Chapter 252 Chapter 252
Chapter 252 Chapter 252
Hailey's POV.
‘It can't end like this,’ a voice whispered in my head. It was tiny, but I could feel it was from my heart, genuine and driven with intent. They may have thought they got us cornered, but I came here for a reason, I decided to compromise my location so I could help Damien like he had always done for me.
“NO!” I snapped with a deep angry voice. “Listen here Sarah, You don't have the right to threaten me. No official has the fucking right to,” I glared at Agent Connors, tightening my arms against the diary.
“You will let me pass through to do what I came here to do or…” I stopped, scanning through the eyes of every agent and policeman in the room. I had nothing against them.
But a crazy thought flashed in my head. So crazy that I was scared of even doing it. But I felt a surge in my veins, like electric sparks. I knew I had to do it. I reached for Sarah's gun on her waist and she moved back in surprise by the time I cocked it and pointed it in the air.
“What are you doing?” She thundered. “Give it back.”
“No,” I fired. Even Benita turned speechless, Marco gawked watching the scene slip out of control.
In a matter of seconds, I pointed the gun on my head and inhaled deeply. Worried Gasps escaped their mouths as they spiralled out of control to stop me.
“Hailey!” Benita screamed in fear. “Stop, Hailey. You don't have to do this. Somebody stop her.”
Fear took over the atmosphere, turning the air thick with tension and suspense, but my efforts seemed useless until Sarah glitched with fright. She tried to cover up with a frown, but her fingers twitched, she pressed her lips together and her chest pumped up restlessly.
“What has gotten over you?” She asked in a calm man er, forced and cautious. “Drop the gun and stop acting crazy. There's nothing to prove here,”
“Hailey, please listen to her and stop this,” Benita begged.
“Crazy? You think I'm crazy?” I laughed. “No, Sarah, I'm not… I was never crazy.” I took a step forward. “But I'll let you know that if I pull this trigger, the blame would be on you. You drove me so crazy by manipulating me. You hypnotized me to seek your protection, you belittled me and threatened me.”
“I couldn't go on anymore with your disguised help and I took matters into my own hands to help myself and get rid of a threat, but you showed up and threatened to contain me,” I continued. “That's how the story's gonna go if I shoot myself.”
She looked around, gulping heavily as she watched the officials mumbling amongst themselves.
“You'll lose your job, and I hope they send you the slums,” I spat out.
I tried to catch my breath after I was done, waiting for her response. Seconds turned into a minute, the tension forcing her to give in.
“Stand down everyone,” she sighed heavily. “Hailey, please drop the gun. I'm not here as a threat, I want what's good for you,”
“Then why won't you ever listen to me?” I fired, my eyes wet with tears.
“Alright, I will. Just… put down the gun, will you?” She begged.
With a heavy breath, and Benita low mumble, I dropped the gun and blinked away the tears. Sarah sighed in relief, slapping her hands against her forehead. “That's a close one.”
“What are you doing here?” She spoke up. “Honestly, I was confused when I realized you were heading to the station of all places.”
I raised the diary to get her attention and cracked a smile. “I'm here to report a case and to get a police investigation report.”
Sarah crinkled with interest as Connors matched up to her. “What for?”
“I'm building up a case against Anthony Morellis and his son. I have proof.”
“What!”
“I said I have proof. I'm not blindly going against him like you are doing to Damien, I have evidences on the crimes he committed decades ago,”
“Can I take a look?” She stretched her hands forward, causing me to coil backwards in defense and glare at her. “That depends, are you going to do the right thing if I show this to you,”
“The law requires us to be neutral. If what you are holding is evidence against Morellis then I have no options than to assist you,” she replied.
“We don't trust you,” Benita stepped forward, standing between us.
“Why?” Connor voiced and Marco stepped up in defense.
“For one, you let his minion turn your heads against the crimes that he had done so you could put it all on Damien,” she replied. “And don't get me started on taking sides with a crooked bastard like Vinicius Sanchez,” she hissed.
“Last I checked, you both told me you don't know who he is,” Sarah replied, crossing her arms.
“Well, we do. And we didn't tell you the truth because we knew you weren't going to believe us.” I stated. “ You are being played and you do not even know it yet,”
“Then help us, we are willing to listen to you… and help you in this case you are trying to build.”
Benita turned to me, waiting for my next reply. Before I could speak up, Marco placed his hands on my shoulder and whispered a few words in my ears. And he was right.
I moved out of our circle and stopped a few inches away from Detective Sarah. “I'll help you with what I know, but first you have to give me your word.”
“What do you need,” she replied sharply.
“I know you've gotten a promotion. Like it or not, I helped you get the promotion. Now you call more shots than you ever could,”
“I still don't know what you are getting at,” Sarah interrupted.
“Stop whatever you are doing!” I chorused. “If I let you in on the evidence I have against Anthony Morellis, you'll stop the case you have against Damien. Everything you have in him is fabricated or exaggerated at most.”
“No, we can't do that. How do you know that they are fabricated anyway?” Connor chimed in.
“Because I said so. I know the truth, I'm the one with evidence here, not misleading information and a scary face,” I rolled my eyes at him.
He glared and gnashed his teeth at us. If Sarah wasn't around, he would have charged at me to teach me a lesson.
“I accept your conditions, Hailey. If your proofs are able to convince me that Morellis is a menace then I'll drop all the cases I have against Damien. The law wouldn't be against him anymore,” she voiced out.
A smile plastered across our faces as she met our demands, but it was short-lived as the tip of her shoes grazed against mine.
“But if I am not convinced, Hailey, I'll add you to the huge case I'm building up. You'll spend years in prison, and trust me when I say you'll regret it.”
Fear cracked through my spine, making my knees tremble.
