The Twist of Events 41

At that point, the doctor gave the caregiver an instructive look, and she got the message at once. Then, she stood up from her seat and gave Jennifer's shoulder a nudge. Subsequently, she opened her eyes gradually and spotted Ken's and Dora's familiar faces, and she furrowed her brows in wonderment. Then, she got up and sat on her bed before her face beamed, and she spoke.

“Mrs. Israel.”

Dora gave her a reassuring smile while Jeff was knocked senseless.

'She is familiar with my mom. Then, why does she want to kill me?'

“Yes, Jennifer. I'm glad to see you on your feet again.”

Dora responded.

“Thank you, ma'am.”

She responded weakly. Then, she looked at Ken, who was watching her keenly, and she spoke again.

“Good day, Mr. Israel.”

'What is going on? She is familiar with my dad, too.'

The befuddled Jeff thought. Then, Ken spoke.

“Good day, Jennifer. I can see that you are stronger and better today.”

“Yes, Mr. Israel. Thank you for stopping by.”

Mr. Israel smiled when he discovered that she was oblivious of her environment. She looked at Jeff, who she just realized that he was not just a familiar face, but the first man she ever loved. The man who made her to flee from Toronto. Subsequently, Ken inquired.

“Would you love to speak with your mom?”

Now, all eyes were on her and the curious Jeff, who had plenty of questions to ask, looked on. At that point, Jennifer's eyes were moist, and Jeff experienced a sharp pang of guilt for causing her pains. However, the naturally sympathetic, Dora, took her seat beside her and pulled her closer to her. Then, she consoled.

“Don't bother much about the past. Everything is all right.”

Nevertheless, Ken put a call across to the Archbishop. Despite the time at Toronto, she picked at once and greeted with great expectations.

“Hello, Mr. Israel.”

“Hello, your Grace. How are you?”

Now, Jennifer appreciated Dora for her concern and paid attention to Ken. At that point, Jeff got the complete picture. He regretted ever thinking of leaving the daughter of the Archbishop, who played a vital role in his mom's survival, behind.

“I'm good, Mr. Israel, and you?”

“I'm okay, your Grace. Kindly speak with your daughter.”

Now, the excited Archbishop inquired.

“My daughter? Is she in Nigeria?”

“No, but I'm in South Africa.”

“Oh! It is all right. Let me speak with her.”

She requested with enthusiasm. Now, Ken handed over his phone to Jennifer. She stretched out her weak hand to collect it, but Dora quickly collected the phone from him and held it for her and advised.

“Speak dear.”

The distraught Jennifer opened her mouth to speak, but she only sobbed.

“Mom.”

She said between sobs. Now, Jeff was pained more than anyone else and wished that he could fulfil the promise he made to her some days ago. 'I promise that I will not hurt you again. If you get up, I will make it up to you'. Since he could not, he only looked on and consoled her within him. Then, her mother spoke happily.

“Jenny, I am delighted to hear from you. How are you?”

“I'm good, mom. How is everyone?”

“Everyone is doing well. I can see that you are still feeble, Let me leave you to rest, my dear.”

“Okay, mom. I love you.”

“I love you too, Jenny. See you later.”

Likewise, Dora handed the phone back to her husband, and he spoke briefly with the Archbishop and cut. Furthermore, the caregiver laid Jennifer back on the bed, and she stared at everyone. Dora got up from the bed and covered her up with the blanket. Gradually, she dozed off. Then, Ken turned to Jeff and appreciated with a hug.

“Thank you, son, for this. The case would have been different if you did not gate-crash to rescue her.”

Howbeit, the hug from his father gave him some comfort, and he responded.

“It is my pleasure, dad.”

Then, Dora looked at the doctor, who was standing and observing them in silence, and asked.

“When do you think she would be free to go home?”

Jeff was pleased with the question because it meant a lot to him, and he listened attentively.

“She is free to leave any moment from now. She can continue with her medication at home.”

“I got it, doctor.”

Dora responded cheerfully. Furthermore, the International Vice Chairman took a step towards the door and the rest followed. Then, Jeff looked at the doctor and called his attention.

“Dr. Reign. I think it is appropriate to let the other team members know that she is safe.”

Dr. Reign smiled with triumph and acknowledged.

“You are right, boss.”

Then, the concerned Ken and his wife picked interest in their discussions and Ken asked.

“What is the matter? Were they not aware of her safety?”

Jeff took time and narrated how the other patients felt about Jennifer and the doctor's reason for keeping the information away from them. Likewise, his parents were touched.

“Poor youths, who were on a good course.”

Mr. Israel pointed out.”

“You are right, Mr. Israel.”

Dr. Reign supported. Now, they were out of the clinic, and Ken bade the doctor farewell. Soon, they were at the Chairman's Office. Now, the sight of Mr. Drake Rowland cheered Jeff up at once. At the airport, they did not have the privilege to chat as they used to.

“Young Master. I'm delighted to see you.”

Drake greeted happily. However, officially, he was the father's secretary, but the relationship between him and the family was beyond that, and he addressed him as such.

“Good day once again, uncle Drake. Welcome to Johannesburg.”

“Thank you, Young Master.”

After the warm greeting, he joined his parents in the office. Behold, the breaking news on the television was capable of giving any nation a panic.

(The International Vice Chairman of the Cherry Fields Oil and Gas Group arrived O. R. Tambo International Airport with fully armed men.)

Nevertheless, Jeff shook his head in disapproval and asked himself.

“Where is this news coming from? I picked him and his team from the airport.”
