Chapter 335

Chapter 335

"I remember." Alexander's face tensed slightly, complex emotions flashing through his eyes.

When he'd first seen that scar, he'd assumed Emily had a questionable past.

Even after they'd discussed it, he still remembered her disappointed expression from back then.

"I'm sorry. I was too quick to judge and made assumptions. Forgive me—I'll never doubt you again."

"That's not what I wanted to discuss." Emily understood his suspicions back then.

The location of the scar was unusual, and he wasn't a medical professional—his doubts were natural.

What mattered was the story behind that scar.

She lowered her gaze, her hand resting on her abdomen. "It's from a knife wound I received years ago, trying to save someone's life."

Alexander's body jolted violently, his expression becoming incredibly complex. When he spoke again, his voice was hoarse. "Saving someone?"

"Yes. I don't know what had happened to him at the time. There were thugs surrounding him; he was bleeding heavily and unconscious. I didn't know what to do except rush in and take a knife meant for him." Her voice trembled as she finished.

Back then, she'd been too focused on protecting him to feel fear.

But whenever she recalled that scene later, she couldn't help but shiver.

She'd been afraid for herself, but even more terrified she wouldn't be able to save him.

Seeing her trembling body and panicked expression, he acted before thinking, pulling her into his arms.

"It's all in the past now. You're safe. I won't let anything like that happen again. You'll be okay."

"I wasn't actually afraid at the time," she admitted, instinctively clinging to him, her voice tense. "I just wanted to save you. But when I woke up, someone threw a bank card at me, saying it was your payment for my services."

"What?"

He gripped her shoulders. "That's impossible! I..."

After just one word, Alexander's throat seemed to close up, leaving him speechless.

If Emily was the one who saved him years ago, then Sophie...

She watched his changing expression and silently sighed, her features tinged with resignation.

"I know some things are difficult for you to accept. But with your resources, I'm sure you could investigate what really happened back then."

"The hospital has detailed records about my abdominal injury."

"And the person who gave me that bank card was definitely your driver. You could..."

Before she could finish, she felt his embrace tighten painfully, making her wince.

"Alexander, what are you doing?" Her slightly husky voice revealed her discomfort, making him realize he'd gone too far.

"I'm sorry," he loosened his grip slightly, but still held her firmly. "You're right—I've been a fool. I could have easily investigated everything, but instead I blindly trusted someone else's word. This time... no, from now on, I'll always believe you."

"You believe me?"

Now it was Emily's turn to be surprised.

Sophie held such an important place in his heart, and with that very real scar as evidence, Emily hadn't been confident he would believe her story.

After all, she had no proof, while the incident had been highly publicized with countless people claiming she had loose morals.

"If I don't believe you, who should I believe?" He looked at her with unprecedented seriousness in his eyes. "The injustices you've suffered—I'll make them right, one by one. Trust me, I'll get you the justice you deserve."

Tears fell in large drops as Emily couldn't hold them back any longer.

She used to think she cried when she felt wronged.

But now that he said he believed her, her tears flowed even more forcefully, impossible to suppress. The emotions surging in her chest were overwhelming.

"Alexander, do you have any idea how many times I just waited for you to believe me once?"

"Back then she did so many things, clearly trying to take you away, but you still made me defend her, prove she wasn't the homewrecker..."

By this point, she was nearly sobbing.

That incident had been a thorn in Emily's heart, something she couldn't help but resent.

"I'm sorry—it was my fault. I didn't know she was doing so much behind the scenes. I thought you were targeting her deliberately, so I wanted to teach you a lesson. I was such a fool. I'll never do anything like that again." He held her, gently patting her back, continuously comforting her.

After crying for what seemed like forever, Emily fell asleep against his chest.

It had been too long since she'd cried so hard or released her emotions so completely.

Alexander carried her back to the master bedroom, tucked her under the covers, and stepped out with his phone.

He made a call. "Find out everything Sophie has done over the years. I want her to apologize to Emily."

With Alexander's involvement, information about Sophie quickly surfaced.

Her manipulation of Alexander and Emily's relationship, her role as the homewrecker, even her plagiarism of Emily's research—everything was exposed one by one.

The evidence was detailed and irrefutable.

[My God, Sophiewas actually plagiarizing? Talks about not competing with other women, but does the worst things behind the scenes.]

[She was the real homewrecker, how disgusting!]

[Truly, God won't let true lovers stay apart. After all these years, the truth is finally out.]

Emily woke to countless messages and saw the extensive negative coverage about Sophie online. She immediately understood what had happened.

At this point, whether Sophie apologized hardly mattered—her reputation was beyond salvaging.

Did it feel satisfying?

Perhaps not as gratifying as she'd imagined, but the tightness in her chest had eased.

She got up and pulled open the curtains. Outside, the sunshine was brilliant—a beautiful day.

Her phone rang—Sophie calling. She hung up immediately.

Seconds later, it rang again. This time it was Donna.

After a moment's hesitation, she answered.

"Emily!"

As soon as the call connected, Sophie's agitated voice came through. "Are you trying to destroy me? You've been deceiving me all along! The children are his, but you pretended they weren't! All so he would feel guilty and help you deal with me, right?!"

The accusations continued, showing she felt no remorse for any of the exposed wrongdoings.

Emily gave a contemptuous laugh, narrowing her eyes as she looked out the window. "Sophie, does it even matter anymore? Your perfect scholar image has already collapsed. I suggest you stop making trouble. Otherwise, no one will be there to back you up."

"Who says that? I saved his life—that's crucial to him. He won't abandon me. He'll definitely help me!"

The phone transmitted her almost manic laughter.

"Well then, go find him. Why are you calling me?"

"If he'd answer my calls, why would I bother with you?" Sophie responded angrily, then seeming to realize her slip, changed tactics. "You know he won't abandon me, so let's meet and talk properly. Find a solution! You don't want me constantly appearing around you two, do you?"

"You can't even reach him, yet you're threatening me with him? Sophie, when did you become so stupid?"
