Chapter Sixty Nine
Chapter Sixty Nine
Elliot
“So, it begins.” Tristan states as he stares down at his phone.
I look up from packing my school supplies as we get ready to leave the class for the day. “What is?” I ask.
Cameron leans over his shoulder to see what he was looking at. His frown suddenly turns into a scowl. “The tabloids are going insane with Lincoln.” He grimly says.
Frowning, I slip the strap of my bag over my shoulder. “What’s it about?” I was a little scared to find out, honestly.
Tristan sighs. “It’s about Lincoln being spotted at Watermark Preschool.”
My shoulders tense. It’s been a little over a week since we got back together and every day since Lin has been taking Cyan to his class every morning. Truthfully, I’m surprised it took this long for the news to catch on.
“What does it say?” I ask carefully.
“Well, for starters there’s a picture of him and Cyan-”
I immediately take the phone from him and stare at what was on his screen. He was right. There Lincoln was holding our son’s hand as he takes him up the steps of the school. I couldn’t help the smile as my little man stares up at his dad with a huge smile, looking all happy. Lincoln…that’s where the news caught my attention.
“What does it say, Elliot?” Cameron asks.
“Well, they’re speculating on rumors it seems. Although they’re not far off the mark with this one.” Taking a sigh I lean towards them, so we don’t get overheard. “Lincoln Nolan has been spotted at Watermark Preschool for the third time escorting a young boy, who has yet to be identified. Looking closely however, it’s quite clear the child in question looks remarkably like the prince of the Nolan Clan. Is it possible there may be a love child that was kept secret for the last few years? Or perhaps a hidden marriage the Nolan’s kept under wraps? Maybe another nephew or long distant relative that has come forth in the light of the Nolan family? Either way, speculations all point to a possible new heir to the Nolan enterprises and whether the prince has actually fathered a child at a young age. Following the corruption of Han Nolan and his evil deeds….it goes into the whole mess of what happened a few years ago.” I say as I stare at the picture once again. “Oh, at the end it states, “No comment or interview has been conducted by Lincoln Nolan or any close resources. His PR team has yet to make a statement on this newfound discovery.”
“Well…at least it isn’t bad news.” Tristan takes his phone back, looking down at the article.
“Not exactly good news either. The threats are still happening. If whoever it is discovers that Cyan is his son, who knows what could happen next.” Cameron grimly states.
Suddenly I didn’t feel so well. The thought of my son being in even more danger just because Lincoln was his father didn’t sit well with me at all.
“Elliot, are you okay?” Tristan looks to me with concern.
“Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just…this makes me more worried than before.” I admit.
“Hey…” Cameron places a hand on my shoulder. “Whatever happens you have us now to be there for you and your son. You have family, Elliot. A family who has four dominate Alphas that takes protection of the ones they love very seriously.”
“And three very overly protective Omegas.” Tristan pitches in.
My heart swells with the love I have for these two. And as much as I appreciate their words and determination I couldn’t help thinking that there wasn’t much either of them could do if something dangerous happens, considering they were both heavily pregnant.
“Thanks you guys.”
We all start heading out of the class and as we walked in the halls, hordes of people passing us back and forth I almost didn’t see him. I stop dead in my tracks, anger starting to sizzle under the surface. Tensing my jaw I almost turned around to take the long way, but if I don’t make him understand now to leave me alone and live his own life he’ll never go away.
“Is that…?” Cameron asks, noticing him as well.
“Unfortunately, it is.” I grit. I start to walk faster wanting to get this over with.
“We’ll be right behind you.” Cameron must sense my displeasure of seeing Quintin looking around for me.
When he finally spots me his eyes light up until he notices I wasn’t happy seeing him here. “Hey, Elliot-”
“What the hell are you doing here?” I demand, not allowing him to finish whatever he was about to say.
“I was worried about you. The last time we saw each other you were being carted off like you were owned property.”
I roll my eyes at his dramatic words. “I was not. You damn well know that he put me down when I asked him too. I’m fine so you can go now.”
“Elliot, hold on a minute!” He calls out when I sidestep him to go on my way.
He takes a hold of my arm to swing me around to face him. I stare at his hand on my person, my anger slowly turning to rage. “Let go of me Quintin.” I warned, my tone taking on a dangerous vibe.
He quickly does that as he takes a step back. “Look, I just needed to make sure you were okay, alright. That man basically forced you to go with him. What was I supposed to think?"
I take a deep breath to keep my cool. “I told you that I’m fine. Everything’s okay now Quintin, I was never in danger in the first place. Like I told you before, Lincoln would never do anything to hurt me or Cyan.”
“Lincoln Nolan? The man that has been named as The Monster of the Nolan Clan? That man?” He suddenly gets close to me as he lowly says, “He’s more dangerous than you know him to be Elliot. The man has done things, horrible things. Things you would turn your back on as soon as you discover what they were. He isn’t exactly a knight in shining armor that your delusions make him out to be.”
I scoff, hearing the audacity of what was spouting out of his mouth. “Delusions? Are you fucking kidding me right now. You don’t know who the hell you’re talking about. You’re just going off by what the press has been saying about him for years. He isn’t what everyone painted him to be. And I know that for a fact.” I bit out, my anger once again coming to the surface.
“Did he rape you?” He demands, throwing me in for a loop.
“What?”
“It’s the only thing I can come up with for you to stay by his side. He’s Cyan’s father isn’t he? Is this some kind of financial security thing? Because I can provide you everything that-”
I slap him hard across the face, nearly punching him. I was no longer angry; I was beyond feeling rage now. “Don’t you ever talk about him like that. Lincoln would never stoop so low in doing something so horrendous. He isn’t some excuse for you to use to try and get close to me, Quintin. Get this through your head, you were never in the running to claim me in any way possible. I’ve known Lincoln since we were seven years old, we were best friends until I was forced from him at fifteen, shipped to America by his disgusting father all because we fell in love. And yes, he is Cyan’s father. He gave me a child out of pure love because I wholeheartedly gave him my body, heart and soul. And you disgracing him in any aspect is going to just piss me off to where I’ll have no trouble completely cutting you out of mine and Cyan’s life. Don’t fuck with me, Quintin. You’ll regret it if you do.”
He stood there, eyes wide, cheek red, sweat beading on his skin while seeming to be stiff.
“Elliot…” Tristan’s voice gets my attention.
That’s when I realized we had an audience. And not just that, but something seemed to be disturbing them all.
“Your eyes…we need to get you out of here.” He looks to Cameron, who seemed to be a little pale.
I instantly try to calm down. Somehow my pheromones intensified and was affecting people around me. I go to step away from him a second time, but his next words causes me to pause in shock.
“He’s marked you.”
