Chapter 33

Chapter 33
Lola's POV

By the time we reached the outskirts of the Mystic Park, the sun was well out of sight. I looked back. The realization finally fell through of the loss of things that I had left behind.

Marcella's hand on my shoulders managed to steady me and still my resolve. Even after lots of hours, I had no information saying that my escape had been spotted. It seems like Telus too hadn't noticed, and a part of me felt relieved while the other parts felt disappointed.

I was gone for nearly half the day, and he didn't notice. What was I supposed to make of that? Why did it sound like he suddenly didn't care? I shook my head. Why should I think of that now?

When we came down from the cup that led to the borders, a few steps and we'd be out of the Mystic Park. Where were we going to go from here? I thought to myself. Was looking at Marcella reassuring? She seemed to have already had everything figured out in her head, and so I could rest assured for the moment that everything would be just fine.

Maybe I could leave this life behind me, I thought to myself. Would it be possible for me to leave the whole werewolf life behind and then focus on myself? We would build everything from scratch, and at least I had a friend that would be by my side. Maybe Marcella would help me.

I remembered the baby that I had in my womb. I would survive the curse of it, and I would make sure to take care of the baby. I'll make sure to take it as far away as possible from all the war that was about to take place. Maybe then it will have a chance to live a normal life. It wasn't going to be easy, but I would be able to achieve it.

"We're going to head to a neighboring park," Marcella said as we walked on. "We'll be in hiding for a few days, and I will try to spark up the connections I have with people that I know," she began. "But believe me when I say that I will do everything that I can to make sure that you get out of this. You are my sole responsibility now, and I'll make sure you survive this one way or another."

"You still haven't told me anything," I reminded her.

"Yes, yes," she gave a nod. "Days end in the next park." I know that not knowing exactly where this was going right now, we were over the borders of the Mystic Park, and we were currently in the Red Horn Park that was headed by Alpha Rufus. It might be easier for us to hide out here for a while, but if this was our final destination, then we would be dragged back into the Mystic Park in no time.

"We'll stay up for a few days," Marcella began. "I know some people here who'll keep us hidden while I really work on this. I need to make sure you know exactly what you are in for," she said.

I gave a nod. I still had some money on me. Also, we were able to order a ride. It took us to the Feynman Inn. During the ride, Marcella explained that the owner, Mr. Feynman, was one of her old friends.

I didn't know anything about Marcella, but I did have an idea that as a doctor, maybe she would be well-versed and have some relationships that extend beyond the Mystic Park. Well, as I said, I knew absolutely nothing about her, and for all I cared, this was another trap. But I didn't have much of a choice right now, and so I could only go on with her, but there is a couple of ways to keep my senses alert if anything should happen. Contrary to what I was expecting, I'd be able to at least fight for my survival and slip out escaping at the last moment.

The inn wasn't very big. Just indeed, it was modern—a medium-sized hotel which just assessed it's considered to be a big duplex. We alighted from the car, and Marcella led me towards the main entrance. A couple of cars were parked in the driveway. Apart from that, everything seemed to be rather peaceful. Peace of mind, something that I seemed to have been avoiding for some time now—this was a welcome development for once.

"Come on, this way," Marcella said, guiding me through the metal doors. We made our way through the large hall that was on the ground floor. There was a restaurant at the side of the building. A man leaned over the counter, dressed in a rumpled t-shirt and a black face cap. He looked up as Marcella approached, and recognition flashed across his eyes.

"Lazy Marcella!" he said, a smile breaking on his face as we approached him. I could only guess that this was the man she told me about.

"Mr. Feynman," she said. They exchanged pleasantries, shaking hands with each other as I stood by the side, watching them and trying not to look out of place. Feynman's eyes flashed towards me. He gave me a smile, trying to ease my discomfort.

"This is Mr. Feynman," Marcella introduced. "The owner of Feynman Inn. We're going to be staying here for a while," Marcella said to him. "And I'll have to trouble you to keep it a secret."

Feynman's eyes became serious. He gave a nod, sensing the gravity of the situation. It seemed almost like Marcella had done this a lot of times before—hiding out, and Feynman had kept hiding secrets away from the rest of the world.

"At first, nothing more at ease now," Feynman advised. "The Alpha has been doing support patrols. It's almost like something is happening in the higher-ups, and everyone is in danger. No one is safe here, so I'll be able to grant you secrecy for a few days at most, but you must be ready to depart soon," he explained.

Marcella gave a nod. "I understand," she said.

Feynman shuffled behind his counter and came up with a room key. "Room one-two-eight," he said, handing it to me. I took it with a smile.

"Thank you," I said.

"Have a nice time," he said.

I was vaguely aware that the only way we achieved secrecy was because, number one, Marcella knew Feynman personally, and he wasn't going to intentionally sell us out, and also he didn't take any record of our presence in his inn. That way, there would be nothing to give us away even if the higher-ups came to do their little inspection.

Everything was settled. We were safe for a few days.

"Dinner is in two hours," Feynman called as we headed for the stairs.

In a few minutes' time, we were safely in our room. It was a small one, a huge difference compared to the room I had in Tyler's Manor, but it was enough for the meantime. There were two bunk beds at the side of the room next to the window and a shelf at the corner. A dressing table with a mirror on top was next to the door, and another door at the back of the room led to an ensuite bathroom.

I was done inspecting the room after a couple of minutes, and I sat down the luggage that I had been carrying with me throughout our escape from the Mystic Park on the bed. I doubted if there would be any need for my pack, but I did like keeping all my things in order.

"Sit down," Marcella said, drawing out a chair and sitting close to me. "I have to tell you something that's very important."

I sat down, sensing the seriousness in her voice. I could tell that it wasn't going to be any random information.

"First, I'm not who you think I am," she said, her expression very serious.

My eyes widened in shock and a hint of fear.

"No, I'm going to protect you," Marcella said immediately. "I owed it to your parents."

I stopped dead, staring at her like a stranger. "My parents?" I muttered. It was like something was about to be revealed with what I thought might bring too much revelation to what was being said.

"You know my parents?" I repeated.

She leaned forward. "You might not have known about this since you were in college at that time, but your parents were protecting a stranger at that time," she said slowly.

"Beta Wilson was a good man. He didn't deserve to die."

"No, he didn't!" I yelled, not caring if the door was soundproof or if the people outside could hear us. "My father should still be alive. And guess why he's not? Because you decided to show up! It was okay if she had some curse in the disguise of powers, it was okay if she spent her life fighting... But why did she have to drag my parents into it? That wasn't okay!"
