Chapter 101 : "Kavanaughs"
H A R R Y
After we had dinner, I was still nervous. Even though I've talked to them and her father seemed nice to me, I am still nervous.
With her two brothers.
I know they're really worried about my relationship with Tate. I know they don't want me to be with her because of my fame and it will be a great hindrance between us. I know that but I won't let them ruin what I have with Tate. I've already done too much to save us.
And I know how families get so overprotective and they're just like Gemma. But they're the boy version of Gemma which is crazy. I know how Gemma gets so worried when I'm seeing someone new because she's worried that the past might happen again and I know how her brothers are also worried for her because she's a woman and that's just normal.
I sigh. I just wish they see that I am really serious with Tate.
"Hey..." I hear Tate's voice from behind me.
I stare at her over my shoulder and smiled. I feel her hands holding onto my shoulders while she massages me gently. She holds me tight and kisses my cheek. "You okay?" She asks.
I nod.
"Hmm..." She sighs. "I'm sorry about how my brothers were acting."
Tate spins around me and sat on top of my lap which made me worried that her brothers might see us together like this. She chuckles.
"They're with dad at the kitchen." She says.
I chuckle dryly.
She holds my cheeks. "You're worried about what they're gonna say?"
I shake my head. "I don't worry about what they're gonna say to me. I'm more worried that they might not like me for you."
"They like you." She answers.
I laugh dryly. "Do you even see the way your brothers looked at me? They don't like me."
"Oh shush. They do. They're just worried for me but I told them that they don't have anything to worry about me. I have you and I know you won't do anything to hurt me." She says.
"Of course. I will do everything to protect you. I just hope that they see that." I tell her.
She sighs heavily and rested her head against my head while her arms were hanging around my neck.
"I hope that you didn't regret upon coming here in Spain to meet my family. I wish that I didn't make you want to back out and leave me just because my brothers are acting up." I hear her say.
I push the escaping tendril of her hair behind her ear as I watch her look back at me. I don't know how I could ever describe how much I love her but every time I look into her eyes, I just fall in love with her over and over again. She smiles tightlipped and I could see through her eyes that she really is bothered about what happened at dinner too like how bothered I am about it but of course I try not to show it. I plant a kiss on her temple anyways while she twirls her fingers at the end of my hair. I try to rub my hand over the bottom of her spine.
"Tate, I've never regretted coming here." I say.
She slightly pouts. "You don't?"
"I don't. Of course I don't. I really wanted to meet your family. I wanted to see where you grew up and who you grew up with. I wanted to see where you went to school. I really wanted to meet your father and your two brothers even though I was scared of meeting them because you said they were hulk-like." I answer her.
She chuckles. "I can't believe you still remember that."
I laugh with her and sigh. "But seriously, what happened a while ago won't make me regret about coming here to be with you. I love you and even though your brothers kind of said things a while ago, I will still love you. And I will take those things in mind, that way it will make me become a way better boyfriend to you."
"You're already the best Harry." She kisses my cheek and pushes my hair behind my forehead.
I take her hand and shake my head. "No. I'm not. You're the best because you make me feel the best."
She smiles at me and kisses my forehead. "That's a lot of space to kiss." I tell her.
Tate laughs. "I love your forehead by the way."
I shake my head and just laughs.
"You're just making fun of my forehead." I quickly covered my forehead but she laughs at me and pulled it down.
"I wasn't making fun of your forehead. I do love this space on your face." She pulled her forefinger up and ran it over my hairline.
"Because it's wide." I answer her.
She laughs again. "Hey... You're the one who said it Harry. Not me."
I playful gaped. "You are really mocking my forehead right now."
Suddenly Tate kisses my forehead continuously, one after the other. "I do love this forehead."
Then she runs her fingers over my forehead while giggling. "You won't be Harry without this forehead." She adds.
As Tate continues to make fun of my forehead, from the corner of my eyes I see a piano. An old looking piano which almost wasn't that visible.
"Who plays?" I ask I pointed out.
She glares at it and smiles. "My dad."
"Your dad plays?"
Tate nods. "When I was little he'd used to play me tons of songs just to calm me down after two of my annoying brothers would make fun of me. My crying would stop then. But I never got his gift of playing it. Julio did inherited that."
"Can I interrupt you two?"
I hurriedly turned my head around only to find Tate's father standing behind us. She stood up right away and stiffened. I think both of us stood up quickly when we heard that voice. Tate fixed herself while she glares at me then stares back at her father looking intently at me.
"We were just... Talking." Tate explains.
I nervously wet my now dry lips with my tongue as I stare at my feet. Gosh I've never been this nervous. Aside from the fact that I've met Kendall's mom and Taylor had introduced me to her family but it was as nervous as this. It didn't feel as nerve-wracking as this. I guess when you're aware of you're bad ways that you've had before and you're already being serious with this one woman, it makes me feel very tensed. Moreover that she has two huge brothers who's way taller than me and her father who looks at me calmly but has a deep voice. Really makes everything tonight more distressful.
"Yeah I knew you two were just talking. You being on top of his lap." He answers.
I clear my throat as I awkwardly glare at her.
