Seventy-Three

Laura

Liam was discharged after two weeks as the doctor said, before then I went through a lot, Liam was extremely mean and he treated me harshly but I couldn't do anything because I knew those were the times I had left with him.

When the doctor came the night before to inform us that Liam would be discharged the next morning, I went to the bathroom and cried because I knew time was up and there was no excuse to stick around.

"So you are leaving?" Ethan asked when he arrived with the driver.

"Yes,"

"When?"

"Sooner than you think, today," I said and he sighed.

"Can I change your mind?" He asked and I shook my head.

"No, this is for the best,"

"Laura, I really don't think this is what is best," he said and I gave him a small smile.

"I should be mad at you, you are taking Tracy away from me and you don't want to tell me where you guys are going,"

"I'm sorry, believe me, I tried to convince Tracy to let me go alone but she refused, the only thing I can assure you of is that no matter where Tracy goes, her heart would always belong to you something tells me she would find a way to come back to you," I said and he sighed.

"It's okay, like you said we will find a way,"

"So, are you sure you have enough money?" He asked and I smiled again.

"Yes we do, once we are settled we would find something to do to earn money,"

"The babies," he said frowning.

"Oh don't worry, once they are 3 or 4 years old, I'll bring them to see their father, I'm sure Liam would be over this whole thing by then, and I promise, I won't say a bad word about their father," I said and he shook his head.

"That's not what I'm saying Laura, what I mean is you can't do any work still pregnant with the babies, you know what, how about I give you 500 thousand dollars?" He asked and I shook my head.

"Don't worry Ethan, we would be fine I promise,"

"Laura, I thought Liam was stubborn, but you take the award," he said and I laughed

"How is Mrs. Miller doing?"

"She's fine, I almost couldn't stop her from coming here, it would really break her heart when she learns that you guys left,"

"I know, I'll see them before we leave, maybe after Liam is settled at the mansion, I'll go to your place with you to see them one more time," I said already feeling sad.

"I wish you won't do this Laura," Ethan said and I gave him a sad smile.

"You've said that with different words like a million times Ethan," I said and he nodded.

"Can I ask you a question?" he asked and I know nodded that he should go ahead.

"Where is the ring? I've been wanting to ask you since that day but I didn't want to sound insensitive, don't lie to me, I'm sure you didn't sell the ring, where is it?" He asked and I pulled the necklace that I was always hiding in my clothes out, I watched as Ethan's mouth dropped open.

"I got fat and I couldn't keep it on my fingers, I couldn't give it back to him, I didn't want to so I had to tell him I sold it," I said and he shook his head.

"Oh, Laura,"

"I think we should go back inside now, I don't want him to suspect anything," I said and he nodded.

I went inside first and he came in five minutes later, I had already packed Liam's things, we just carried them and we left the hospital.

When we got to the mansion I made sure Liam was comfortable, I looked around the mansion one more time while he talked to Ethan.

Ethan left and fifteen minutes later, when I was sure Liam was in his room, I met Ethan like I said I would.

He drove me to his place where I spent some time with Maria, Mrs. Miller, and Isabella, they didn't know I was saying goodbye but when I was leaving I hugged them longer than usual, I took my time but that didn't lessen the sense of loss I felt when I went outside with Isabella, Tracy, and Ethan.

"Laura don't go, please," Isabella said giving me the puppy face.

"No use Isabella, I tried changing her mind before we left the hospital but she didn't change her mind," Ethan said and Isabella rolled her eyes.

"That was you, I'm special," Isabella said and I smiled.

"You're right Isabella, you are special, but we are still doing this, I'm sorry, it is for the best,"

"Laura you're not cursed, stay and you will see you are not," she said and I shook my head.

"The damage done is already enough," I said and I watched as tears pooled in her eyes.

"I still can't believe you're leaving, I told myself it is not true but you are leaving, you are leaving us," Isabella said as tears rolled down her cheek.

"We'll still talk, you can send me messages and send me voice notes while chatting, you will send me pictures too and I'll do the same, you're still part of my life, all of you are," I said crying too.

"Just messages and pictures, I can't even call, I don't want this Laura, I don't," she said hugging me, I hugged her back and I felt someone join us I didn't need to check to know it was Tracy.

"You guys are such cry babies, you made me cry," Tracy said when the hug ended.

"I'm sorry," I said wiping my tears.

"I promise to keep in touch Laura, every day, and you must reply to my messages," Isabella said and I nodded.

"I'll go back to the mansion, Tracy, I'll meet you at the house, you can start putting the luggage in the car, I'll join you," I said and she nodded.

I watched as he pulled her into his arms and kissed her.

"What are you doing?" She asked eating his chest lightly.

"I'm starting to say goodbye," he said hugging her tightly against his chest.

I couldn't watch it because it reminded me of something I could never have again so I left, I went back to the mansion to see Liam one time.

I met him in the sitting room drinking a glass of water.

"Where did you go?" He asked the moment I entered.

"Somewhere," I replied not knowing what else to say.

"Where did you go, Laura? Did you go and meet him?" He asked and I frowned in confusion.

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm asking you, Laura, stop acting like you don't understand what I'm saying, did you go and meet your man?" He asked again.

"I'm not obligated to answer that,"

"The hell you are not," he yelled throwing the glass cup with him, I watched in horror as he came for my stomach, I quickly covered my stomach with my hands, thankfully it missed me by a few inches as it passed my side and went crashing into the wall behind me.

I was scared and I looked back to see the broken pieces of the glass then I looked at Liam who looked shocked himself, I turned and rushed out of the mansion then I got into the car that was waiting for me outside.

I went to the house to join Tracy and we left New York an hour later.
