Chapter 621
Chapter 621
The office fell into an eerie silence. Henry stared at Zoey like she was an alien, like he was seeing her for the first time.
The sunlight outside gradually turned a deep orange, casting long shadows of the two of them.
"Eight companies," Henry muttered, quickly walking over to the office's smart panel to pull up Zoey's complete business profile. "Radiant Vision Entertainment, Stellar Media, Future Education... I know all these. But Mirage Studio? Quantum Cat Data Security? Blue Ocean Biotech?"
With each name he read, his voice grew louder, "Zoey, how many more things are you hiding from me?"
Zoey blinked innocently. "Didn't we list everything during the prenup?"
"There were twelve companies on that list!"
"I merged four of them later," Zoey explained softly, only to be pulled into a tight hug by Henry.
"Oh my God, who did I marry?" Henry whispered in her ear, his voice full of awe. "Can that VR project be integrated into Windsor Game Company? I know it's a big ask, but..."
Zoey laughed at Henry's reaction. "I was planning to gradually integrate these companies after the wedding. That studio is currently in the testing phase. If all goes well, by next month we should be able to..."
Zoey's words were cut off by a rapid knock on the door.
The office door opened a crack, and two furry little heads peeked in.
"Mom! Dad!" Travis shouted excitedly. "Grandma wants to know what we should wear to the amusement park tomorrow!"
Gabriel followed behind Travis, holding a tablet that displayed two outfits: one with a blue dinosaur pattern and the other with a red superhero design.
Henry let go of Zoey and squatted down to be at eye level with his sons. "Sorry, kids, but Mom and Dad have an important meeting at the game company tomorrow. We can't go to the amusement park."
"Game company?" Travis's eyes lit up, and he ran over to Henry. "You said you'd take me to the game company last time!"
Henry ruffled Travis's soft hair. "It is the game company, but tomorrow is a new game launch event. There will be a lot of adults, and it's not suitable for kids."
Travis's lips immediately pouted, and his big eyes filled with tears. "But I want to see the new game you made, Dad." He turned to Zoey, tugging at her sleeve. "Mom."
Zoey looked at Travis's pitiful expression and suddenly had an idea. Her eyes lit up.
She squatted down in the eye with Travis. "Do you really want to go that badly?"
Travis nodded vigorously, and Gabriel curiously leaned in as well.
"There might be a surprise," Zoey said mysteriously, glancing up at Henry. "Let them come. I'll have my assistant set up a kids' area backstage."
Henry saw the sparkle in Zoey's eyes and, though he didn't fully understand, he relented. "Alright, but you have to behave and not run around."
Travis cheered and threw his arms around Henry's neck. "You're the best, Dad!"
Gabriel, however, looked thoughtfully at Zoey. "Mom, can that game be controlled with your mind?"
Henry froze.
The details of this project had never been publicly disclosed, and only a select few at the Windsor Game Company knew about it.
"How do you know that?" Henry asked, astonished.
Gabriel pointed to Zoey's computer screen, which she hadn't had time to close. "It says 'Brain-Computer Interface Test Log.'"
He tilted his head, looking innocent. "Last week, I saw a video on Mom's tablet where people wore strange hats to play games without using their hands!"
Zoey sighed in relief and playfully pinched Gabriel's cheek. "You little rascal, snooping on Mom's files."
"Can we try it?" Travis was already jumping up and down in excitement. "I want to control a dinosaur with my mind!"
"The technology isn't quite there yet," Henry chuckled, lifting Travis high. "But there will be some really cool tech at the launch that you'll love."
With that promise, Gabriel and Travis ran out of the office, eager to tell Hazel about the change in plans.
Zoey watched the kids' excited retreat, a smile spreading across her face.
"What did you mean by 'surprise'?" Henry asked, closing the door behind them.
Zoey gave him a mysterious smile. "You'll find out soon enough."
The next day, Henry brought Zoey, Gabriel, and Travis to the Windsor Game Company.
The glass facade of the Windsor Game Company headquarters sparkled in the morning light, like a crystal palace.
Zoey held Gabriel and Travis's hands as they stood in front of the thirty-story building, each floor representing a branch of Henry's gaming empire.
"It's even bigger than I imagined," she whispered, feeling Travis's little hand wriggle with excitement in her palm.
Henry wrapped an arm around Zoey's shoulders, his voice brimming with pride. "The basement levels house the server center, floors 1-5 are the experience zones, and floors 6-20 are the development departments, divided by game type." He looked down at the eager Gabriel and Travis. "Where do you want to start?"
"The experience zone!" Travis immediately raised his hand, his eyes shining like little stars.
Gabriel, however, remained unusually silent, clutching Zoey's coat tightly.
Zoey noticed the change and squatted down to look Gabriel's eldest son in the eye, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Gabriel shook his head, his little brows still furrowed. "Mom, are the games here safe?"
Henry raised an eyebrow, surprised that four-year-old Gabriel would ask such a question. "Of course they're safe. All the equipment has been rigorously tested."
Gabriel seemed to want to say something, but was interrupted by Travis's excited shout.
Travis had already let go of Zoey's hand and was bouncing towards the entrance. "I want to play the dinosaur battle!"
They entered the spacious, bright lobby, greeted by a massive electronic wall displaying the most popular characters from the Windsor Game Company's games.
The department heads were lined up, waiting. When they saw Henry, they greeted him respectfully.
"Everyone, this is Zoey," Henry said, looking around at the group, his arm naturally resting around Zoey's waist. "My fiancée and the founder of Mirage Studio."
The executives exchanged surprised glances. Who in the industry hadn't heard of the mysterious Mirage Studio? Last year, their VR gloves had made a splash at the international tech expo.
Zoey nodded gracefully. "It's a pleasure to meet you all. In the future, our VR technology will be gradually integrated into the Windsor Game Company's gaming system. I look forward to working with you."
