Chapter 23 Hidden for Three Years
Elena wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes and stood up. After thinking for a moment, she told Lilian with certainty, "The 26th, next Wednesday."
"Did Hillary ask you to help me with all the fashion shows and endorsements?" Lilian guessed.
"Yes..."
"Write down every detail and save every email from our partners as evidence. I'll need them next Wednesday," Lilian calmly instructed. "If you have any judgment at all, you should know that following me will lead to a better future than following Hillary."
After hearing what Lilian said, Elena suddenly had a guess in her mind: why was Hillary having so many problems lately while Lilian's popularity was increasing? Throughout this journey, Hillary relied on playing the victim to gain sympathy while Lilian...she stepped on Hillary and came back to life.
After weighing the pros and cons, Elena decided to follow Lilian. "I'll prepare everything for you," she said.
Lilian nodded but before leaving, she turned around and warned Elena: "If you can't handle crisis PR well enough, don't do anything that will make me look bad." In other words: if you can't avoid being caught by paparazzi then don't go around flirting with others.
Elena's face turned pale; it was her first time encountering an artist who could plan their own future without showing any emotions like this. It seemed that besides seducing men, Hillary really didn't have any other skills - she would just wait until Rainer Entertainment was taken over by Lilian.
Leaving the company early still gave them some time left in their day. When they got into the car again Sylvia noticed how tired-looking Lilian appeared: “Did Brent break up with you?”
“Brent suggested we break up,” replied Lillian calmly as she leaned her head back against the seat, closing her eyes slowly as if she didn't want to show any emotions. “Sylvia, do you know what he said? He spoke so casually about it, like reading from a textbook.”
“He even wants to hide me for three years.”
“That scumbag is shameless! Isn't he afraid of being struck by lightning?” Sylvia cursed angrily while gently stroking Lilian's arm. "Don't be upset over such a man; sooner or later you'll get your revenge on him tenfold."
“I'm not yet at the point where I can control my emotions well enough. Please take me home,” Lilian pleaded softly.
“Okay...rest up then.”
Brent's cold-heartedness was definitely more than just making her pick up trash cans. Lilian knew that as long as Hillary opened her mouth, Brent could do something even more outrageous - she had to block Hillary completely and prevent any interference in her life.
When Kevin returned home at eight o'clock in the evening, he didn't smell any food cooking but instead felt an eerie silence throughout their apartment. At first, he thought that Lilian hadn't come back yet but when he entered their bedroom, he found Lilian lying quietly on the bed looking like she had been wronged.
Kevin sat down beside the bed and when Lilian sensed his familiar presence, she immediately sat up and hugged him tightly.
"If you want to cry then go ahead and cry; it will make you feel better," Kevin comforted while patting Lillian's shoulder gently.
Lilian had been holding back all this time but with Kevin's comforting words and gentle touch, all of her grievances came pouring out: "I'm sorry; I promised you that I wouldn't cry over things that aren't worth it..."
"It's okay to cry...besides me who else can you be yourself around?" Kevin encouraged Lillian. Perhaps it was because Kevin's touch was too gentle or maybe it was because of the mature security that came from being seven years older than her, but Lilian cried in his arms for a long time until she couldn't cry anymore.
"Are you feeling better now?" Kevin asked."Okay." Lilian stepped out of Kevin's embrace. "You must be hungry, I'll go make something to eat..."
However, Kevin didn't do anything else. He grabbed Lilian's chin and kissed her deeply, not only taking away the salty taste from her lips but also soothing the sadness and pain in her heart with his unique breath.
Kissing is the best medicine for healing and pain relief. The two of them kissed passionately, gasping for air.
"Lilian, I hope that no matter whether you're sad or happy, you can let me know first. I don't care how many masks you wear outside, but when we come home we should be honest with each other as ordinary spouses. We should only be what each other needs." Kevin wiped away the tears on Lilian's cheeks and stood up. "I've said it before: You're not allowed to enter the kitchen."
Lilian stopped him by grabbing his hand as he turned around. "I need you now; I need you to accompany me, hold me tight and kiss me..."
"And kissing requires strength," he replied.
Lilian dried her tears and got out of bed under the covers while holding Kevin's hand tightly. "Then let me accompany you..."
The couple had a warm dinner together followed by a simple bath before returning to bed where Kevin read some materials while Lilian tried to fall asleep but couldn't.
"What's wrong?"
"I can't sleep; please read something to me," she begged with her head poking out from under the covers.
Only in front of Kevin was she not calm like water nor cool-headed like she was in front of Sylvia; instead she became completely submissive like a little wife who needed affection from him.
Of course, in front of Lilian, Kevin wasn't himself either - if it were any other subordinate he would have thrown documents at their face long ago. But because it was Lilian, he casually picked up a book from the shelf and returned to bed, holding her in his arms as they read together.
This was just a very simple little thing, but the scum who used to work at an 18th-tier workshop could never do this for her; instead it was the king of entertainment who was willing to try this most boring thing for her.
The scars in their hearts were gradually healed and Lilian soon fell asleep in Kevin's embrace...and had a sweet dream all night long.
The next morning, there was a slight dampness in the air when Lilian woke up due to Elena's phone call. Her tone was gentler than yesterday: "Lilian, I just went to your apartment but only your assistant is there."
"I moved out."
"I wanted to tell you that after Mr. Hart announced that you would be hosting a commercial platform, you faced great resistance..."
"What's Hillary's attitude?" Lilian asked Elena directly.
"She wants nothing more than to see you suffer. She suggested that you take on this commercial platform not only to suppress you but also make your life miserable."
"Then let's wait until next Wednesday and see who will be miserable," Lilian replied meaningfully. "For now we don't need to worry about our fans; let them curse us!"
