Chapter 823 Missing
Chapter 823 Missing
When Christina wasn't around, Paul felt life was dull every day, and he suddenly started working seriously.
This change took everyone by surprise.
Paul said, "Bring me the financial statements from last quarter, the quarter before that, and forget it, just give me the entire last year."
Early in the morning, Paul arrived at the office and gave new orders to the newly hired assistant, Elysia Turner.
Elysia looked puzzled. 'Isn't my boss Paul supposed to be a do-nothing figurehead?'
"What are you standing there for?" Paul glanced at her indifferently and asked.
Elysia quickly said, "I'll get right on it."
Then she walked away in her high heels.
Paul couldn't help but complain, "You are wearing such high heels to work and your feet will be killing you later."
Ten minutes later, Elysia returned, looking aggrieved. "The finance department said the reports are stored in the archive room and are hard to find."
"Whether it is hard to find or not, I want them in half an hour, or they can pack up and leave," Paul said harshly.
Elysia felt even more wronged. On her first day at work, she encountered such a situation.
She made three trips but still couldn't get the reports.
Paul impatiently stood up. "If you can't complete the tasks I give you next time, you can go to the finance department and settle your pay for the day."
Elysia shuddered. She was hired because of her looks, and her actual abilities didn't meet the high standards of the Thomas Group.
HR had told her that her boss Paul was a playboy who liked beautiful women, so the first requirement for hiring was to be attractive.
They also said Paul was very gentle with women, but he had just been terrifyingly harsh.
Elysia realized she had been deceived. But the Thomas Group offered a good salary, so if she wanted to keep the job, she had to put aside other thoughts and complete Paul's tasks properly.
Paul personally went to the finance room, and the finance manager, unable to withstand his pressure, had to give him the financial statements for the previous year.
The manager thought Paul, as a playboy, wouldn't understand them.
Paul skimmed through the thick stack of financial statements in front of the finance manager.
Paul added, "Give me the last quarter's as well."
The finance manager found them and handed them over.
After reading them, Paul had a deeper understanding of the Thomas Group's financial situation.
From then on, Elysia took Paul's tasks seriously. Even when she encountered difficulties, she would find ways to achieve her goals.
Paul knew the company hadn't seriously hired an assistant for him, but for now, he needed to keep up appearances. Only when the enemy let their guard down could he succeed.
For the next half month, Paul frequently stirred things up, causing every department manager to complain, to the point where Joseph now dreaded seeing these senior managers.
Because every time Paul caused trouble, they would run to Joseph to complain.
A month later, under Paul's subtle influence, he not only caused chaos and complaints in various departments but also became familiar with the core work of each department, gradually gaining some real power in the company.
Today, at a senior management meeting, the company's future direction was to open up the markets in Country Z and Gloriana and set up a manufacturing plant in Terracentra.
The plan was set, but deciding who to send for these tasks was still a problem.
After a heated discussion, three people were chosen.
Surprisingly, Paul was among them. Paul raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
Joseph would decide who would go where and do what.
"Preston will go to Country Z to open up the market, and Paul will go to Terracentra for an inspection." Joseph assigned the tasks without much thought.
Paul stood up, pretending to be surprised. "Sending me for an inspection, I might not do well."
"This is the simplest of the three tasks. If you can't even handle this, you should resign from your position as general manager," Joseph said sternly.
Usually, these people looked down on Paul, but now they were sending him to Terracentra for an inspection.
Paul sat down, both surprised and pleased but also fearful. "Alright, I'll do my best." He looked like someone who lacked ability but was trying hard.
Preston lowered his head slightly, gripping his pen tightly. 'This time, I will make sure Paul won't come back alive!'
Three days later, Preston set off for Country Z, and Paul left for Terracentra two days later.
After returning to the country, Christina threw herself into medical work. She was so busy every day that she fell asleep as soon as she hit the bed.
Paul would always send her a video message in the morning.
Although each one was a hurried five minutes, he never missed a day.
However, today Christina went to work without receiving a message from Paul.
She couldn't help but feel a bit worried.
Before reaching the hospital, she quickly called Paul on a video call.
No one answered.
She called again, but still, no one answered. She felt increasingly uneasy.
The car had arrived at the hospital entrance, and Christina paid and got out.
She continued calling as she walked inside.
"Miss Mitchell, hurry up, the ER is short-staffed."
"Okay, I'm coming."
Christina hurriedly ran to the locker room to change clothes.
Before putting down her phone, she sent a message to Lucas.
Paul must not be in trouble.
Christina spent the whole day helping in the ER, barely having time to eat lunch, and left her phone in the locker room.
It wasn't until 8 p.m. that Christina, exhausted, returned to the locker room to change clothes. When she took off her mask, there were a few marks on her face.
The first thing she did was pick up her phone.
It had run out of battery and shut down automatically.
She rummaged through her bag for a charger, plugged it in, and impatiently turned it on.
Several missed calls popped up, all from Lucas.
Christina quickly called back, "Dad, how is it? Have you contacted Paul?"
"Christina, are you still at the hospital?"
"Yes."
"I've sent someone to pick you up; they should be there in a few minutes."
"Dad, has something happened?" Christina felt nervous, thinking Paul might be in trouble.
"Paul was sent to Terracentra for an inspection. Shortly after he landed, he went missing."
Hearing this, Christina felt dizzy and quickly held onto the table.
"Miss Mitchell, are you okay? You look so pale," a nurse said, seeing Christina squatting on the ground, her face pale.
"I'm fine," Christina forced herself to say.
She was a strong person, but for some reason, her body suddenly felt weak.
A dull pain started in her stomach, gradually intensifying, and sweat appeared on her forehead.
"Miss Mitchell, you should sit down." The nurse helped her up.
Christina clutched her stomach, her phone dangling from the charging cable on the table.
She picked it up.
"Christina, are you okay?" Lucas's anxious voice came from the phone.
"I'm fine. I'll talk to you when I get home."
"Okay, stay in your office; the driver will be there soon."
"Alright." After hanging up, the pain in her stomach became unbearable.
