We’ll Fight For Her

Future Alpha Romero's POV again

I won't lie, but when Lori told me that Era wouldn't say anything about a mate yet, I was partly relieved. If I wasn't her destined one, then no one else would be either.

My hopes were high when I saw her exit the Jet and I prayed to the Moon Goddess that she would pounce on me with her fangs barred. Of course, she wouldn't be able to mark me yet, but at least I'd know what to expect in a couple of weeks. I have been begging the beast inside me all day to tell me something about Era. It seems that Xan and Era are plotting something, which both annoys me and fills me with hope.

So I've come up with this plan to go on holiday, the two of us alone on an island until the eve of my anniversary. There is nothing heroic or gentlemanly about it, my intentions are purely selfish. I want to prevent a male from claiming my Lori before I get the chance, I want to keep her out of the public eye. Today is her twenty-first birthday, and now that I am no longer her confirmed mate, my place in her life is at stake. Danger lurks around every corner, in and out of the pack.

And Xan will not be able to mark her until we are of age, which is a few weeks away.

So here I am, with the love of my life in my arms, on a road trip to the Maldives. We'll drive as far as we can, then cross the ocean in a Jet to get us there. And from the look on Lori's face, she is really excited about this.

I hold her close and kiss her hair. She feels so good in my arms, I can't think of anyone else who could fit into them so easily. Moon Goddess, what should I do if someone claims her? As an Alpha, I am bound by the Were-laws. Challenging her mate is also an option, in my defense I can argue that my cubs need their mother.

What a mess!

In any case, I will keep her close to me until my anniversary. Then I will mark her and she will remain mine. Lori is the one and no one else.

And then I noticed that she had fallen asleep. I smile, she hasn't slept much after the party in Blue Blood, the tension of the last few hours and the pressure the pack and I have put on her have worn her down. But I will look after her, always.

With the sleeping Lori in my arms, I drive down the highway to Human Town until I reach the coast. With my Luna close to me for hours, I reach the airstrip of a friend who is also an Alpha. The man didn't want to know anything about the payment I'd offered for the use of his Jet. He is also following the relationship between Lori and me and is keeping his fingers crossed that we are destined in the end.

"Baby, we are already at the airstrip. You've been asleep for hours," I whisper into Lori's ear.

Her eyes blink before focusing on me. Those silver gazes from so close pierce my soul and the feeling is so intense and fascinating. It takes everything I have to keep my composure.

"Romero."

Her silky voice, the way she pronounces my name so intimately, moves even Xan, who immediately gets up and stares at her in love.

'Kiss her, man. Look how beautiful she is. She is ours, we will fight for her. I am totally ready.' And that is exactly what I did. My lips crashed against hers in a sizzling kiss. She gasps in surprise, an involuntary moan slipping from her lips, igniting a burning desire in me.

I help her to sit up without losing physical contact.

"Romero, are we still going somewhere?" she purrs. "Or can your car fly us to the Maldives?" Holy Goddess, this woman can make me forget everything around us. First, she hypnotizes me with her beautiful eyes, then she kisses me and my mind goes blank.

Huh, no, I was the one who started the kiss. But she seduced me with the husky tone in which she spoke my name. "You're so beautiful," I whisper, caressing her face.

"Romero, I understand. But the Jet is waiting. You have the rest of your life to look at me, but I doubt the pilot will want to wait that long". She squeezes my shoulder playfully and I reluctantly let her go.

We got out and walked hand in hand to the plane. As soon as we are on board and in our seats, the pilot comes over to get acquainted with us. Jake is his name.

"Alpha, Luna. I understand you are heading to the Maldives for a romantic getaway. I highly recommend the place, the food and service are great. You can really relax there," he enthuses. "The co-pilot is waiting for clearance from the tower to take off."

"Yes, today is my Luna's birthday. And I don't want to share her with anyone, some time alone together will certainly be good for us," I tell him. He smiles broadly.

"Well, happy birthday. I hope your day has been great so far, Luna Lori. I will also think of the Maldives when my mate's birthday comes around again. It seems like a good idea to surprise her".

Finally, he returns to the cockpit and a moment later we take off. As the seatbelt light goes off, I grab Lori and put her on my lap with her head on my shoulder. Silently, we look out of the hatch at the clear sea we are flying over.

"I have something for you, my love. Your birthday present." I had almost forgotten it in the back pocket of my jeans. I glided over and took the bag out. When I handed it to her, she looked up in surprise. She was probably expecting a flower or something small.

She opened it and there on the bed was a necklace with a Ruby.

"Romero, this is beautiful. My goodness, I have never received such a lovely gift. Thank you, babe".

I take the jewelry, open the clasp and carefully place it around her neck.

The ruby shines even more now that it is around her neck.

"Everything for my Luna. This necklace is only of great value when it is on your body. You are extraordinary, Lori. And I love you so much," I whisper before she settles back into my arms...
