Chapter 253 Chapter 253

Chapter 253 Chapter 253

Hailey's POV.

The feeling felt like a rush of adrenaline surging through my veins as we watched Sarah going through the diary with a speechless look.

There was no reason to think that she wouldn't be convinced. I came up with enough evidence dating back a decade which couldn't be swept under the rug anymore.

As for Connors, he couldn't meet our gaze anymore. They had lost a bet and their efforts against Damien were going to be on hold.

“We'll get back to you, Hailey. This is too much to…”

“The case,” I cut in, “Are you still gonna keep hunting Damien without an actual proof?”

“We have proof against Damien,” Sarah tried to save face. “We just need enough to trap him.”

“Exactly my point,” you'll never find enough proof to arrest him unless you go for the other party who clearly needs to be dealt with,” I replied. “And besides, we had a deal. Don't you dare betray me a second time.”

Alright,” Sarah replied. “You are free to go,”

“And Damien?”

“We'll meet up with a few agents. We'll give the orders, he's no longer wanted… for now,”

We heaved a sigh of relief as we stood up to leave.

“Thank you, Sarah. I'll be reaching out to you for updates in this case then,” I smiled.

“I'll be expecting you,” she said with a defeated look.

“And my mother, when are you going to release her? She doesn't know anything, I promise.”

Sarah took a deep breath and spread her fingers in the air. “We let your mother go as soon as we found out she had no knowledge that you were planning on escaping. If she hasn't reached out to you, then that means she doesn't intend to for now,”

I felt sad all of a sudden, but relieved. She was safe at least and I could find her if I wanted to.

As we marched out of the station, I felt light, relaxed. Satisfied.

This was the first time I felt like I had done something crazy and it worked out.

“That was crazy, Hailey. What were you thinking?” Benita brushed past me as we got to the car.

“I don't know,” I chuckled. “I guess I could say, I acted in impulse,”

“Impulse. That was way more than impulse. You scared me.”

“Me too,” Marco added. “You had me thinking I'd have to report back to Damien that I watched you off yourself,”

“Well, I'm glad none of that had to happen,” we chuckled. “Let's just go home already. We got good news to deliver.”

I knew Damien was gonna flip when he heard about the reports of his case. He wouldn't be so overwhelmed anymore. He would have his full focus on dealing with Morellis.

Marco drove us home without any fear or trying to be as discreet as ever. We got home almost as chatty like we had no care in the world until our eyes caught the strange cars parked in the garage.

Damien was super rich but none of the cars matched his taste. I took my time to study the plate numbers and the design.

“Hey, let's go in, you are not going to spend your day gaping at the garage, are you?”

“Of course not,” I smiled, moving towards the door.

I couldn't wait to hold my baby in my arms again. As soon as I got in, I called Sophia's name to announce my presence but I bumped into Benita, standing stiff as though she had seen a ghost.

“What's…”

My eyes caught a figure darting her eyes at us.

“Mrs… Isabella….” I couldn't believe my eyes.

What was she doing here? Damien never told me she was coming over? How could he forget to hold back such important details?

“Good day… Good afternoon, ma'am,” I greeted, looking around to find Damien.

She hissed and rolled her eyes. “And what do you think you are doing back here?”

“I… we came back from… the station,”

“Where else would you be coming back from, you traitorous snake?” She jabbed.

“I told… Damien knew we…”

“Don't you dare say his name?” She snapped. She stomped forward, stopping right before me. “I'll say this and I will say it once, pack your bags and leave! I don't want to see a snitch and a traitor around my son. You despise me, you are a reject, a wretched incarnate of self-pity, you scum,”

My chest felt heavy. I forced my breath out. I tried to control my anger. Her words hurt so bad that I felt the thirst to fire back, but I was the reason she hated me so much.

I betrayed her son's trust. She had always been cautious of me, but I finally gave her a chance to lose all respect for me.

“Ma'am, if you would let us explain and apolo…”

Wham!

A hard slap graced Benita's face before she could complete her statement. She staggered back in shock, her eyes distraught. She tried to go in for the second hit, but I sucked my breath, catching her hands mid air.

“That's enough! Your beef's with me, not her,” I snapped in anger.

“You are right!”

My cheeks burned hit as she launched a slap at me, fast and hot. I blinked as I pressed my palms against my burning cheeks.

“Don't ever hold my hands, you sick brat,” she warned.

“Grandma, stop it, will you?” Sophia raced out with my son in her hands.

She walked up to Isabella and gently drew her back. “You can't just do that to her, she's been through a lot too,”

“I don't care!” Isabella roared at her, causing Sophia to flinch in shock.

Right at that moment, Damien walked into the sitting room. I didn't expect him to support me or even try to stop his mother. A part of me knew I deserved this, but what I did not deserve was getting my heart shattered into pieces.

He walked in holding a woman hand in hand as she smiled with a teary eye. I suddenly froze, my eyes almost bulging out in shock at the gorgeous lady.

She looked older than me, but she exuded confidence and comfort with her aura alone. My head ran with thoughts, thoughts I couldn't hold back on, thoughts that made my right cheek burn hotter, my stomach growl in pain.

“Hailey,” Sophia muttered.

“What's going on here?” The woman said as Damien pulled his hands away from her, avoiding eye contact with me.

“Oh honey, don't worry, I was just sending these little shits to the scum they belong to,”

“I'm not a scum,” I fired back.

“Scum or not, you are not staying here anymore.” She fumed. “I'll make sure of that. Damien has no need of you anymore, get out and leave his heir in our care,”
