Chapter 822 Adding Fuel to the Fire
Chapter 822 Adding Fuel to the Fire
To rescue Preston, Joseph agreed to divorce Ashley.
Apart from the company shares, Joseph and Ashley's joint assets were divided into two parts.
However, Ashley's assets were already minimal, as she had transferred several properties to Paul in advance.
When Joseph found out, he was so angry that he staggered.
"Did you plan to divorce me all along?"
Ashley, expressionless, said, "From the moment I knew you were cheating, I started planning. Joseph, I've been enduring this for years. Do you think I let your illegitimate child appear in public for no reason?"
"If Paul hadn't been so young back then, I would have confronted you already."
Joseph's face darkened. Although he had long wanted to end this marriage, he hadn't done so for the sake of his reputation.
Now, it was finally happening as he wished.
But he was unwilling to split half of his assets with Ashley.
All his assets were earned by himself, not a penny from the Watson Family.
"Think about your illegitimate child. If you don't want him to continue suffering inside, sign the papers quickly," Ashley said sternly.
Joseph glared at her fiercely and signed his name on the agreement.
Fortunately, he had already transferred some assets to Preston's mother. They signed the papers and agreed never to see each other again after the divorce.
Ashley quickly went back to pack her things and temporarily moved in with Paul.
Preston was released as expected. Joseph personally went to pick up Preston and took him home.
This home was one he had hidden for many years, where Preston and his mother, Ondine Smith, lived.
After the divorce, Joseph moved in directly.
Preston kept silent after leaving the police station. When he got home, Ondine hugged him and cried."Alright, let Preston take a bath and rest. We'll make him something good to eat tonight," Joseph comforted.
Preston clenched his fists tightly. Although he was an illegitimate child in name, he lived better than Paul. His smooth life had been disrupted by Paul. He was angry and unwilling to accept it. He wished he could get rid of Paul with one stroke, making that annoying Paul disappear forever.
After taking a bath, Preston lay on the bed, and as soon as he closed his eyes, he saw Paul's smug face. Since he joined the company, everything he did started to go wrong. Paul deserved to die.
A few days later at the airport, Ashley reluctantly held onto Paul.
Ashley said, "Take care of yourself, be cautious, and hire more people to protect you."
Ashley added, "If things get tough, come back to the States. Nicholas is there."
Ashley's eyes were red.
Paul smiled. "Mom, don't worry. I'm very lucky."
Ashley was still worried and wanted to say more.
Christina took her hand and said, "Aunt Ashley, the plane is about to take off. We need to board quickly. Don't worry, my dad has connections here, and they'll all help Paul."
Ashley gave one last piece of advice, "Remember to call your wife every day."
"I will." Paul watched as Ashley and Christina boarded the plane, feeling relieved.
As long as Ashley returned to the States, he could act without worry. Next, he would let Joseph know just how ruthless he could be when he went crazy!
As soon as Paul left the airport, his phone rang. It was Joseph's calling. He hung up immediately, put his phone on silent, and drove back to the city.
They had only been apart for a few minutes, and he already missed Christina. 'What should I do?'
The plane probably hadn't taken off yet.
Paul pulled up the handbrake and picked up his phone to text Christina.
Paul: [Sweetheart, have you fastened your seatbelt?]
Christina had just sat down and was about to rest when her phone vibrated.
Christina: [Not yet.]
Paul: [The in-flight meals on this airline are pretty good. Make sure you eat.]
Christina: [Got it.]
Paul: [Their wine isn't great, so don't drink it, but the juice is fine.]
Christina couldn't help but smile at Paul's messages.
Elowen leaned over, "You look so happy. It must be a message from your husband."
Christina heard the boarding announcement and quickly replied.
Christina: [The plane is taking off.]
Then she put her phone on airplane mode and set it aside.
"Your husband is really generous. Seeing you so happy, I can tell he's a good husband."
She and Knox had originally booked economy class. Since this was a business trip, they couldn't book better seats. But before boarding, Paul had upgraded them to business class for free.
Christina blushed and smiled.
After the plane took off, Ashley fell asleep lying down, and Christina flipped through a magazine. As she read, she started to worry about Paul. 'Would he be lonely by himself? Would he be in danger?'
Given that someone as evil as Preston had hired thugs to rob and steal just to get close to her, he would definitely target Paul too.
When she returned to the States, she had to talk to Lucas. Paul was her husband now, and she absolutely couldn't let anything happen to him.
Paul reluctantly put down his phone after receiving Christina's message that the plane had taken off.
Joseph called again.
Paul was in a good mood, so he answered.
Joseph's voice was almost a roar, "Paul, where's your mom?"
"You two are divorced. Why are you looking for her? What? Do you regret it and think your ex-wife is better?" Paul's words were blunt, making Joseph's heart feel like it was about to explode with anger.
Joseph took a couple of deep breaths to suppress his anger.
"Where is she?"
"On a plane."
Joseph's pupils contracted sharply. "Where to?"
"Of course, away from you."
Joseph gripped his phone tightly, as if it were Paul, and he wanted to crush him. "Paul, do you know what your mom did? Does she still want to return to the country?"
"What did my mom do?" Paul asked indifferently.
No matter what Ashley did, she probably didn't want to return anymore.
"She hired people to trash Ondine's house and even injured her!"
"My mom is amazing!" Paul almost laughed.
"You!" Joseph was so angry he couldn't speak.
He was at the company when the hospital called, saying Ondine had been beaten.
Ondine was Preston's biological mother and Joseph's college classmate.
He had been having an affair with Ondine back in the States. After Ondine gave birth to Preston and his company started to grow, he secretly brought Ondine and Preston to Country Y.
"It's impressive that my mom held back until now," Paul sighed, "If it were me, I would have beaten her half to death long ago."
Paul's words were provoking Joseph's anger.
Joseph hung up the phone.
The villa where he and Ondine lived had been completely trashed, and Ondine was hospitalized. The culprit, Ashley, had escaped. Even if he had evidence to sue her, it wouldn't matter.
