ROSALINE
“Russo, pick up the goddamn call!” I yelled at the phone but again, my call wasn’t picked.
There was no doubt that Russo was ignoring my calls. He intended to kill Rick and he didn’t want to be stopped by me. But I needed to stop him.
“Get a car” I puffed out, a hand returning to my waist.
If Russo had said he was going to be back in an hour, then that meant he was very close by. He definitely had to still be in the estate. In some other building entirely, in one of those buildings that seemed more like ornamental buildings cause no one ever lived in them.
“The car” I mumbled as a car pulled over in front of me. I pulled the door open and got into the car, feeling slightly dizzy.
I groaned and held my forehead for a second before getting an idea.
“Where are we off to ma’am?” The guy in the driver seat asked.
“Every notable building in this estate until I find Russo but before you start driving, let’s try something out. You are going to have to do something for me.” I stretched my phone out to him.
“Here. Dial his contact and tell him I passed out. Tell him I was walking back towards the mansion and I suddenly collapsed to the floor.” I said to the guy and saw the hesitation in his eyes.
“Listen to me! I need you to do as I have asked you to. I don’t have much time here.” My headache worsened. How close was Rick to Russo now? How many minutes did I have to find them if I wanted to stop this?
If I was unable to find them, I would have to go back in my room and when Russo walks in, he would probably have the smell of Rick’s blood on him or he would have washed up and would look nothing like a man who just killed my best friend. Perhaps ex best friend.
“Just do this for me!” I raised my voice slightly in frustration.
“Alright ma’am” He took the phone from me and I listened with hitched breath as he dialed Russo’s contact.
“Use your phone.” I said quickly, realizing Russo would not pick up my calls.
“Alright ma’am”
He dialed Russo’s contact on his phone and with my thumping heart, I listened and he picked up.
I resisted the urge to yell at him and ask him to tell me exactly where he was right now.
“Boss, Miss… Miss Rosaline just passed out. She fainted while walking towards the mansion. Should we have the doctor over…”
“Cara, you are not getting me to come home like this.” Russo’s voice came and I motioned to the guy to keep up with the act.
“Boss, she is passed out.” He replied Russo,
“Your head on a stake if I get home and she is fine.” He swore with a low curse following.
I snatched the phone out of the guy’s hands.
“Russo, listen to me. Don’t touch Rick. Don’t kill him. I am not going to for…:
“Don’t say that, Cara” He cut me off.
“I almost lost you last night. I am not giving that a chance to happen again. If I have to bury a dozen bodies, spend a shit ton on cleaning up and handling legalities, I don’t fucking care but I am not letting last night happen ever again.”
“I… Russo, I know you just want to keep me safe but this…” I sniffled and brushed a tear away.
“This is not the way, please.”
“I can’t listen to you cry right now, Cara. It softens me up and being softened is the last thing I need right now.” The call ended and I dropped the phone to my side.
I palmed my face and let a few tears roll down.
“Drive me to the entrance of the estate.” I raised my head up. Instead of searching for Russo in this huge estate with so many basements and secret chambers, it was better if I waited at the entrance of the estate and waited until Rick was being driven in.
I would follow them and stop Russo from killing him. Right. That would be it. A perfect plan.
RUSSO EL MASSIMO
I hated that Cara had found out that I was going to kill Rick. It would have been easier to ask her to let go if she had no knowledge of it before it happened.
But it would be a bit harder now that she knew about it already and had already pleaded with me several times to let go.
I wanted to follow her words, to do anything and everything she asked me to but I could still feel the fear from last night creeping into my skin. I could still remember how she broke into tears in my arms, how broken she had sounded and how her body had trembled against mine.
I was not going to let her go through any of that shit ever again. With my very own life, I would protect and shield her.
I opened my eyes and looked at the men still being tortured. One of them had passed out a few minutes ago but the doctors were currently working on him.
Giovanni’s body was still tied down to the chair, blood dripping from him. I wanted Rick to see the body once he stepped in here. I wanted him to get crippled with fear the moment he is brought in.
“Boss” Sian’s voice held a bit of urgency as he hurried towards me.
“The guys have Rick with them outside…”
“And? Why isn’t he down here yet?” I questioned impatiently.
“Miss…. Uhm, she is also outside, with them. She… I don’t know how but she followed them here.”
“Fuck” I cursed and pulled myself up from the chair I was seated upon.
My hands were clean but my shirt was stained with blood.
“I might have to take care of this in another way” I groaned before heading out.
In a minute, I was stepping out and Rick was being held down by men while Cara stood in front of them, hands on her waist and chest slightly puffed out. She was facing them so she couldn’t see me.
“Cara” I called and she turned back to face me. Her hands slipped off her hips and the stubborn look in her eyes faded away as she hurried towards me.
“Russo…” I saw her gulp down as she took in the sight of my bloodied shirt.
“I didn’t want you to see me stained like this, Cara.” I said as softly as I could speak right now with the unsatisfied rage coursing through my veins.
“Russo, please” She took my hand, slightly shaking her head.
“I… He made a mistake. He was out of his senses and messed up very badly but he regrets it. He just told me he wanted to rectify his mistakes last night before he found out things had spiraled out of his control. Russo, please” She begged, gently shaking my hand that she held.
“Cara, how? How can you plead on his behalf?” I held her shoulders lightly and bent slightly to look into her eyes.
“Because we all make mistakes out of anger. Bad, terrible mistakes and I know… I know Rick made a big mistake but he regrets it already and I am fine. I am safe and Rick would never do it again, he would never do any other thing to hurt me. Just let go of him, please.”
I clenched my jaws, lowering my hands from her shoulders to avoid gripping them too hard.
I looked from her to the bastard, still being held by my men. I walked towards him and Cara followed me very closely. I stopped in front of him, the sight of him made my blood boil even more.
“Bastard” I groaned and punched him in the face.
“Russo” Cara gasped, quickly grabbing me by the arm.
“You want me to spare him?” I turned to face Cara.
“Please. I… I hate seeing you like this, Russo. I… I don’t like seeing you so consumed by anger, please” She begged and I just stared until she wrapped her arms around me.
I breathed in deeply, her scent. And it was calming, a lot. I liked how she held onto me so tightly. I liked it all and I hated that I was losing control in front of her. I hated that I was getting her stained with the blood on me.
“Russo” She gently pulled away, her gaze gentle.
“Please don’t do this, Russo” She whispered to me and I was going to look at the bastard again but she didn’t let me.
“No, don’t look at him and get mad again. Just look at me.”
“What do you want, Cara?” I asked, inching closer to her.
“Let him go” her voice was pleading and it was messing with my head really bad, urging me to let go of the bastard yet again.
“Please. I am so drained, Russo. I… I just want us to go home and stay in bed for days unending. I… I feel tired.” Her voice sounded tired too and I hated that I was doing that to her right now.
I had to satisfy her, no matter what. But I had to teach the bastard to never ever mess with my woman anymore. And a single hit wasn't enough to teach him that. I was going to get back to him but for now I had to get rid of this look in her eyes. I had to satisfy her.
“He gets out of this city or for his safety, out of the fucking country in three days because the next time I set my eyes on him and you aren’t there, I’ll kill him.”