"Dad come on." Tate speaks.
He begins to walk towards us with his hands inside his pockets. I started straightening my body as he gets closer. For a second I thought that I could stand straight and that my feet were equally the same length. His eyes felt like burning fire but I try to be as cool as ice. But shit who am I kidding right now! I am fuckingly shaking. I quickly hide my shaky hands behind me so he won't see how nervous I am for getting caught with her daughter sitting on top of my lap.
"Do you drink tea?" He asks me.
I nod. "I've always been a huge fan of teas."
He nods back. "Could you make us some tea Tate?"
Tate glares at me and answers, "Yeah. Sure."
I watch her as she walks back to the kitchen but before she could finally disappear from my eyesight, she smiles and blows me a flying kiss. I smile at her and watched her walk her way to the kitchen leaving me all alone with her father.
"Harry." He calls out.
I travelled my head back to him. "Yes sir?"
"If you get offended by my two sons, I apologize for what they said a while ago." He says.
I shake my head vigorously. "I totally understand why they were like that sir. They're her elder brothers and they have all the right to be concerned, worried and overprotective of her."
He just answers me with a nod.
"I know siblings are always like that. I've done that to my sister's suitors before." I add.
His brows raises. "You have a sister?"
I nod. "She's older than me though but even though I'm her little brother I still have to be overprotective of her. I was worst though, I'd say awful things so my sister's suitor would leave."
Tate's father chuckles. "Tate would do that before to Julio and Luis' women."
I grin. "Really? I didn't know that."
"Oh Tate was the boyish type when she was a kid. I even thought she'd turn out lesbian. " He says it with a smile. "She would always fight with her brothers but she's always the one who ends up crying. The three of them always fought to the point that my head would hurt."
He sighs. "It was hard raising three kids being a single parent. But I knew Julio and Luis loved her. They really love Tate even though she was kind of hard headed. She was the only girl in the family when their mother died. They knew she looked exactly like their mother that's why she's so important to them. She means a lot to her brothers Harry that's why they were being like that to you a while ago. I hope you understand that."
I smile at him. "I do sir."
"They fought a lot of times when they were kids that's why it was hard to tame her down when she would be crying." He says.
My eyes glued at the piano. "Tate mentioned that the only way to tame her down was you playing the piano." I answer him.
He smiles while he was looking at the piano now. "I composed the song when their mom was always diagnosed at the hospital. It was just a simple piano piece for her. For them."
I stared back at Tate's dad. "I feel really bad for what happened sir. It is not easy to lose someone we love. I'm very sorry for your loss."
He grabs my shoulder and laughs humorlessly as he smiles at me. "You don't have to be sorry Harry. Well, you wanna hear the song and tell me your professional idea about it?"
I chuckle. "I would love to hear it sir."
The two of us walked together to the piano. He sits on the piano chair as he opens it. He grabs an old looking piece of paper from the corner with the notes of the song he'll be going to play.
"It's an honor to hear you play sir." I say, thrilled to be hearing him play.
He smiles. "Go gentle on me."
I smile. "I'm sure you're great sir."
Tate's father begins to play the jolly song. I watched his hands as it perfectly hits the right keys. I gotta admit, the piano piece that he made surely was catchy and I instantly loved it. It was just a mere piano piece with the title Better Place. Then as I listen longer to the song, it made me realize that I could make lyrics for this piece.
When the song came to a stop, I couldn't help but clap for him. It was a very great piece that he actually made for his wife and for his kids and he was really a fantastic pianist. I have never met a man like Tate's dad and it's amazing.
"That was just beautiful sir." I say.
He smiles. "Harry... I just haven't gotten the fact that my little girl has already grown up and got herself boyfriend. And it has to be a guy like you." He begins to say seriously.
I take a deep breath in and exhaled as soon as he pulled his head up but still staring at the piano that was before him.
"No bad intentions about you but you know... You're famous and Tate's just... Tate." He adds.
His eyes travels up to my face and looks intently back at me. "But I saw how kind-hearted you are the second you stepped inside my house and watch you take each of our hands as a sign of honor and respect. Not all men are like that Harry. I haven't seen that kind of man for so long. And that's when I knew Tate got herself a kind and loving boyfriend."
I chuckle and smiled at myself as I bent my head down. I have never been this happy in my entire life but those words coming from the woman I love's father truly brings joy.
"I just hope you will love her like how Julio, Luis and I love her. She maybe older now and maybe wise enough to make her own decisions in life but she's still our little girl. I won't go in between of my daughter's happiness if she wants to spend her happiness with you." He adds.
I just kept on smiling and felt happy tears building behind my eyelids. "I really am in love with Tate sir. I've only been serious with her like I said a while ago and I am so happy to hear those words coming from you."
He smiles at me and pats my back. "I am happy she met you."
"Don't hurt her." He adds and extended his hand to me.
I smile and quickly shove my hand to his to accept it. "I will never hurt Tate."
My eyes travelled to Tate as she stands by the threshold holding a tray of two cups and a teacup. She smiles at me and I know he heard everything that her father said to me.
"I love you." She mouths.
