CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT
CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT
Aria’s POV
Ethan wasn't aware of what was about to unfold around him, and I really didn't want any of that to put him in the spotlight, but he wasn't trying to have an open conversation with me.
“Let me get to the door.” Ethan turned, heading towards the door.
“Before you do. Tell me the truth now, Ethan. Have you or have you not been taking money from my company illegally?” I asked him out loud again because he was now farther from me.
Ethan stopped for a moment and turned to me. His face read so much irritation as he looked at me. “Really? You're really asking me that question? If not for the help of Kael, how much would your company have suspected that I would be embezzling from you? I hate all these silly questions you keep asking me and I don't even know where they are stemming from.”
Ethan walked over to get the door. He opened it and was met by a surprise.
“Are you Mr Ethan McGregor?” I hear someone ask Ethan.
He turned to me and back to the door before responding, “Yes, I am. Is anything the matter?”
“We have been approved to take you into custody for embezzlement and several other criminal acts. Kindly turn around.”
I walked over to the door when I heard that.
I honestly never wished to hear that at all. It felt as though my home was breaking apart, and there was nothing I could do to mend it.
“Aria, what's all this about? You brought the police to take me into custody? Are you trying to frame me for a crime I did not commit? I don't understand what's going on here?”
I don't know why, but I began to see how much of a display Ethan was putting up.
He didn't want to respond to the policemen at the door. He just kept turning to me, questioning me and acting like I was trying to drag him down along with myself.
“Perhaps, you are all making a mistake. Haven't you seen her on the news for those crimes? I mean, why wasn't I even called in as a witness? How am I getting to be called in as the one who committed a crime?” He laughed weirdly, like all that was happening must be a mix-up and they were getting the wrong person.
“What's going on there?” I heard Linda say as she walked downstairs, heading in our direction.
“Your hands, sir. We wouldn't want to use force on you. We would appreciate your cooperation.” The police men said to Ethan.
“Who's cooperating? Who?” Linda kept yelling. “Where on earth do you people think you're taking my brother to?” She dragged Ethan away from their front and stood in front of him. “He's not a criminal, and he's going nowhere with you guys.”
I just stood still, watching how all of the drama was going to eventually unfold.
“Ma'am, we will need you to step aside.” A huge and hairy policeman ordered her in a firm voice.
“Why would you just go around accusing people of crimes they didn't commit? What kind of nonsense behaviour is that? You know who committed crimes, and you're coming for my brother. You all are criminals as well, and I'm not going to let my brother leave this house without a proper reason.” Linda insisted.
I walked away from the door and went to sit on the stairs so I could watch what Linda would do.
“What the hell do you think you're doing sitting down? Doesn't any of this concern you? You don't have anything to say?” She yelled at me.
I watched her act all mad without saying a word back to her.
Linda turned to Ethan and said, “Do you see why I told you never to have gotten yourself involved with Aria? Look! Just take a look at what she's doing while they are trying to take you against your will. I knew this day would come, and I had warned you, you wouldn't listen.”
I acted as if I didn't hear what she was saying so I wouldn't take any offense by it.
I just sat and watched all they would do.
“Ma'am, you're interfering with our duty, and we hope not to take you along with us. Please let us do our job by leaving here peacefully.” The police man added.
“Do you know who the fuck I am? How dare you try to threaten me? You will never make this statement you just made to anyone again when I show you what it means to be who I am in this country.” Linda said as though she were someone with so much influence.
I was so close to laughing because I knew she was all empty talk.
All the ways they were behaving irritated me so much. I didn't even want to see them anymore.
“You should follow them… if you're not guilty, you'd be let free. I don't think it's that hard, or it shouldn't be dragged this much. Don't let Linda get you into more trouble with all this struggling.” I stood up and said, advising Ethan.
“Shut the fuck up! You murderer! How dare you!” Linda nearly threw up as she raised her voice at me, screaming like I had said something so bad.
I wasn't even bothered by how mad she seemed.
I was about to leave them in the parlour to go upstairs when I heard a familiar voice saying, “Take both of them.”
I turned to see who it was that spoke when I realized that someone had been standing closer to the door, but didn't say anything all along.
It was Kael.
I was terribly surprised to see him, as she slowly slid from the side of the wall where he hid himself, to the front of the door.
My hair looked a mess, and I was ashamed that he would be seeing me in that state.
“Fuck! Fuck!”
