with viciousness.
Ryan still didn't know about Harry.
"Windsor Corporation's operations in Celestria have gradually returned to normal. Mrs. King has completely fallen. As for where she's gone, we don't know."
"You've been lying in this hospital for months, completely unaware of what's been happening outside. Consider this a heads-up. Now that you're awake, it's time you took responsibility for certain things."
With that, Evelyn turned to leave. Ryan, ignoring his own disheveled state, crawled desperately across the floor, trying to grab her.
Evelyn stood at the doorway, turning slightly to look at the man on the ground, finding the scene utterly pathetic.
Ryan's current state was nothing less than what he deserved. From the day he decided to join forces with Layla, he should have known this would be his fate.
"What about Harry?"
Seeing Ryan's concerned expression, Evelyn hesitated, unsure whether to tell him the truth.
"Hannah actually abandoned Harry? She's absolutely heartless. Even if I become a ghost, I'll never let her go."
Hearing this, a hint of mockery flashed in Evelyn's eyes. She said softly, "I forgot to tell you—Harry isn't your biological son. He's Hannah's child with someone close to you."
Ryan froze completely. Disbelief washed over his face. The son he had longed for wasn't even his.
But seeing the disdain and mockery in Evelyn's eyes, even if he didn't want to believe it, he had to face reality.
"I know you won't believe it easily. You've never truly trusted anyone except yourself. Anyway, now that you're awake, you can get a paternity test done. But remember—this time, don't let anyone interfere. As for Harry, Sophie has already completed the adoption procedures. Don't even think about going after him."
Dropping those words, Evelyn paid him no more attention. No matter how Ryan screamed helplessly in the room, she never looked back.
The hospital corridor reeked of disinfectant.
She used to hate that smell, finding it sharp and unpleasant. But now it served as a constant reminder that people who shouldn't be in her life needed to disappear completely.
When she emerged from the hospital, Louis was waiting outside.
He leaned against his luxury car, a lit cigarette in hand. The moment he saw Evelyn, he hastily threw it away.
Watching his instinctive gesture, Evelyn found it somewhat amusing.
The two exchanged glances. No words were needed—they understood each other perfectly.
On the drive back, the breeze blew past and Evelyn felt incredibly relaxed, as if she had never been this carefree before.
"So you told him everything?"
Louis hadn't expected Evelyn to handle things so decisively this time. He only regretted not witnessing Ryan's reaction firsthand when he learned the full truth.
Evelyn nodded. Thinking of Ryan's helpless screaming—pathetic and powerless—she felt not a shred of sympathy for him.
The corners of Louis's mouth curved upward as he grasped Evelyn's hand and didn't let go.
Soon Evelyn noticed they weren't heading home, but toward the waterfront instead.
"Aren't we going home?"
Before leaving, they had promised Julie and Leo they'd celebrate together at home. She hadn't expected Louis to change plans.
"It's still early before evening. Can't you spend some time with me?"
His tone sounded almost jealous.
Evelyn shook her head helplessly, allowing him to drive her to this unknown destination.
Before long, the car stopped at the waterfront. Evelyn followed Louis out of the car and immediately spotted Julie and Leo playing on the beach.
