Chapter 62🐟🐟Nothing Can Replace Home🐟🐟

Zena's POV

We drove for more than a mile then we got to Mercy's apartment.

Although it was still nightfall, or maybe probably it was early morning but it was still dark, yet I could still see all the apartments beside hers looked the same, which made me wonder how people living around here get to know which of the apartment is theirs.

I had the time to look around because I was waiting for her to open her door, the rattling sound the key made had activated the neighbor's dog to bark.

Currently, in my mind, I pray for the dog not to come around her apartment which made me ask her at the verge of she opened the door after she had unlocked it,

“Do you have a dog?” I requested and she calmly answered,

“I hate dogs, especially their smell” she replied

I was lighted the moment she said she hates dogs, but I frown in my mind when she said and the dog's smell made me a bit sad but I was able to hide my emotion because her home was beautiful I immediately compliment her,

“Your home is cute!”

“Thank you!” Mercy happily replied and announced as she walked me to a room,

“This shall be your room from today!”

Looking at the well-decorated furniture room made me recall my old room because the room was exactly positioned like my previous room but with more exquisite decoration.

The reading table, the window without burglary, the dream light beside the bed, everything about took me back home with so much excitement that I could not control my feet any longer and I hug her with so much love.

“It's okay Zena, feel relaxed,

Take your bath and join me for breakfast!”

“Breakfast!” I hollered and she sneer and pointed at the wall in the clock direction,

“My goodness! It's 6 am!”

“You are right Zena, so get ready!” she left.

I was still for a moment, she left because I was lost in happiness it was like everything is coming back again for good.

Coming back with a bunch of happiness, it feels like I'm back home, but sadness came in like the darkness that takes the day when I remember my family, Maria, my farm, and more especially my fritters.

I clearly remembered that even though this room is far more different from my previous home, my previous room was upstairs and had so much memory but in this room, I'm yet to have a memory.

I walked to the reading table corner because a mirror was hung there but mine does not have,

I saw myself in the mirror, and this question raised,

Is this how I want to live my life running from home?

And who is the owner of this room by the way?

But the moment I asked myself that question I looked on the table and saw a picture of a girl that might be the same age as me.

“18 years!” I murmured loud without noticing Mercy was standing at the door and she said,

“You are right! she was 18 years.”Mercy calmly groans.

“What do you mean by she was 18?” I asked and she replied,

“She was 18 years when she vanished.”

She walked close to me as we both stare at her picture and she whispered,

“She has been missing for the past six years, and I'm hoping she returns because if she does not,

Then I failed as a cop because I can not solve my daughter's missing crime.” she emotionally broke into pieces as tears gushes from her eyes and I could feel how broke she was even though I have never been in that situation.

She almost infected me into sobriety but I was able to control my emotion and I said,

“Do you have beans?”

“Beans! for what dear?” Mercy was lifted out of her into six and seven because she wondered if beans could be used to trace her daughter and she said again,

“Do I have to search her at beans?”

“No ma'am,

Sorry, what I was meant to say is that,

Do you have beans in the kitchen so I can make fritters?”

“Oh! Fritters I had wished to eat those, do you know how to make fritters?”Mercy ask and Zena replied,

“Yeah!”

“ Okay, so what do you need,

Is it just beans? Because I don't have beans like the real beans but I have powdered beans! will that be good?”

“Sure!” Zena commended and she said to Mercy,

“Why don't you go freshen up and I will do the same while I fix breakfast.”

Zena convince Mercy as she escorted her out to her Mercy's room.

I returned to my room and had my bath, I enjoyed having my bath especially when it was warm water.

Using the shower was not new to me because Richard had thought me how to use those,

Richard! Poor Richard,

I had no intention of hurting you, and it's what I will never forgive myself, even though this morning I had almost lose my emotion,

But I was stopped the moment I saw the reflection of your cute smile,

How do I have known that your life will end in my hands,

I'm truly sorry Richard, really I am! I never wish for this

Zena rinses herself under the shower for a while after she has to finish soapy her body.

The light warm hot drops from her hair down to her foot and the hot flame smoke could be seen as steaming smoke comes out from the upper side of her hair and all over her body.

It was a refreshing shower after three days of no shower, probably Zena was the smell that made Mercy recall the scent of a dog.

But after the shower, Zena felt lighter and fresh, she wanted to pick out pajamas from Mercy's daughter's wardrobe but on second thought she prefer to wear her clothes and not Mercy's daughter's own.

Zena hurried up with wears and she finds her way to the kitchen, where she locate the powdered beans she started mixing the fritter ingredients after she has ensured that whatever she will be needing is available.

The hot oil was set, and shortly after Zena had spooned the mixed beans into the hot oil, the hissing sound and aroma attracted Mercy from her room and she joined Zena in the kitchen.

The fritters were served with oat and milk, and they had their breakfast although it was daylight the day was still breaking into the sunset.

Both of them had their meal and after a few chats, they went to their various room and slept off.
