Chapter 336

Chapter 336

After a few seconds of silence, Sophie's shrill voice came through the phone again.

"Emily, don't you dare feel smug! If you don't come to my parents' house today, I promise you'll never see your mother again!"

Before Emily could respond, Sophie hung up.

Emily gripped her phone, her brows furrowed tightly.

Using Donna to threaten her?

Had Sophie truly become deranged enough to harm her own mother?

At the Laurent Villa, at ten o'clock, the sunshine was pleasant outside.

When Sophie saw Emily walk in, her smile was triumphant, even twisted. "So you came after all. I knew you couldn't abandon her."

"Just say what you want to say." Emily didn't want to waste time. She sat down on the sofa without even glancing at Sophie, discreetly surveying her surroundings.

"Watch your attitude!" Sophie was clearly provoked. "You're nothing but an unwanted orphan. What gives you the right to act superior around me?"

"Sophie." Emily looked at her coldly. "I've never wanted to compete with you for anything."

"Bullshit!" Sophie cut her off angrily. "If you hadn't been haunting us like a ghost, Alexander would never have broken our engagement. We should be married by now, maybe even have adorable children. It's you—you have no shame!"

She pointed at Emily, visibly agitated.

Emily didn't bother arguing against these baseless accusations.

She wasn't sure if Sophie was mentally unstable from all the pressure or if she truly believed what she was saying.

Either way, no amount of explanation would get through to her.

Rather than waste her breath, she might as well let Sophie rant.

"So?"

After letting Sophie finish her tirade, Emily spoke calmly. "Alexander has already made his choice..."

She paused, then clicked her tongue. "Actually, that's not quite right. He never chose you in the first place. The only reason he was ever kind to you was because he thought you were his savior. But were you really?"

Emily's gaze fell to Sophie's abdomen.

Though there was nothing to see, the knowing smile curving her lips gave the impression she could see through everything.

Sophie instinctively covered her abdomen. "Don't make things up. I saved Alexander—I took that knife for him!"

"Oh? Then where did the knife wound on my body come from?" Emily scoffed.

"That's from your promiscuous behavior..."

A loud slap echoed through the living room as Sophie's face was marked with a red handprint.

She seemed too shocked to react immediately. "You dared to slap me?"

"For spreading vicious lies, a slap is nothing," Emily replied coldly. "Sophie, I was too young back then. I thought the truth would speak for itself and let you control the narrative. But why did you assume I wouldn't grow up and fight back?"

"What do you mean?"

"That driver—if you could buy him off, it means he was motivated by money." Emily waved her hand, cutting off Sophie's question as she played a video on her phone.

It showed the man who had falsely claimed to be Emily's sugar daddy, now apologizing.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Ward. I lied about you."

"It was Ms. Ward who took the knife for Mr. Foster, but when Ms. Laurent arrived, she had me take Miss Ward to a different hospital and claimed she was the one who saved him."

The rest of the video didn't need to be heard—it was clear what had happened.

"Give me that! It's fake, all of it!" Sophie screamed, lunging to grab the phone.

Emily pulled it away and responded coolly, "What good would taking my phone do? The content isn't just on my device—it's been uploaded online. Try it yourself. Check your own phone?"

Her casual tone made Sophie completely unravel.

"Impossible! This can't be happening! Alexander won't believe it. Alexander..."

The door was suddenly kicked open as Alexander strode in.

He walked straight to Emily, concern evident in his eyes. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." She smiled slightly, then gestured with her phone. "Thanks for helping clear my name."

"I let you suffer too much." He sighed softly, then turned to Sophie with eyes cold enough to freeze. "Sophie, it's time you faced the consequences."

"Alexander, it's not like that."

Even at this point, Sophie refused to admit fault. "Emily... she bribed that man. How could I ever do something like that? We've known each other for years—you should understand me."

"I thought I did, but I was wrong all along. I never imagined you could be so venomous, doing all these things behind the scenes."

He looked at her with icy disdain. "All cooperation between the Foster Group and the Laurent Group is officially terminated."

"You—you can't do this to me!"

"Ms. Laurent, you're facing allegations of defamation, academic fraud, and intentional harm. Please come with us for questioning." The appearance of two law enforcement officers seemed to drain Sophie of all her remaining strength. She wailed, begging Alexander for help.

But he didn't even look at her, focusing all his attention on Emily instead.

"This time, I'll make sure she gets what she deserves. Even after she's released, she won't be allowed to stay in Bellevue. I'll never give her another chance to hurt you." His gaze was sincere, his words earnest, impossible to fake.

Emily looked at him, her lips pressed together as if wanting to say something but not knowing where to begin.

"I understand now. I didn't trust you enough before, which allowed all this to happen. From now on, no matter what comes up, I'll hear your side first before making any judgment. I won't be so easily misled again."

Their eyes met, emotions surging between them, ultimately transforming into the most intense feeling of all.

The girl who had captivated him at first sight in her youth—how could he ever forget?

She tried to smile, but tears fell first. "You promise?"

"Of course. I won't break my word again." He frantically wiped her tears, "Why are you crying again? I'm sorry—I'll never make you sad again."

"Alexander, remember what you said today. If you ever doubt me again, I really will leave you!"

"That won't happen." He pulled her into his embrace, as if afraid she might escape, almost trying to meld her into his very being. "You're the person I trust most. I'll never believe anything that slanders you."

They looked at each other and smiled through their tears, the emotion between them more genuine for it.

"Let's go home to the Foster Mansion." Alexander said.

Emily's expression changed slightly.

Everyone in the Foster family, except Eleanor, had treated her poorly.

Though she'd forgiven Alexander, she didn't want to repeat history by trying to please his family again.

He seemed to read her thoughts as he took her hand and led her out.

"Don't worry. You're my wife, the woman I've chosen to love for the rest of my life. I won't allow anyone to hurt you, not even my family. Leave everything to me. From now on, your only job is to be happy."

Emily felt her hand enveloped in his warm grasp, steady and reassuring, like their future—full of promise.

THE END.
