Chapter 526 Winning the Old Fox
Chapter 526 Winning the Old Fox
Aaron showed Declan the evidence on his phone.
"Dad, y-you're Coach? H-how is this possible?" Aaron was trying his best to feign surprise.
Before Declan could reply, he accused further, "Dad, did you know who I was even before this? And you didn't even tell me. Y-you're so mean! This is unacceptable! How could you lie to me? Why would you lie to me? You must've seen me as a joke!"
Freya folded her arms and leaned back to enjoy the show between the two foxes.
Declan took the phone from Aaron's hands, frowning.
Then, he turned toward Aaron with a seemingly aggrieved expression in his eyes.
Aaron was dumbfounded.
He blinked.
"Shouldn't you know best why I kept quiet about it?" Declan smiled self-deprecatingly.
Aaron gulped nervously, doing his best to maintain his composure. He replied, "What? I-I don't know what you're talking about."
Freya was watching the scene in amusement.
She kept quiet and continued to watch the show.
Declan told Aaron, "Just as you didn't know I was your coach, I didn't know I was talking to you either."
He paused before continuing, "By the time I knew I was talking to you, you've already contacted your coach--which is me--to scheme against your dad, also known as me."
Declan sighed to show his disappointment. "How was I supposed to tell you my true identity under those circumstances?"
He patted Aaron's shoulders. "I was afraid that you'd feel guilty after I tell you the truth."
Meanwhile, Hope was resting her chin on her hand as she listened to their conversation.
She greatly empathized with Declan. "Daddy, you're so amazing! You are the best
daddy in the entire world!"
Freya pressed her lips together to stifle her laughter.
She thought,
Freya sighed because she felt bad for her poor son.
Of course, Declan's intention was good. He was worried that Aaron would be sucked in by the extremities of the internet and wanted to keep a close watch as an identity of a stranger.
However, he said that he was worried Aaron would feel guilty? That's a bunch of bull.>
Though Freya had figured it out, Aaron was still perplexed. He seemed as if he was truly taken aback by his father's upset expression.
Not only was he beginning to empathize with his father, he even felt remorseful. "Daddy..." Aaron lowered his head. "I'm sorry. It's all my fault."
...
Declan replied, "You're my son. How can I be mad at you?"
Hope looked at Declan with admiring eyes. "Daddy is such a big-hearted man. He isn't petty at all. Daddy must be the best man on Earth!"
Aaron had been moved as well. He raised his head with a look of admiration.
Freya only wanted to call out Declan for being so pretentious.
She continued to observe them calmly like she was merely an audience.
Declan poured a cup of juice for Hope, then placed a card in front of Aaron. "This is your commission for the tasks you completed yesterday."
Freya's eyes lit up.
While Aaron was staring at the gold card, he subconsciously tightened his fists.
It was obvious that he was in a dilemma.
"No!" Aaron gritted his teeth and pushed the card back to Declan. "Keep it!"
With her head lowered, Freya ate her pasta to conceal her smile.
It was just yesterday that Declan said he would make Aaron his free labor. Who knew it would come true today?>
However, to her surprise, it was not the finale yet.
Declan held Aaron's wrist and looked him straight in the eyes. "Open your hands."
His tone was stern.
Aaron was stunned. Several seconds later, he dubiously spread out his palm.
Declan placed the card in Aaron's hand and said in a tone that allowed no rebuttal, "Take it."
Aaron was at a loss.
"This is the capital that I'm giving you; there's a seven-figure sum in it. Will you be able to double it in a year? If you can, then take it," Declan said. "It doesn't matter how you earn the money as long as it's legal. As for the profits, we'll split seven to three. You'll take seven, and I'll take three."
Aaron's eyes suddenly lit up. "Really? You're not joking, are you?"
Declan narrowed his eyes. "When have I ever deceived you?"
"Daddy, I love you!" Aaron yelled as he grasped the card tightly in his hand.
Aaron thought,
Declan gladly accepted Aaron's words of affection. He smiled as he exchanged a look with Freya.
Freya was in awe of Declan's ability to exploit the people around him.
Her naive son had been deceived by his own father into being a money-making machine.
Freya almost wanted to worship Declan.
While the children went to the bathroom, she took the opportunity to lean across the table.
"You're horrible, Declan Castle. You even exploit your own son. How could I ever dare to provoke you in the future?"
They were merely inches away from each other.
Abruptly, Declan grabbed her chin and sealed her lips with his.
His face was gentle as he said, "That's why I'm a capitalist. There's no one I won't exploit. However..." He paused, stroking her face. "Everyone has a weakness."
