Chapter 86 At the End of the Road

Damn it! Harry was here to settle the score!

Harry was at his wit's end. The cops were probably hunting for him. In this mess, Harry was ready to go all out.

The worst-case scenario? Calliope might not even have a whole body left.

But Calliope couldn't just admit anything; she had to keep her cool, no matter how freaked out she was inside.

"I don't get what you're talking about."

"Don't get it? Still playing dumb, huh?"

Harry lunged and grabbed Calliope by the neck. His hand reeked of cigarette smoke, making it hard for her to breathe. Plus, he was squeezing hard, and Calliope felt like she was about to pass out!

Harry's eyes were wild, but Calliope used every ounce of strength to stay calm. She knew any resistance now could end badly.

She locked eyes with him, trying to keep her voice steady. "I really don't know what you're talking about. I've already resigned. Why are you dragging me into old stuff?"

"Resigned? Matthew just hid you away!"

Harry's shout had a touch of hysteria; he clearly didn't buy Calliope's story.

Calliope felt his grip tighten, but she kept her cool.

"Calm down. Let's talk this out. I'm just as confused as you. What happened?"

Calliope stuck to her story, and Harry's grip loosened a bit. He seemed unsure.

Seeing her chance, Calliope pushed on. "Matthew and I have been done for ages. Please, let me go. I really don't know what he's up to! He was just messing with my feelings from the start!"

Calliope knew her best shot was to play the part of a naive woman who'd been duped.

Harry thought for a moment, then let go.

The rush of air into her lungs felt like a second chance at life for Calliope.

But she knew the real fight was just starting. She was alone, and Zara had cut off her only way to call for help, so she had to save herself.

Calliope took a deep breath, trying to keep her voice steady. "Harry, I know nothing about Matthew's business. I just want to start over. What's the point of dragging me here?"

She tried to sound sincere while watching Harry's reaction, looking for any chance to escape.

A flicker of doubt crossed Harry's face, but one of his guys quickly chimed in, "Harry, don't fall for it! I followed her before; she was living at Matthew's place. When has Matthew ever brought a lover home? She must be important to Matthew."

With his guy egging him on, Harry's brief calm was replaced by rage. "You lying bitch, trying to fool me?"

"I'm not lying. Matthew and I are really over. I can't help you with anything!"

"Then I'll just toss you into the sea to feed the fish!"

With that, two of his men grabbed her, ready to throw her overboard!

"Wait a minute!"

Calliope was on the verge of tears. In a moment of desperation, she shouted, "You just want to negotiate with Matthew, right? Even though I'm nothing to him now, I can help you lure him out, okay?"

Hearing this, Harry made a gesture, and his men immediately stopped.

He stared at Calliope with a hint of cunning and calculation, clearly weighing the feasibility of her proposal.

Seeing this, Calliope knew her words had an effect. She continued, "After all, I was once Matthew's woman. Even though we're over now, I can help you trap him to meet you."

Even though she had changed her strategy, she still couldn't deny that she and Matthew were really over.

She had to insist that she had no idea of Matthew's plan, or she might anger Harry at any time, making the situation uncertain.

Harry frowned, clearly considering the pros and cons of this proposal.

Calliope pressed on. "As long as Matthew shows up, you can negotiate with him, using me to ensure your safety! You just want to take one last gamble to escape, right? Are you really going to kill me?"

Harry was silent for a moment, then signaled his men to put Calliope down.

Harry turned to face the sea breeze, his back to Calliope, and said in a low voice, "Fine, I'll give you this chance. But if you dare to trick me, I'll make you regret ever being born."

Calliope breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Okay, I need to call him."

"Aren't you two over? If you call him directly to meet, will he listen to you?"

Harry was still struggling with whether to believe Calliope.

"He will come out." Calliope gritted her teeth and said word by word, "Because I'm pregnant."

Harry stiffened at this news, then slowly turned around, staring at Calliope with a complex expression.

Harry clearly hadn't expected this. For a moment, his face showed surprise, doubt, joy, and even a hint of barely noticeable panic.

"Are you sure?"

Harry's voice was low and trembling slightly. This news was a big shock to him.

If Calliope was really pregnant, even if Matthew didn't want the child, it was still the Moore family's child.

He could even use Calliope to negotiate with the Moore family, greatly increasing his chances of success!

Calliope nodded. She knew this was her only bargaining chip and her only exploitable weakness.

"Matthew and I broke up because I was unwilling to accept being suspended and wanted to use the child to force him to marry me, but he directly forced me to have an abortion."

Calliope had to make Harry believe she was really pregnant, or she wouldn't be able to escape her current predicament.

This time, Harry really believed her and quickly had his men bring a chair for Calliope to sit on.

"Fine! If you can really lure Matthew out, I'll let you go."

"I need a guarantee from you," Calliope continued, her voice weak but extremely firm.

Perhaps from being with Matthew for too long, she subconsciously mimicked Matthew's assertive tone when she spoke. "I'll help you contact Matthew, but you must promise to let me go after you meet him."

Harry was silent for a moment, then he nodded, seemingly having made a decision deep down.
