Chapter 92 The Ex-Boyfriend's Call
It seemed like a fair deal, but Calliope wasn't sure she could agree to it.
Matthew gently took her hand. "Callie, please don't push me away anymore."
Feeling the warmth of his touch, Calliope finally nodded after a long pause. "Alright, just three months."
She was sure that in these three months, she wouldn't make the same mistakes again.
If three months could cut her last ties with Matthew, she was ready to make this deal.
"Okay." Matthew smiled and nodded, then suddenly lifted the blanket to get into bed!
"Wait, what are you doing?"
"Sleeping."
"Here?"
Calliope was stunned.
They had just escaped death, and now Matthew was thinking about getting cozy!
Seeing Calliope's face turn red, Matthew seemed to realize something and gave her a knowing smile.
"Calliope, do you miss me too?"
"You're talking nonsense!"
Calliope realized she was overthinking, her face turning crimson!
How embarrassing!
After lying down, Matthew pulled Calliope into his arms, holding her tightly. Calliope tried to break free, but he only held her tighter.
"Don't move. Let me hold you," Matthew whispered in Calliope's ear. "You promised me to be good."
Was even her little struggle considered resistance?
Calliope couldn't help but complain in her heart, Matthew was as domineering as ever.
But unknowingly, Calliope's body gradually relaxed. She felt a warmth she had never experienced before in Matthew's embrace.
This hug seemed to have a magical power, calming Calliope's thoughts.
She closed her eyes, feeling Matthew's breath and heartbeat and a long-lost sense of peace. Despite the many unresolved doubts and worries in her heart, she just wanted to immerse herself in this rare tranquility at this moment.
"Matthew, will you really keep the three-month promise?" Calliope asked softly, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Matthew just held her tighter, answering her with his actions.
After a while, he slowly spoke, "I will keep my promise to you."
A complex emotion surged in Calliope's heart. She knew Matthew would always keep his word, but what would happen after three months?
Calliope didn't dare to think about it, nor did she want to. Now, despite it being a temporary escape from reality, she wanted to relish this brief peace.
Not long after falling asleep, the phone rang inappropriately, and Matthew was still asleep.
Calliope quietly moved his arm, but he was holding her too tightly. She had no choice but to answer the phone while lying in bed.
The caller was Daniel.
As soon as the call connected, his urgent voice came through. "Callie! Are you okay? I just found out you were kidnapped the night you called me! Where are you? I'll come to you!"
It seemed that he wanted to be by Calliope's side the next moment.
Hearing Daniel's voice, Calliope felt only calm.
Unconsciously, Matthew had gradually consumed all her thoughts as Daniel began to fade from her mind, leaving her unsure whether this was good or bad.
"I'm fine now."
"Where are you? I'll come right away," Daniel insisted.
Calliope was at a loss for words.
She couldn't exactly say she was lying in bed with Matthew.
Even if she dared to say it, Daniel might not listen. To keep him from freaking out, Calliope decided to tell a little lie.
"I'm resting in the hospital. I'm really tired right now; don't call me again."
Just as she was about to hang up, she heard Daniel's broken and agitated voice, "Callie, did you use the voice assistant to contact your emergency contact that night?"
Calliope's body stiffened slightly. Daniel had guessed correctly.
When he set himself as her emergency contact, he had said that if she were kidnapped and immobilized, she could use the voice assistant to contact him. No matter where he was, he would come to save her.
But that night, it was Zara who answered the call.
Time had changed.
Calliope was silent for a moment, then answered softly, "Yes, that night I did use the voice assistant."
On the other end of the line, Daniel's breathing suddenly became rapid, his voice choked as he seemed to struggle to control his emotions.
"I should have realized it sooner, I should have been by your side and I should have..."
Daniel's voice sounded like he was drowning in self-blame.
But what was Daniel blaming himself for?
Calliope suddenly found it a bit funny.
"You were wrong. You shouldn't have stayed by my side. That night, being with Zara was the right thing to do. I was the one who disturbed you."
Daniel was silent for a while, then his voice came through again, with a hint of determination. "Do you remember my previous proposal? I will prove it to you. Wait for me."
Calliope hung up the phone directly.
Daniel kept calling back. Each time, Calliope hung up, and finally, she simply turned off her phone.
As the shutdown animation faded, Matthew's breath suddenly got closer from behind.
This made Calliope's body instantly stiffen!
When did Matthew wake up?
Matthew's voice sounded in her ear, with a hint of teasing. "Was it Daniel calling?"
Calliope didn't answer, just nodded slightly.
His tone suddenly became serious. "Alright, you're lying in my bed and talking to another man."
"You're wrong." Calliope patted the bed. "This is my hospital room."
"Didn't I pay for it?"
Calliope was speechless again. She was perpetually at a disadvantage in front of Matthew, never able to outtalk him.
"Aren't you going to explain?"
"Explain what? Didn't you already hear it yourself?"
"Explain why you answered his call. Seriously speaking, you're his elder. Why does he still miss you and you occasionally respond to him?"
This made it sound like it was her fault!
