Chapter 133 Looks lost
Chapter 133: Looks lost
The professor studied the field for a moment. Then he gave a small nod. They had somehow missed it.
“Good observation.”
He turned to the rest of the students.
“Fibroids can distort the muscular structure of the uterus. That distortion can prevent effective contraction, which is necessary to stop bleeding after delivery.”
At that moment the other surgeon spoke again. “Uterine massage.”
A nurse assisted immediately.
After what seemed like forever, the bleeding began to slow.
The anesthetist nodded. “Vitals stabilizing.”
A quiet wave of relief moved through the operating theatre.
Professor Harding looked back at the students. “This,” he said calmly, “is why obstetrics is not simply about delivering babies.”
He gestured toward the patient. “It is about anticipating complications before they become disasters.”
Then he looked directly at Golden.
“Well spotted, Miss Nixon.”
Golden blinked slightly behind her mask. “Thank you, Professor.”
Professor Harding folded his arms. “Remind me to have you assist in the next teaching round.”
The rest of the sugery went on smoothly. They didn't experience anymore bumps on the road until the patient was stitched up.
The students left the theater with mixed feelings. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, but one thing they were grateful for was the fact that the surgery was successful.
Golden dragged her tired body to her room. She used the last bit of energy she had left to go take a bath.
The bath was good as it helped her relax her tensed nerves. She changed into her sleepwear and jumped on her bed.
The surgery had lasted for two hours and it was already 10 pm. Since it was too late to eat anything, Golden decided to have something light.
She went to the kitchenette and took out a bowl of Greek yogurt from the fridge. It brought back memories from the first day she visited Northbridge.
In one of the kitchenettes, a student had written on a sticky note “if you eat my yogurt, I hope you have pharmacology exams the next day.”
Golden shook her head at the memory. Here she was, taking out a bowl of Greek yogurt from the fridge about a year later.
She took out a bag of strawberries and blueberries and added some to her yogurt.
On her way back to the room, she spotted Grace dragging her tired self.
“Long night?” She asked with a knowing look.
“Girl remind me again why I chose this field?” Grace said plopping down on one of the cushion in the parlor.
“Because you want to save lives?” Golden approached her and tapped her on the shoulder. “Go soak in the bath for a while, you will feel better.
I still have some yogurt left in the fridge, you can have the other bowl with the remaining strawberries.”
“I'm off to bed. Stood through a two-hours surgery.” Golden turned and went to her room.
“Thanks girl. You are a lifesaver” Grace shouted after Golden.
The moment Golden stepped into her room, she noticed her phone beeping and rushed to go pick it up.
“Hello good evening. Please who's on the line?” Golden asked. There was no profile picture and she didn't have the number saved.
“Hello Golden. This is Alexander Mendez.” The caller responded.
“Xander! Hi! It's been a while! You disappeared into thin air.” Golden said rushing through her words.
“I'm sorry Gigi. I had to go away for a while. I have been in Kenya for the last one year.
I just got back into the country. Came in last week, reported at work a few days ago and I didn't see you.
I went over to Rosa's house to see the kids and met Alex. I asked about you and she told me you were in England.” Xander said.
“Wow Gigi. I heard about your amazing feat. Class Valedictorian and scholar at Northbridge School of Medicine.
I never mentioned, but I did finish from Northbridge. How's Professor Harding, is he still there?”
“Really? A Northbridge Alumni. That's really cool. As for Professor Harding, funny you mentioned him. I was with him about 45 minutes ago.
He led a team to perform a C-section on a patient. 30 weeks pregnant with visible traces of fibroid that was threatening an abortion.
We were allowed into the theater to observe the procedure. And I must say, it was quite an experience.”
“It's about 10 pm or there about in Northbridge right? Xander asked. “If you are not too tired, can you tell me about your first theater experience if this is?”
Golden went on to tell Xander all about everything that happened during the surgery.
Xander was amazed and didn't fail to praise her for her observation during the surgery.
Golden felt like Xander was her biggest cheerleader. Every time they talked, he always found something to praise her about.
Then they talked about her life in Northbridge and how she was finding the school.
Xander shared his experiences from the time he was there and they both laughed. She could relate to some of the experiences because it was her current reality.
They spoke until it was midnight and Golden yawned. She had had a very hectic day and was exhausted.
“Okay girl, I think you should go to bed now. It was really nice talking to you. I will call you some other day.”
“Goodnight Xander.” Golden said in between yawns.
Florida...
Allan arrived at Lindsay's apartment. She had moved out of her brother's house and moved into a three bedroom duplex.
He rang the door bell and waited for her to come get the door.
Lindsay came to the door while trying to put on her earrings. “Sorry I'm almost done. We would be leaving in a minute.”
“The cake is on the kitchen counter. Can you please get it while I grab my phone and purse from upstairs.” Lindsay said as she rushed by up to get her things.
Allan picked the cake and went out to put it in the car. He came back in and met Lindsay struggling to zip up her dress.
“Jezz Lin, you are acting just like Octavia. You know you could just ask for help right?” Allan said chuckling as he approached Lindsay and turned her around to help her zip up her dress.
“I see why you are struggling, the zip is stuck. Please hold out your hair in front, will you?”
Lindsay held her hair while Allan tried to get the zipper to move.
Allan couldn't help but notice Lindsay's back as he tried to get the zipper to work. She wasn't wearing anything inside the dress and for a second he was lost.
