Chapter 247 The Fruit of Life
Chapter 247 The Fruit of Life
Lily's POV
The warm weight of the resurrection fruit in my hands felt like holding captured starlight.
Everyone followed me toward the mansion in stunned silence. Even Elder Thornwood, who'd called me delusional minutes ago, walked behind me with the reverence of a man witnessing a miracle.
The glowing fruit pulsed against my chest, its ethereal light casting dancing shadows across the mansion's walls. Each pulse seemed to sync with my heartbeat, as if the Moon Goddess herself was guiding my steps.
I could barely stay upright. Blood loss was making the world spin, but nothing would stop me now.
"Iris," I called softly as we approached the main entrance. "Eleanor. I need your help."
Both women immediately flanked me, their strong arms supporting my trembling frame. "We're with you, sweetheart," Eleanor whispered.
Iris's voice was thick with emotion. "Let's bring him home."
The mansion felt different as we entered. The grief that had saturated these walls for days seemed to lift slightly, as if the very air sensed what was about to happen.
Gabriel's coffin sat in the main parlor, surrounded by hundreds of white roses that had begun to wilt. But the moment I stepped into the room with the resurrection fruit, the flowers straightened, their petals regaining color.
Even the fucking flowers knew something miraculous was happening.
"Help me open it," I whispered, approaching the ornate mahogany coffin.
Iris and Eleanor moved to the heavy lid without hesitation. Together, we lifted it carefully, revealing Gabriel's peaceful form within.
He looked exactly as beautiful as the day he'd died.
His dark hair was perfectly arranged, his strong jaw relaxed in eternal sleep. Someone had dressed him in his finest black suit, the one he'd worn at my ceremony.
He looked like a prince waiting for true love's kiss.
My breath caught in my throat as I reached out to touch his face. His skin was cold as marble, but still so familiar beneath my fingertips.
"Come back to me," I whispered, my voice breaking. "Please, Gabriel. Come back to me."
Behind me, I heard the soft sounds of people gathering. The entire household had followed us inside, along with the visiting Alphas and council members.
But I only had eyes for my mate.
I held the glowing resurrection fruit above Gabriel's lips, feeling its pulsing energy against my palms. The surface was smooth as silk, warm as summer sunshine.
"This is it," I breathed. "Moon Goddess, please let this work."
I pressed the fruit gently against Gabriel's closed lips.
The moment it touched him, the fruit began to dissolve like morning mist. Liquid light flowed between his lips, disappearing into his mouth in streams of silver radiance.
The fruit melted completely, every drop of its essence flowing into Gabriel's still form.
For several heartbeats, nothing happened.
The silence in the room was suffocating. Even the sound of breathing seemed muted.
I stared at Gabriel's face, searching desperately for any sign of change. "Please," I whispered. "Please work."
Then I saw it.
The faintest rise of his chest.
My heart exploded with hope as I watched his ribcage expand slightly, then contract. Another breath. Then another.
"Oh my God," Eleanor gasped behind me.
Gabriel's eyelids fluttered. Just a tiny movement, but unmistakable.
I grabbed his cold hand, squeezing it desperately.
"Gabriel? Can you hear me?"
His eyelids fluttered again, and this time they stayed open.
Those familiar dark brown eyes, clouded with confusion but undeniably alive, looked up at me.
"Lily...?" His voice was barely a whisper, hoarse from death's silence.
I burst into tears, leaning over to cradle his face in my hands.
"Welcome back," I sobbed. "Welcome back, my love."
The parlor erupted.
"GABRIEL!" Iris screamed, pushing forward to grab her brother's hand.
Eleanor was sobbing openly, her composed demeanor completely shattered. "My boy... my sweet boy..."
Lucas let out a whoop of pure joy that echoed through the mansion. "He's alive! Holy shit, he's actually alive!"
Even the visiting Alphas who'd condemned me as delusional were staring in shock.
Benjamin's voice cracked completely: "Impossible. This is medically impossible."
Dr. Harrison stood frozen, his scientific worldview crumbling before his eyes. "He was dead. Clinically dead. I examined him myself."
But Gabriel was struggling to sit up, very much alive.
I helped support him as he rose from the coffin, his movements weak but determined. His eyes never left my face, filled with confusion and growing understanding.
"What happened?" he asked hoarsely. "I remember... Silas and Vince. Silas pierced my heart... Then nothing."
I could feel his strength slowly returning as the resurrection fruit's magic worked through his system.
"You died," I told him simply. "But I wasn't willing to let you go."
His gaze dropped to my blood-stained clothes, taking in my pale complexion and trembling hands. Understanding dawned in his brown eyes.
"Lily... what did you do?"
I felt my knees giving way as blood loss finally caught up with me.
Gabriel caught me before I could fall, his arms wrapping around me protectively. Even weakened from resurrection, his wolf strength was already returning.
"She bled herself nearly to death growing resurrection fruit," Ethan explained, his voice filled with awe. "Created an impossible hybrid flower that shouldn't exist."
Gabriel's face went white with horror and gratitude. "You could have died."
"But I didn't," I whispered against his chest. "And neither did you."
I could feel the bond between us flaring back to life, stronger than ever.
Gabriel pulled back to look at me, his eyes shining with tears. "I can feel it... your life force. Part of you is inside me now."
The resurrection fruit had bound us together even more deeply than our original mating bond.
"There's someone you need to meet," I said softly.
Emma stepped forward, cradling our crying son in her arms. The baby's wails had grown louder when he sensed his father's return.
Gabriel's face transformed with wonder as Emma placed our child in his arms.
Our son immediately quieted, recognizing his father's scent and presence.
"He has your eyes," Gabriel whispered, tears streaming down his face. "Our little miracle."
The sight of Gabriel holding our baby for the first time made my heart feel complete. Our family was whole again.
But the blood loss was hitting me hard now. The adrenaline that had carried me through the resurrection was fading fast.
Gabriel noticed immediately, shifting our son to one arm while wrapping the other around my waist. "Lily, you're shaking."
"Just tired," I murmured, leaning heavily against him. "Lost a lot of blood."
Dr. Harrison stepped forward tentatively, his earlier hostility replaced by professional concern. "Luna, you need immediate medical attention. Blood transfusion, IV fluids—"
"Later," I said firmly. "First, I want to enjoy having my mate back."
Gabriel pressed a gentle kiss to my forehead, his lips warm against my skin. "Thank you," he whispered. "For everything. For bringing me back. For giving me our son."
Behind us, the crowd was still processing what they'd witnessed.
Elder Thornwood's voice was shaken: "The Moon Goddess... she actually answered."
Benjamin nodded slowly, his skepticism completely destroyed. "I've never seen anything like it. Modern medicine can't explain this."
"Maybe some things don't need explanation," Victor said quietly. "Maybe faith is enough."
I smiled weakly, feeling Gabriel's strength supporting me.
Our family was complete. Our pack was safe. And the Moon Goddess had proven that love truly could conquer death.
Gabriel was home.
