Chapter 142
Chapter 142
Aiden's words instantly snapped everyone back to their senses.
Daniel quickly said, "I get it now — I finally get it! I knew something was off about everything that's been happening lately. Now that you've laid it out, Dad, it all makes sense. Mr. Sanchez is a big name in the Marquis family. If he openly said he liked Emily in front of everyone, he'd become the laughingstock of Eldoria's elite circles. That's why he's been going after her behind the scenes. As for the three million dollars William suddenly had — my guess is Mr. Sanchez met with him privately and paid that useless guy to cover for him."
Aiden's reminder and Daniel's analysis connected all the dots instantly.
Bronte finally caught on, standing there with her mouth half open in shock. When she came to her senses, she dropped to her knees, sobbing: "Father, I was wrong. I really was wrong."
Aiden said coldly, "Go home and think about what you've done. And tell Kian — if he ever steps out of line again, I'll have his head next time."
After the Taylor family dispersed, inside the car dealership —
The tall woman from earlier was nowhere to be found.
William finished picking up his car and got the manager to arrange delivery of the other cars to the house.
Delilah drove one of the new cars to pick up the kids from school.
That afternoon, Emily was driving home when she spotted three brand-new Audis parked outside the entrance of their community. Her eyes lit up immediately.
At lunch, she'd thought William was joking — but the guy had actually gone and bought three new cars. The latest models, each worth over nine hundred thousand dollars.
Cars like these weren't anything special in Novaria's elite circles, but given their situation right now, spending that much money was just plain excessive.
At the same time, Emily was burning with curiosity. William had been on a wanted list all these years — there was no way he could've found any decent work. And the Brown family had never acknowledged him as one of their own. So where had these three million dollars come from?
With a head full of questions, Emily hurried upstairs and went home.
The moment she walked in, she couldn't help asking, "William, were those three new cars parked outside really yours?"
William was sitting with the kids helping them with their homework. He gave a small nod and smiled. "Yeah, didn't I say so at lunch?"
Emily walked right up to him, her face full of confusion. "You did, but you never told me where the money came from. No wonder the family was calling me this afternoon."
William just smiled casually. "Emily, I've told you before that I have money. You just never believed me. And I can tell you straight — every penny of it is clean."
Before he even finished, Remy looked up with a grin. "Mom, Dad also said that after dinner this afternoon, we're moving to a bigger place."
Emily's eyes went wide. "Hold on — don't tell me that besides buying three cars, you bought a house today too?"
William shrugged like it was nothing. "I didn't buy it. This afternoon at the dealership, Aiden showed up. When he heard that Delilah was staying home to take care of the kids, he told us to move into the villa."
When Remy and Mira heard that, little Mira — who was always the more timid one — suddenly burst into tears. She wiped her eyes and cried, "Daddy, I don't want to live in a villa. I just want to stay here with Mom, Dad, and Delilah. I don't want to go back."
Remy choked up too and pleaded, "Dad, Mom, please — can we just stay here? If we go back, Grandma will drain us dry sooner or later."
Delilah came out of the kitchen carrying a dish, smiling as she said, "Remy, Mira, don't worry. If anyone goes back, it'll be us adults. Your grandparents would swap with us — they'd come stay here, and we'd go back to the villa."
Mira was too worked up to calm down. "No! I just don't want to go back. Please, Dad, Mom — can we just stay here? It's a little small, but we love it here."
It was clear that Daniel's family had left a real mark on both kids.
Seeing this, William said plainly, "Alright. If Remy and Mira don't want to go back, then we're not going back."
Delilah set the dish on the table and smiled. "Fine by me. I'll go wherever you all go. If you're staying here, I'm staying here too."
Emily quickly stood up, looking a little embarrassed. "Ms. Roberts, we can't have you cooking for us. William, Ms. Roberts has been picking up and dropping off the kids — the least you could do is take care of the housework."
Delilah waved her off with a laugh. "Please, don't mention it. We're all living together now — we're family. Besides, helping with homework is way beyond me. I'll leave that to Mr. Brown."
Emily's face flushed with guilt. "Ms. Roberts, I'm really sorry. The place is so cramped — we're putting you through so much."
Delilah smiled warmly and said sincerely, "Mrs. Brown, it's truly my honor to be here. Don't overthink it. Since the kids don't want to leave, we'll stay. Honestly, I think this place is quite comfortable."
Emily looked at her with grateful eyes and promised, "Ms. Roberts, don't worry — within a month, I'll find us a better place to rent here in Novaria."
Delilah grabbed Emily by the arm and steered her toward the kitchen, laughing as she said, "Mrs. Brown, let's not worry about that now. Come on — let's get the food on the table and eat."
The dishes had barely been set out and the family hadn't even started eating when there was a sudden urgent knock at the door.
Delilah was the first to get up and answer it.
When she opened the door, Daniel was standing there — along with Juniper and Layla — the whole family loaded down with bags and luggage.
"Ms. Roberts, we're so sorry to impose — have we come too late?"
Since William was still in the living room, Delilah didn't feel it was her place to make the call. She turned and looked back at William and Emily.
Emily heard the commotion and quickly got up. When she saw Daniel and the others looking so flustered and worn down, she froze on the spot.
