Chapter 8
Danyun caught her as she fell on Antonio. He scooped her up and carried her to the sofa, where he sat down and settled her on his lap.
Her eyes were glazed and dull as if a Ramphan snake had drained all her energy.
He brushed his thumb across her cheek. The skin felt cool. A mild spark of her energy touched him. Helping that human must have drained her of most of her powers. His fingers moved up to tangled in her short black curls. He never thought a woman, a witch no less, would mean so much to him. Seeing the Gauldor’s arms around her, made his blood freeze over. Bile had filled his throat. It took every ounce of will he possessed to prevent himself from rushing to the demon and impaling it with his sword. Only fear for Chandra’s safety had kept him frozen in place.
He couldn’t deny the truth to himself any longer. He was in love with her. Danyun leaned closer and rubbed his nose on hers, inhaling the sweet smell of flowers and her natural musk. “Chandra, wake up. You have to wake up.”
She groaned. Her eyes remained close as she turned her head away from him. “Not yet, Mom. Give me one more minute.”
The muscles in his jaw clenched as he perused her face. He wondered who this ‘Mom’ person was. It had better not be a romantic person. “No, Chandra.” He shook her shoulder. “You must wake up now.”
She peeked through the slit of her lids. “Am I late for work?” She sat up. “Oh, no.” Her eyes opened wide. “I’m late for work.”
His arms tightened around her. “What is this work business?”
She breathed a sigh. “I forgot.” She relaxed her body on his. “It’s Saturday.”
“Witch, you are making my head spin.”
Chandra leaned back. A twinkle sparkled in the depths of her brown eyes. She caressed his face. “My head began to spin the moment I slammed into you, and you demanded that I send you home.”
For some reason, the way she spoke to him softened something in him. She spoke as if she…
“What are you telling me?”
She wrapped her arms around his neck. “I’m telling you that I feel the same.” She brushed her lips against his. The strong electrical charge moving through him shocked him. Every glanced of his mouth on hers increased the current. Instead of retreating from its intensity, she moved closer and moaned as she deepened the kiss.
Swept up by her taste and the smell of her sweet floral scent, he groaned. He combed his fingers through her curls, his tongue sucking and savoring her essence. Lack of oxygen pressed him to lift his head up for air. After several deep breaths, he said, “Will you come…” He hesitated for a moment. “…with me?”
Her index finger traced over his lips. “To where?”
“To my world—our world.”
A big smile transformed her face until her gaze sparkled again, this time with mischief. “Yes, I’ll go with you on two conditions.”
“What is it?” He stroked her back.
“First, I want to know if I am really a Fenarian.”
“Done. I’ll take you to them. Their sorceress will have the answers you seek.”
Her lips widened further. “Second, you have to come back here with me occasionally. I don’t think I can live forever without Swiss or French chocolate. And of course, I have to get the latest fashion.”
Danyun’s fingers roamed across her shoulders and her back. Her demands left him perplexed. “You are a witch. Whatever you desire, you can conjure it up.”
“Really?” She ran her nimble fingers up and down his chest.
His heart jumped at her touch.
“That’s too easy.” She tugged the ties of the robe. Her lashes lowered, transforming her expression to one of seduction. “I love unwrapping gifts.” Her head dipped so her cheeks could brush against his pecks. In slow sweeping movements, she kissed a line down his stomach. “It’s more…” Her mouth worked its way back to his lips. She stood, then proceeded to remove his robe. “…satisfying.”
Her tongue tangled with his. His cock jerked to full arousal. He groaned and reached for her shirt. The sounds of a moan behind her halted his progress. Danyun looked over her shoulder.
Antonio’s head moved.
“Your ex is waking up.” Danyun nodded toward the man on the floor.
She bused her mouth on his. “Let me get rid of him, then we can finish.”
In less than a half an hour, she sent Antonio on his way with several boxes. It surprised Danyun when Antonio left the apartment on fast feet.
As soon as Chandra was in his arms and they were under the covers on her bed, he interrogated her. “What did you do? Your ex acted as if hellhounds were after him.”
“They might have been.” She giggled.
His face must had reflected the confusion because she said, “I told him that if he didn’t leave immediately that I would sic you on him.”
“What does sic mean?”
She chuckled, a rich seductive laugh that pulled his heartstring. “It means I used you to threaten him to leave.”
“You can use me anytime you want.” His lips kissed a trail down her neck.
“Really?” she responded in a breathless whisper.
“Yes.”
She wrapped her arms around his neck, and for the rest of the weekend she did more than use him. She taught him about her favorite things in the world: to use electronics, to post on social media and to eat junk foods. He showed her how to open portals, he told her about the different inhabitant planets around Clairtera, and he promised to take her to visit his favorite places.
The future looked brighter, knowing that Chandra would share it with him.
