ROSALINE
I played the video clip again, leaning against the wall for support. My head ached as I heard the words again.
Russo swearing to kill my family and to kill me too. Watching the video clip again brought tears close to my eyes.
As much as I wanted to vehemently deny that Russo had anything to do with my family's death, I couldn't shake this off.
Here was proof that he wanted my family dead! And that was three days to the crash! And I knew Russo's ruthlessness well. He would kill without emotions and kill mercilessly.
I felt my heart shattering as my knees weakened and I crashed to the floor, my hand still gripping my phone tightly.
"Mum, dad" I sobbed, painful memories finding their way into my head.
Russo had wanted me dead along with my parents but now he had me in his grasp and I... Stupid me was sleeping with him!
My phone beeped again and I brushed my tears away to look at the screen.
"I can help you, Rosaline Massimo. You need to meet me without Russo finding out that you now know what he did" the message read and I brushed more of my tears away.
Did Russo still want me dead? Was he just keeping me alive for fun? Was he going to eventually kill me like he most likely killed my parents?
I could go in there right now, confront him and ask him these questions but if I did so and Russo really was the one who killed my family, he would definitely want to keep his secrets hidden and then... And then he would kill me right here on this island.
I had told no one else I was here and on this island, he could very easily discard my body and make sure no one ever found out a thing.
"Oh... Oh god" I sobbed into my palm.
I didn't want to believe that Russo would do this or try killing me but right now, I had no idea what to believe.
I got back on my feet and wiped my tears away. I saved the video to my phone and copied the texts into my phone journal before deleting the messages.
I tucked my phone back into my pocket and took in a deep shaky breath as I made my way back to Russo.
The man who most likely killed my family and wanted me dead too in the past and likely still wanted me dead.
Stepping into the dinning room, my gaze landed on Russo.
"You're..." His words trailed off as he noticed the look on my face.
I knew my eyes would be quite red from the tears and it was very obvious that I just cried.
"Sunshine..." He got up from his seat immediately.
"What's wrong with you? What happened?" He moved towards me and grabbed my shoulders.
I felt an urge to just press my body into his and enjoy his warmth and how safe he naturally made me feel but I could not give in to that urge, not when there was a chance that this man standing before me was behind my family's death.
"Did you bump into something?" He took my hands and checked me out for injuries but found none.
"I am fine" I whispered the words out but my voice made it very obvious that I wasn't fine.
Russo stepped back and raised my chin up.
"You are not fine. Who messed with you?" He demanded to know and I looked away from him.
"No one messed with me. We are the only ones here, who would?"
"Then why were you crying?"
"I... I am sick of this place already. I want to go home right now, Russo"
His gaze narrowed at me and he looked at me suspiciously.
"Just a few minutes ago, you were ecstatic and all smiles? Tell me exactly what happened." He demanded to know, his voice hard and stern.
"Nothing happened to me!!" I raised my voice, losing it for a second. Tears rolled down and I hated it.
"Sunshine" Russo's voice softened and the next moment, he pulled me into his arms and hugged me tightly.
No... I could not like his hug. I could not want him to hold me like this for hours. This man had wanted my family dead!
"Let go of me!" I struggled to get out of his grip but my struggles were unsuccessful until he let me out of his hug and held my shoulders.
"What happened, Cara?" He raised my face up to meet his gaze and I hated that he looked genuinely worried.
I was the girl he had said he would kill too! He couldn't be truly worried about me!
"Tell me what happened and I will fix it, I promise."
"I just want to... I just want to be back home. I don't want to be here with you anymore. Take me back home right now, Russo."
"Did something scare you here? You don't like it here? Would you like me to take you to another island? I could arrange for a better..."
"No! I want to go home!!" I yelled at him, more painful memories finding their way into my head. Memories I had managed to shut out of my head almost perfectly for years.
"I don't want to be here with you anymore! You were right! Let's end this, Russo! There's no point to what we are doing and you don't have to keep me here! I don't want you anymore! And we don't have to wait until this trip is over or until my birthday, we can end it right now so just please! Please let me go home!"
I could see the confusion on his face mixed with worry but staring at his face made me recall the fury on his face when he had said those dreadful words to my father.
I looked away from his face, sniffling back tears and struggling to breathe properly.
"I just want to go home"
"I will have our departure prepared but only on the condition that you tell me whatever just happened to you. You didn't cry and change your decisions in just two minutes of being away from me. What exactly happened? What exactly did you see, Rosaline?"
As I looked at him, I felt the urge to give in and actually tell him what I had seen. I wanted him to tell me those were just words said out of anger and that he didn't do anything. I wanted him to tell me that he would never hurt me and that he was sorry for ever saying that he would kill me but how much of a coincidence could it be that he had threatened death to my family and the plane crash had happened three days later?
And I was at risk of being killed too, right?
I wanted to trust Russo badly but at this moment when there was a piece of evidence telling me not to trust him, I wasn't sure I could trust him.
"Russo" I hated my voice at this moment.
"Delay this departure as long as you wish then. I will be locked up in one of the rooms until you are willing to take me right back home!"
