Chapter 179 - A MIRACLE SILVER WOLF
178. Killian’s POV
We were about to inter the little body of my son.
It was a pain beyond what I could bear.
But looking at my other two sons who didn't understand why their brother was not waking up even when they tried calling him, and their mother whose grief was so heavy that it could be touched, I had to be strong.
The pain I felt when I held At's body and felt it turn cold in my hands was more than I could bear.
I wished that I was back to being under the blood moon curse than watching my baby die.
Tamia went and had a talk with Triz and I was told what she did and I felt that that woman deserved better.
She didn't deserve to die anytime soon.
I myself will make sure that she pays for what she has done.
I was never close to her but she was with Tamia and the fact that she broke her heart and killed one of our babies was unforgivable.
I could never forgive her for what she did.
She killed my babies and she would pay for it.
It was Tamia and I who cleaned our baby's little body, dressed it and put it neatly and nicely in the small coffin Aurora had made.
Aurora wanted to be the one to deal with Triz and Logan but I didn't let her.
They were mine and Tamia to deal with.
As was given, Atlas was royalty and we had to bury his body in the royal tombs.
Of all the bodies that were buried there, he would be the youngest.
The other one was a boy of nine who died of a plague and he should have been my great grandfather or such.
The whole kingdom was grieving with us and they had even set a memorial monument at the city center where people went and put flowers or lit candles.
Tamia and I went there and lit a candle for our son and thanked the citizens.
This time, we had allowed them to use Atlas' photos because he deserved to be mourned properly.
We have been keeping our babies' appearances a secret until they clocked three at least.
And people were so angry to see the beautiful creature that had been taken away from us.
We had a public funeral ceremony where those who came were allowed to see his body and then we were to hold a private ceremony at home.
This would be aired on TV and I hated that the first time we had a public event being aired live after the introduction ceremony of our babies was the burial of one of them.
And since people were asking for Logan and Triz's blood for killing their prince, we would give them that.
But for the time being, I kept quiet because I had to be strong for my people and my family.
Tamia sat on a chair at the front where the little coffin was as she held Ap and I held Ar.
As if they could read the somber mood that was on the faces of everyone present in the hall as the oracle conducted the mass, they didn't even make a noise.
Tamia was wearing big back goggles and I knew she wore them to hide the fact that she was crying to the children.
But I didn't fault her.
I myself cried in our room when no one was around except her.
I knew I had to be strong but sensing my distress, she told me that I didn't have to always be strong and that I was allowed to grieve for our baby.
We both cried as we held each other and hugged each other to sleep.
After the oracle was done with the traditional chants and rituals, it was time to go to the tomb and conduct the final rites for our baby.
Kira carried the small coffin because Tamia wouldn't have any other person touch it.
She refused because she said that At would have loved to be carried by his favorite uncle.
After we got to the tombs, the oracle did his thing and we also did what we had to do and finally the little tomb where the little coffin was to go was opened.
This was done by Kira and his men and it was so little that it hurt.
I imagined my baby all alone there in the dark and...
All I can say is that it tore my heart to watch as the little coffin was put there and the tomb closed with a heavy stone bar.
Tamia then used her magic to put a seal over it to make sure that no one opened it.
No one said anything as we all watched her.
She was shedding tears and the babies were holding to each side of her asking her not to cry.
She then smiled down at them with a swollen face and then kissed them.
"Your brother is now resting with your grandparents.
We will all see them sometime later.
But you don't have to worry, he will be safe," she told them and Apollo looked at her baffled.
"Who grandparent (grandparents) ?" He asked innocently.
"Mama, we have (have) Nana and Papa?" Ar asked and I wondered where he learnt that.
"Yes you do. Come, I will show you," she said as she picked both of them in each of her hands effortlessly and walked with them round the tombs.
She showed them my parents photos on the headstones and explained to them as if they were adults that Atlas was now with his grandparents.
It is just that he went before us," she said and she seemed to have come to terms with the fact that our baby was now resting.
"Okay. We th-tay (stay) with Mama and Dada and go there later," Apollo said and Tamia smiled.
"Yes. You have to make sure that you stay with mama and papa for a long time.
Okay?” She asked and put them down.
She then asked Aurora to leave with them and her and I were left at the tombs as everyone left.
The final vigil that had been organized by Kira and Aurora would be held in the grounds and everyone was invited.
They said that At deserved to go with a bang.
I appreciated it because it would help us bear it if they made merry and ate and danced to celebrate a very short life.
But even if At died young, I was sure that he was happy in his short life except in his final hours.
After Tamia and I were left, she sat down and didn’t say anything to me.
But I sat down there beside her and kept our link open just to let her know that she wasn’t alone.
I was there with her and I understood what she was going through because it was what I was going through too.
“You know what?” She began and I just hummed to let her know that I was listening.
“I blame myself for all that has happened to us.
I am so sorry because if it wasn’t for me, my baby wouldn’t have left us,” she said and then sighed heavily.
Her sigh was so heavy that you would have thought that she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders.
I couldn’t let her continue blaming herself but first, I had to know why she said that.
“Why do you think you are to blame?” I asked her.
“Don’t you blame me?
Don’t you blame me for all that has happened in our lives so far?
We haven’t had any time to ourselves since we got married because we were busy running around and it was something to do with me.
I forgave Logan and thought he would change.
I took pity on Triz and kept her close to us and even gave her access to our pack and look what she did.
So, don't blame me even a little?
I would,” she said and I held her chin and turned her to look at me.
“If there is anything I blame you for, it’s for you being so beautiful that men stare everywhere we go.
If there is anything I blame you for, it’s that you are good to a fault.
But for our baby's death, no.
Ask you what, if it was me in your shoes, would you blame me?” I threw the question back at her to see what she would say.
She sat there and thought for a while and then shook her head.
“I guess not.
Nine of them were in our control and no one could have known what would happen in the future.
So, no. I wouldn’t blame you,” she said and I smiled at her.
The first smile since At left.
“There you have it.
All we have to do is be careful of who we allow in our lives from now on.
Just know that your happiness is mine.
I am happy when you are.
And I love you for always,” I said and kissed her.
I expected her to push me away given the circumstances and where we were but she didn’t.
The kiss was short and assuring and then she initiated a hug.
I held her tightly and willed my emotions to pass to her.
“Thank you for being you,” she said.
“Will it be okay?” I asked her.
“Yes he will,” she said and that made our hearts settle a little.
As we left the tombs, our hearts weren’t as heavy as they were when we came.
