Chapter 35 I’m not ready, Abby
Chapter 35 I’m not ready, Abby
Grace
“It’s me, Grace! Open the door!” I let out and then knocked on Abby’s door again.
After everything that went down at Matt’s house, I couldn’t bear to stay another second so I ran upstairs, grabbed a few things I could lay my hands on and then vanished.
I didn’t even know where I was going, I just wanted to be out of that house so fast. It was when I got in my ride that I finally thought of Abby.
Of course, she’s the only one I can go to in this situation. I mean, my parents don’t seem like the people I grew up to know. If everything Matt said was true, then that only means they’ve fooled me all these years. I know there was something attached to their sudden request for an arranged marriage but I never thought it was because of their own selfish reasons. I mean, who sells off their only child for money.
“Oh my goodness, what happened to you?” Abby exclaimed as she opened the door and saw the state I was in.
I had cried all through the drive to her house and my face was all swollen up. My hair was disheveled and I looked like a mess.
“Can I just go in?” I asked softly while she quickly stepped aside so I could go in. She locked the door and ran after me.
I sunk in the sofa and burst into tears again. She then came beside and just stared at me without saying a word. That’s just how she is, she’d let me express my emotions and only ask for details when she’s sure I’m okay.
I cried my heart out and when I was finally down, I leaned forward, ready to let it all out.
“Want to talk now?” She asked gently while I nodded.
“I think the marriage is off,” I let out while her eyes lit up in shock.
“Oh my goodness! What happened?!” She asked.
“It’s a long story, I don’t even know where of how to start explaining it all. I feel so ashamed. I’m such an idiot, Abby. I let myself get played like a fool.” I said in a shaky tone as I was trying to control myself and stop the tears which were fast welling up in my eyes. She saw this and then held my hands.
“You’re not an idiot, Grace and certainly not a fool. I don’t know what happened yet but I’ve known you all my life and I know you’re nothing like those nasty names you called yourself.” She reassured me and I really needed that.
I went ahead and told her everything that happened. I started right from the engagement night when I ran into Theo and slept with him. I didn’t leave any part out and she didn’t interrupt me either. She just sat there and listened.
“Wow, this is so messed up honestly. I’m so dumbfounded. I don’t even know what to say at this point.” She finally said while I leaned back and stared blankly at her.
“I’m just as clueless as you, Abby. I don’t know what to do but I don’t think I want to go ahead with the wedding anymore. They all threw in the middle and played me anyhow. I can’t even believe my own parents would do such. I mean, why lie to ne when they could have just come clean in the first place. It really breaks my heart.” I let out and I could feel the hurt consume me all over again.
“I know right. I feel the same way too. If you weren’t the one telling me this yourself, I never would have believed. They never should have lied. There was absolutely no need for it. But do you think Matt would agree to call out the wedding? He and his family stand to gain so much from it and I doubt they’d want to lose all that.” Abby replied.
“I’ve thought about that and I’m yet to get any solution. I’m so tired, Abby. I didn’t wish for any of this.” I chimed in while she moved closer and hugged me.
“That’s alright. You don’t have to have it all figured out right now. I’m just happy you’re okay. We are in this together and we will find a solution together, huh?” She assured me again and I just needed.
“Okay then, enough of those silly people getting my best friend all worked up. I’m in charge now!” She exclaimed and I burst into laughter. It was so relieving and I felt calm for the first time since the drama started.
“I love that. I want more of that please. Now, I want you to go into the room and freshen up while I get you something to eat. Don’t argue, just do as I say.” She said firmly. She already knew I was going to argue at first which was why she added the last part.
I didn’t say a word too, I just got up and marched into the room. I stripped naked, got under the shower and scrubbed my whole body thoroughly.
By the time I was done, I felt so much calmer and Abby was also in the room with a food tray.
“How did you manage to prepare all that so quickly?” I asked while she winked at me.
“I’m not revealing my tricks even if you wave a magic wand in my face.” She teased and we both laughed.
“Come sit,” she said and just before I started eating, my phone started ringing. I grabbed it and saw my dad’s face lit up the screen. I dropped it and Abby took it to check who the caller was since I wouldn’t say.
“I think you should answer the call and atleast hear what he has to say. They love probably been informed and want to make things right.” She persuaded me but I just wasn’t in the mood.
“Wow, this is so delicious, tell me, did you really make this?” I quizzed after tasting the pasta.
“Really? You’re ignoring me?” She let out while I shrugged, pretending I didn’t hear what she said.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, I’m just here, eating like you asked me to.” I replied and she playfully smacked me, making me laugh while trying to dodge her.
“Answer the phone, Grace. He’s calling again.” She said and I pretended to agree. I took the phone from her but I turned if off instead and then threw it to the sofa on the other side of the room.
“I’m not ready, Abby.” I muttered…
