Chapter 54

Years had passed since Mariah had embarked on her journey of motherhood alone. She had found solace in the peaceful surroundings of her remote haven and had given birth to a beautiful daughter, whom she had named Ella. The name held a special place in her heart, a promise she had made to the love of her life, Adam.

Mariah cried the day Ella was born, she wanted Adam to see how beautiful she was. She missed him the most that day.

She had chosen to raise Ella as a single mother, embracing her role with a fierce determination to provide for and protect her child. She had become both mother and father to Ella, filling their lives with love, strength, and the memory of the extraordinary man who had once been a part of their world.

Ella was a spirited and curious child, with a spark of her father's personality. Mariah often found herself gazing into her daughter's eyes and seeing the reflection of the man she had loved so deeply. Ella had inherited Adam's smile and his beautiful eyes, the one she had fallen for. And Mariah cherished every moment they shared.

Despite the challenges and the absence of a father figure, Mariah had created a nurturing and loving environment for Ella. She had become her daughter's confidante, she stayed strong for her daughter and started working at a nearby hospital.

Ella was now five years old and by now she was able to understand that her father wasn't with them. Whenever Ella asked about where his father was, she would tell her that her father died in an accident.

Their life together was a testament to the strength of a mother's love. Mariah had chosen to honor Adam's memory by ensuring that Ella knew the depth of her father's love, even though he wasn't physically present in their lives. She shared stories of their love, the promises they had made, and the dreams they had once held.

As Ella grew, she came to understand that her father, while not with them, had left an indelible mark on their lives. She was proud to carry the name Ella, a name filled with love and meaning, a name that connected her to the father she had never met.

She had witnessed the bittersweet moments when Ella had asked about her father, and she had shared stories of their love with her daughter. She had seen the sparkle in Ella's eyes when she looked at the photographs of Adam and had heard her laughter as she listened about her father.

Through the years, Mariah had known that her choice to raise Ella as a single mother, without the prospect of marriage or another partner, was the right one. She had learned that a mother's love was powerful enough to fill the gaps, to provide strength and stability, and to offer the foundation upon which a child could build a bright future.

Mariah had created a world where Ella felt cherished, loved, and inspired by the legacy of a father who had left a profound mark on their hearts.

As they faced the world together, mother and daughter, they knew that their love was a testament to the power of family, the depth of a mother's love, and the enduring memory of a man named Adam, who had once promised to name their child Ella and had filled their lives with a love that transcended time and space.

Ella was five years old now, her 6th birthday was on the way and Mariah decided to surprise her. So she took a train to the city hoping she'll find the perfect gift for Ella that she hadn't been able to in their area. Mariah got off the train and was about to leave when suddenly she saw a familiar face. Even though he was far from where she was standing, she could recognize that face.

Mariah's heart raced as she stood rooted to the spot, her eyes fixed on the distant figure of Mason. It was impossible, she thought. Mason had died years ago, and yet, there he was, unmistakably alive. The world seemed to blur around her as her mind grappled with the impossibility of the sight before her.

She shook her head, thinking it might be a trick of the light or a figment of her imagination. But as she blinked and looked again, Mason remained, a solid presence in the distance.

Her mind raced with a whirlwind of emotions—shock, disbelief, and a glimmer of hope. Could it really be him, or was it a figment of her imagination? With her heart pounding in her chest, Mariah cautiously approached the figure in the distance, her steps hesitant yet determined.

As she drew closer, the features became clearer, and there was no denying the truth. It was Mason, alive and breathing, standing before her as real as the ground beneath her feet. Mariah's eyes filled with tears.

Unable to contain her curiosity and confusion, Mariah quickened her pace, her steps fueled by a mix of hope and apprehension. When she finally reached the spot where she had seen Mason, he was gone, as if he had vanished into thin air. Mariah's heart sank, uncertainty gnawing at her.

Afterwards, when she picked up Ella from school, Mariah couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled within her. As they walked back home, she glanced over her shoulder, half-expecting Mason to reappear, but there was no sign of him.

That night, Mariah couldn't sleep. Her mind was consumed by thoughts of Mason and the impossibility of his presence, if he was alive and survived that night then what about Adam. She wondered if she had imagined the entire encounter, or if there was a rational explanation for what she had seen. As dawn broke, Mariah made a decision - she needed answers, what truly happened that night and did Adam really died that night.

Driven by a mix of fear and determination, Mariah began to investigate. She retraced her steps, questioning everyone near the train station that might have seen Mason, hoping to find a shred of information that could explain the mysterious sighting. But there was nothing – no one had seen him, and no one could offer an explanation.

Days turned into weeks, and Mariah's hope was wavering. She decided to take the train on the same day at the same time as she did when she saw Mason.
