Chapter 38 Moving on…

Chapter 38 Moving on…
Grace
I felt so relieved after spending time with Rosey. She made me see things from a new perspective and by the time the driver was driving me back home, I was ready to speak to my parents.
“Oh my darling, I’m so happy you called.” My dad let out excitedly once he answered the phone.
“It’s okay, what is it that you want to tell me?” I asked.
“There’s a lot I want to tell you but not over the phone. Please come home, darling. Your mom and I miss you so much.” He replied and I smirked.
Maybe they do miss me but this isn’t about that. They are just using it as a cover and I wasn’t about to start another back and forth.
“Okay then.” I simply said and then hung up.
I got home and was surprised to see a car already waiting for me. Abby came out then and we both shared a knowing glance.
“Your dad sent the car over to pick you up.” She retorted and I rolled my eyes.
“I called him on my way here and agreed to home home. I didn’t ask for this though.” I replied and she nodded.
“That’s okay. He probably just doesn’t want you stressing over it.” She chimed in.
“Aren’t you getting your things?” She asked when she saw I was about to hop into the car.
“I’m not staying for long, I will soon be back.” I simply and then got in.
She stood there and watched as we drove off. I was watching her too and I almost changed my mind at a point but I didn’t.
I finally got home and wasn’t surprised to see my parents waiting to welcome me. They seemed so happy to see me, especially my mom. She pulled me into a tight warm hug and that almost melt off my anger and hurt.
“It’s so nice to see you again. I miss you so much, we really do.” She chimed in and I forced out a smile.
“Let’s go eat, I had them prepare your favorite.” My dad finally stepped in, pulling us from the sweet moment.
“I’m not hungry at the moment. I just ate before coming. I think we should just talk now.” I countered and they both looked at each other.
“Are you sure you’re ready to do that now? Matt told us everything that happened at the house.” My dad replied pitifully and I couldn’t help but chuckle.
“I can’t even believe you two right now. I mean, are you being serious? You’re really going to pretend like this isn’t all your fault? You guys literally sold me off to the highest bidder and you have the audacity to play pretense right now?!” I slammed at them and they still had the shock expressed on their faces.
“Gosh! Will you guys just drop the act already?!” I added angrily.
“Calm down baby,” my mom caved first but I was already so pissed off that I yanked off her hand when she tried to hold me.
“I can’t calm down mom. Imagine how bad I felt hearing how my own parents sold me off while lying to my face. Matt made a lot of accusations and I really thought he was lying but seeing as how you two are still lying to my face even now makes me believe it’s all true. You two are everything he called you!” I slammed hard at them again.
“Yes, it’s true, darling. I don’t know the exact details he told you but if it’s about the family being bankrupt, then it’s true.” My dad finally confessed.
I already knew it was true but a part of me was really hoping Matt was only bluffing. Seeing I was wrong really broke my heart. I sank into the couch behind me and tears poured down my face.
“Please don’t cry, this is all my fault and you know I hate to see you cry. I made some bad decisions at work. I invested in the wrong business in a moment of desperation and that one decision landed the company in trouble. If the news gets out, we’d have to file for bankruptcy and not just that. I would be charged of embezzlement and there’s no way I’m getting out of it. That’s why we had no other choice than to agree to the arranged marriage when the Hayes were going to help.” He explained.
I finally understood why they did what they did because I mean, I never would want my dad in jail no matter the situation. As a matter of fact, I’d do anything just to get him out of the mess. I just didn’t appreciate being kept in the dark and then sold off like I didn’t even matter.
“But why didn’t you tell me though? You think I would sit by and watch everything you worked for collapse? I would have agreed to the marriage myself and maybe I wouldn’t have had my heart broken when Matt decided to rub it in my face.” I let out.
“We didn’t want you to worry, my love. We thought we had it all on control and believe me, we were going to tell you eventually. We just wanted everything to work out first.” My mom chimed in and I nodded even though I didn’t accept their reason. I wasn’t ready to accept it.
“So what’s the way forward? What do you plan to do now that the wedding is off?” I asked and they both looked at each other again. I immediately knew they were again scheming something that I know nothing about.
“The wedding is still on, Grace. We confirmed it this morning.” My dad replied and I chuckled but before I could say a word, my mom stepped in.
“Matt offered a final deal which is that the wedding goes on in a week and everyone stays silent or your dad goes to jail.” my mom slowly replied…
