I Know What You Came For
Luna Megan's POV again
The Alpha and Luna enter the recreation room and the conversation takes a different turn. I talk about my upcoming Luna ceremony, which Alvarez plans to hold on my anniversary when our wolves give the final confirmation that we have been brought together by the Moon Goddess.
My mate is planning a big celebration, with all the packs invited to witness us being joined by the Elders and me being installed as Luna. The Alpha family confirms their arrival, in fact, they are very excited to witness it all.
Towards the end of the evening, I announce that Zalev and I will be leaving the next day.
I explain that we are now convinced that Cliara is doing well and that I want to visit my parents in Eclipse Howl before returning home. We wish each other a good night and retire to our respective quarters.
A few minutes later, I heard the front door open.
With a start I sit up in bed, this was an unannounced visit. I wonder if the Luna has forgotten to tell me something. When my bedroom door opens, I see Cliara standing there. The friendly smile is gone from her face as she approaches my bed.
"Meg, what is the real reason for your coming here? You could have just sent me a postcard, we weren't that close in college." Her directness catches me off guard for a moment, I have never seen her so vicious.
"Blue Blood would like to send you their sympathy, given the bonds of friendship. I thought you would appreciate it. I'm sorry if we miscalculated, Cliara. Your parents were very appreciative."
"Were they? Or did you want to know if I had snitched on Lori? By now, you know that I don't suffer from amnesia. I want my personal revenge on that bitch who did this to me," she spat. "Look at me, look at what I have become. No Alpha will want me. And if my fated mate sees me like this, he will definitely reject me. Who wants a Luna with one eye?"
Pain creeps into her voice, this is a traumatized victim speaking. She makes me think of Louise, who is just as grieved. Lori had done both women no good, just because she wanted to mark her territory.
"Did Lori do this? What reason did she have to do so? And why didn't you tell the detectives?" I asked her. She growls menacingly, her eyes turning red.
"I want to deal with this bitch personally. If she thinks she can get away with it, she should just wait and see. I have a surprise in store for her. When I'm done with her, Romero won't want her either. Then she can go on alone, just like me. Only, she will have to endure the pain of being without her cubs."
I look at her skeptically, this one obviously dreams too much.
"Do you know Lori's background? She has lived here in this pack, so you must know what she is capable of. And now that she is the Alpha's mate, do you really think you will be able to overpower her? You already failed the first time.”
I let out a scornful laugh, this one is not very smart. Does she really think I will allow her to harm my best friend? And even then she has to bypass Romero, just not to mention Alpha Thoseo. The Alpha family loves Lori, even more now that she has secured the next generation. Cliara is facing her death with her plan.
"You stand up for Lori? And you call yourself a Luna? Are you blind to her misdeeds? On the contrary, shouldn't you seek justice for me?" she bites at me.
"You don't want justice, Cliara. You want revenge, and those are opposites. In the first case, you should have informed the investigators and the process would have been started to hold Lori responsible. But now you make it a personal matter and that changes the rules".
She turns and storms out of my room, slamming the door behind her.
Slowly I sink back into the pillows, there's more drama to come, that's for sure. Cliara's intentions are clear. But I doubt she has any chance of succeeding in Eclipse Howl.
Time to confide in Zalev.
'Zalev, we are going to Eclipse Howl to talk to Lori. Cliara is out for her blood and I think she will strike on the day of Romero's birthday.'
'Sure, Meg. But let's keep it short. Alvarez is getting antsy. You're still unmarked and that fuels his jealousy. He keeps asking me if you are safe and orders me not to let you out of my sight.' We both burst out laughing. The possessive Alpha at best.
I open the mind link to my mate. He was relieved to hear from me. We chat for an hour about all sorts of things before sleep overtakes me. After promising to speak to him again the next day, I close the link and slip between the sheets. Tomorrow we have a long journey ahead of us. Fortunately, we are traveling in fast and comfortable cars.
The next day I got up early. After last night's conversation with Cliara, I don't feel much like being here. After doing my business in the bathroom, I go downstairs for breakfast.
To my surprise, Zane was already in the dining room.
"Luna, you're up early. I hope my sister didn't put you off last night. She has been acting very strangely since the accident. But it must have something to do with her amnesia," he excuses Cliara.
I nod and grab a plate for myself.
"No offense, Zane. It must be hard for her to live with no memory. I pray she recovers soon. Anyway, she has a great family to look after her". I play along for now.
After breakfast, Zalev and I say goodbye. I know more now than when I first arrived in Crescent Moon…
