Chapter 170: The Wedding Part II
Chapter 170: The Wedding Part II
Kenneth's POV
Everyone had formed a large circle in the hall, waiting for the bride and groom. They turned as soon as we entered hand in hand. Gasps filled the room, followed by rapid camera clicks. I knew the attention was on Lucy’s elegance—and, of course, our outfits.
They parted to let us into the center of the dance floor, and we danced to a Nigerian song that took everyone by storm. But I wasn’t prepared for what came next.
My jaw dropped as I froze, watching my bride boogie to the “Buga” song I had been hearing everywhere lately.
How and when did she even learn those moves? I wondered. Being half Nigerian, I had no clue how to do traditional dances. It suddenly dawned on me—her secret meetings with my mother over the past month had all been for this.
I couldn’t move. My eyes were locked on my stunning wife and Queen as she bent low, rose high, and jiggled her waist like a true Nigerian bride—capturing the hearts of every male present.
Jealousy surged through me, and Zeus rumbled within as I noticed the adoring looks thrown her way. I wanted to gouge out the eyes of those young lions filled with lust for what was mine.
Lance was, of course, one of them. He had barely accepted that Lucy wasn’t his mate and had kept his distance, but he never hid the fact that he had fallen for her. If he hadn’t been King Pontionne’s son, I would have killed him long ago for those lustful stares.
“Roarrr!”
I couldn’t restrain Zeus anymore. A frightening roar escaped me as I glared at one of the young men I didn’t even recognize. Everyone stilled—including my bride.
Lucy smiled and came over, rubbing my back to calm and reassure me. I cupped her face and growled, “Only mine!” Zeus purred in satisfaction.
“Relax, lover boy. Their eyes can never take me away. They can only look—not touch,” Lucy whispered in my ear.
A delicious chill ran down my spine, followed by warmth pooling at my core.
“They better,” I murmured before smiling and kissing her deeply.
Patricia’s POV
My fists clenched and unclenched repeatedly as I watched their wedding. The position I had dreamed of—believed was mine all those years—still belonged to her in the end. The girl I despised, the one I had dismissed as a mere human from the moment I met her.
Life really is unpredictable. Nobody knows what tomorrow holds for them.
I swallowed a nonexistent lump as hot saliva burned my dry throat. The painful part was not just witnessing their union—it was witnessing it not as a guest like everyone else, but as a maid. A palace assistant.
A fall from grace.
I wished I could revive my father from the dead just to kill him all over again. He betrayed us, and now we were paying for his sins—reduced to nothing but servants. Lowly servants. We had to work endlessly to prove we had no part in his schemes.
Every day in the palace, we endured slaps, spits, and kicks from other servants who believed we were no different from my father—the man executed shortly after the former King and his family were restored to life.
I couldn't bare watching the man I had fantasized about wed another woman. Watching their mating ceremony had been torture, now it felt like a final nail to my coffin. I ran out of the hall, into the woods. Wishing I could just die. I heard my brother's voice calling behind but I ran faster until there was copper scent in my lungs.
My fall from grace landed me in the lowliest of all places. No degree, no place of escape, no fresh start, just hopelessness.
The only better place left for me was to eliminate myself from this world. Otherwise I was poised to watch them flourish everyday while I died a slow and cruel death.
Lovett Jr, my brother arrived huffing and puffing from chasing me.
"What happened little sister, did someone do something to you?
I looked at him with pity, all he could do was ask but couldn't do anything even if he knew.
"I just can't go on like this! I have to end this misery!"
Silence stretched between us! I knew he must have been contemplating on how to convince me otherwise. I was standing at the edge of a ditch that had always been known as a death pit. I had made up my mind, I would end it here.
My foot slipped before I took a step.
I flailed and screamed as I went down.
Lovett's body came tumbling after mine. My heart clenched. But it was the end of us. A closed chapter. Better than a life of disdain. I knew my mother wouldn't continue living after this! At least we would be out of misery.
