Chapter 42 Make it official
Chapter 42 Make it official
Abby
I felt so helpless seeing Grace in this messy situation. I want to do more but there’s nothing I can do. The only option in my head is eloping but she loves her family so much and wouldn’t risk abandoning them.
As much as I believe her parents caused this, especially her dad, I also believe they didn’t know it would take such turn. They probably felt they were getting their problem solved while giving their daughter a lovely home. They couldn’t have know that Matt is an asshole. I mean, no one could have guessed. He seemed like the perfect man for every woman and a lot of them want him. If Grace hadn’t told me all about him, I never would have believed he was capable of such.
“Your dress is so beautiful, you’re going to look so great in it.” I let out when we got back to the house.
“I know right,” Grace replied with a gentle smile.
“Come here,” I retorted and then pulled her into a hug.
I wrapped my arms around her tightly and didn’t let go till I was sure she was a bit relaxed. I know a lot of things would be running through her mind but she was trying to be strong and chest it all.
“I’m here for you, huh? And everything is going to be okay. You will be okay, Grace. I promise.” I whispered to her and she nodded.
“I’m just going to lay down for a while.” She replied and the got in the bed.
I didn’t want to disturb her so I left the room and went to the kitchen to make something for us.
I had just started chopping the vegetables when my phone started ringing. I checked and seeing it was Ryan, I found myself blushing but I quickly wiped it off my face as I answered the call.
“Hey,” I let out, rolling my eyes like I wasn’t just blushing.
“Hey beautiful,” he replied and I blushed again.
Ryan is one of my colleagues at work, we both met on our first day at the company and it wasn’t pleasant at first. The company only wanted two out of the ten new intakes so we were all on probation. We were all trying to outperform one another so we couldn’t be friends.
Ryan was one heck of a competitor, he was so intentional about his work and didn’t give the room for fun at all. That made me dislike him but after everything, I realized I didn’t like him because I was threatened by his work rate. I knew with him in the mix, the standard was really high.
The probation was finally over and it wasn’t a surprise that Ryan was chosen. What surprised everyone even including me was finding out I was the other person. Only Ryan and I got the job and that changed our relationship.
We went from being competitors to being friends and then catching feelings for each other but living in denial.
“I’m good, you?” I asked
“I’m good too. I’ve got some files for you, your team lead wants you to work on them and he says you might be presenting them.” He replied and I rolled my eyes again. I took the day off work so I could be with Grace. I didn’t want her to be alone, at least not before the wedding.
“Alright then, how do I get them?” I asked.
“Well, I could send them to your email but I’d like to see your beautiful face so I’ll just come over. I will be leaving the office in about ten minutes so expect to see this handsome man soon.” He teased and I couldn’t resist laughing.
“You’re just a clown!” I teased too.
“You know you want to see me so stop pretending you don’t want to.” He replied and we both laughed it off.
We soon hung up and I quickly finished up with the vegetables. I hurried into the room and dashed into the closet. I wanted to changed into something else. Some simple but sexy enough to have him drooling all over me.
I scanned through the dresses and finally settled on one. It looked really simple but standing in front of the mirror, and seeing how it sat pretty on my body, I couldn’t stop blushing. I could already imagine what his reaction would be like when I open the door and he sees me.
“What’s going on? Going somewhere?” Grace suddenly voiced out behind me. I turned around and saw her eyes wide open.
“You’re up already? I thought you were sleeping.” I let out while she shot me a suspicious look.
“Hmmmn… why does it seem like you desperately want me asleep? What are you up to?” She teased and I laughed.
“What are you even saying right now?! Of course, I’m not up to anything. Ryan is coming over to drop off some files for me. That’s all.” I explained and she chuckled.
“Ohh… Ryan is coming over to the house and you rushed to changed into a hot dress? Love is definitely in the air!” She exclaimed and then started laughing, making me blush at the thought. I tried really hide to control myself and stop blushing but I just couldn’t.
“Well I thought Ryan is the only clown in my life, I guess my best friend is also a clown then. Because there’s absolutely no love in the air. We are work colleagues and that’s all.” I quickly debunked but she just burst into another round of laughter.
“You can deny it from now till forever but we both know you love Ryan and he definitely loves you too. That man is in love with you and I really need you both to stop pretending and just make it official already.” She exclaimed. I blushed again but I quickly got it together.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ll be in the kitchen if you need me.” I chimed in and before she could taunt me further, I hurried out of the room. I could hear her laugh and I also was but I didn’t stop. I was afraid I was going to admit to it and confess my undying love…
